The River City Beefstro Bar & Grille is probably the second worst restaurant at which I've ever eaten. I'll preface this was a Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm. There were a total of FIVE (5) guests in the restaurant at the time I ordered.

I ordered the half-rack chipotle babyback ribs with a baked potato and seasonal vegetables (a substitution), along with three drinks that evening.

When my food arrived I could tell my potato had been over-baked but was tolerable. The ribs, however, were tough, chewy and room temperature. When my server asked how my meal was I replied: "The ribs are tough, chewy, not tender and room temperature." His response: "Oh that's unusual, they are usually quite good". Really? Prove that to me, don't make me wish for that.

I'm in the restaurant biz in New York City and California - where, lets be honest, customer service is usually the first thing that's overlooked in restaurants. Not only did this gentleman not offer a replacement or suggest a new item, he just walked away. I ended up eating my over-baked potato and my seasonal vegetables and left all but two ribs on my plate. He picked it up and gave me my check - full charge on everything. No "sorry about the ribs", no "I'll pick up your drinks" or "I've taken off the ribs from your bill". No I got charged for everything, including a surcharge for my over-baked potato and seasonal vegetables.

Now, I probably should have spoken up, told him that I wanted a new entree - but part of me resisted because I should not have to speak up. Going out to eat is supposed to be a pleasurable experience. The drinks, the exploration of the senses with all the different tastes and textures. My server should enhance that experience, not make me ask for those things.

Further for $19.99 in Iowa, a half rack of ribs and two mediocre sides is on the relative high-side. Had I been someone who maybe was splurging on this meal, I'd have been sick to my stomach; I was thankfully only nauseated.

This person is thinking of Iowa River Power Restaurant, which overlooks the Iowa River. The River City Beefstro has a view of a hotel parking lot and a cemetary, And the food is nothing to write home about. The service is slow and disorganized and the food is sub-par at best. Add in a manager with a napolean complex and a a terrible attitude towards guest service and you've got the RCB. I wouldn't recommend eating there unless you have no other options

This place is a little more expensive but it's worth it. Take someone here you are trying to impress. The food is great. I had an excellent halibut with a lemon dill sauce and the view out on the river is magnificent. Make a reservation for a window seat.
