I needed service on my washer and dryer. I did not purchase either, and had no info about them other than that they needed service! I was quickly brushed off by Slegar Appliance. Foster Maytag, on the other hand, walked me through collecting all of the information they needed.

I would rate this business as being not particularly honest when it comes to what product will be delivered. When someone buys a product, generally it is believed that it is right from the factory and newly unpacked and not a floor model unless disclosed in the closing of a sale. When buying a product from this business one should have full knowledge the product they are purchasing as it is only fair to the customer such as being brand new or a floor model. A floor model appliance can be delivered if a customers order was not delivered to the shop and to meet the delivery, a floor model would be taken out! This is not fair if the customer has no knowledge of it and THIS has happened before. When a customer orders a new appliance, it should be just that.

Over the years, I have purchased all my appliances from Foster, so when I lost my Maytag stacked washer/dryer in the flood this past summer, I went to Foster's for a replacement. Toby asked me how many people I did laundry for (just myself) and then completely ignored my answer and tried to sell me a super high capacity front-loading washer sitting beneath a high capacity dryer. When I asked about a top loading washer, he did acknowledge that Maytag sold such a stacked unit, but he didn't carry them in stock. He got me a price quote, but throughout the process made me feel like a complete idiot for not purchasing a super high capacity unit, even when I told him most of my loads are small to medium loads. Ugh. I went to Sears where they were quite happy to sell me a top loading washer/dryer stacked unit.

I would not recommend this store to anyone in the market for a new appliance. I bought a new maytag washer/dryer set in Jan 06. I was told he had the same product in his house with no problems. When I experienced my first problem, I called the store and was told to call Maytag. I did nothing was done. So a few months later I called Maytag again, supposedly nothing wrong for the second time. So I called the store and was asked why I didn't call them first?
I have now been fighting with Toby about a product that doesn't have a warranty. (which it still does) bottom line; I wouldn't recommend the products and the serivce is awful.

We moved to Iowa City in May of '06 with a 6 week old baby and cloth diapering, so a good clothes washer was a must. We had bought one online and had it shipped to Iowa City in an effort to save $$- BIG MISTAKE. It was damaged in shipping and when we plugged it in the first time it dumped 2 gallons of water over our floor.
The next day, I went to Foster Maytag and talked to Toby- I wanted a USA made washer, preferably a frontloader- He was straightforward about the problems Maytag Neptunes had in early models and explained and demonstrated how they were fixed in new units. I bought one on the spot. Toby's guys delivered it and set it up 3 hours later, taking my "internet special" with them to the junkyard.
I've been very happy with Foster's service and Toby's product knowledge, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a major appliance. They exemplify the advantages of "hometown ownership".
Buy Local, Buy American
The job you save might be your own

PROS: Locally owned, nice folks, excellent service, Maytag quality
CONS: None I've found so far.

When I first was in the market for my Neptune washer and dryer, Foster was suggested. Feeling confident that they were in fact a certified Maytag business, my husband and I proceeded to purchase our appliances there.

THEN my washer began to show signs of some sort of problem with freshness. We contacted Foster who came out twice...no change. When I called them again I got the old "phone tag" routine and I finally gave up and resigned myself to less than fresh smelling towels. Just this past spring I discovered that Maytag DID have problems with my model wsher and after contacting the main office I was sent a technician, and a new part. The part was replaced at no charge and I was back in business again.

The main problem I had with Fosters is I don't think they stood by their products wel enough to help us find out the source of the problem and solve it. It seemed they weren't interested in service but rather in sales.

Sohould I need another Maytag appliance I don't think I will be purchasing from Fosters....after all if I am going to spend as much as I did (and will in the future) then I think I should be treated better than I had been.

Of course...as always...this is one woman's opinion...take it or ignore it as you will!

PROS: ...Maytag appliances
CONS: ...less than stellar customer service
