For those who want a great gym with very good equipment then this is where you want to be. I have belonged since the beginning and have never had a bad experience. Granted, I come in and do my own thing and don't need much except a clean facility and variety of cardio, weight machines and weights. What many don't realize is that a Health Club is a business and must be run to make a profit. Not all decisions will be popular with all members.I used to work at the MAC and they also have a decent club. I just don't care for the owner's business philosophy. For my money the Aspen is great!

I have been going to Aspen since May of this year. I mainly use the pool, hot tub, and sauna. I can say that the staff at Aspen does keep this area very clean. The hot tub was not as hot as normal on my way out I spoke to the staff at the desk and they explained to me that they did service the hot tub and it would take about 3 days for the tempreture to get back to normal. Sure enough 3 days later the hot tub was hot again.

Message Boards/Review boards are interesting to say the least. I am the General Manager of Aspen, and have been employed there for 6 years. Feel free to contact me anytime with concerns, feedback, or general questions.

I realize we cannot be 'everything' to 'everybody', but we constantly look to improve. Our number one focus is getting results for our members. We ask the tough questions that other clubs may not ask, and hold people accountable to getting fit. At the end of the day the bi-product of great service is having someone join the club, not the other way around.

We do have a fun and more relaxed work environment than most businesses and that will never change. I challenge anyone truly interested in making healthy lifestyle changes to contact us. Are we perfect, no, are we human, yes, can we constantly improve our craft and the service that comes with it, Absolutely!!

Don't write off all the staff as rude and snotty. Sadly however most of them are and they need to be retrained in the basics of customer service Most of the management is difficult to deal with and the front desk staff get little support. I know from personal experience. You will have to keep recontacting or leaving messages for the manager because she won't take calls usually and will rarely call you back. The trainers are friendly and will help if you ask, however they will not offer assistance unless asked because usually they are working with clients. There are issues with the pool, spa, and saunas which the operations manager is rather apathetic about it and usually is slow to fix. It is very frustrating because the gym could be a very good place but the new owners have shown do inclination to change the workings of the place. The management needs to be re-energized by new people who actually care. The membership counselors often come in when ever they feel like it leaving it hard to get in contact with them or even get new members signed up. Most of them of the sales counselors are unprofessional by working out or playing basketball when they are suppose to be working and even skipping scheduled appointments. On top of that, they usually don't explain the membership agreements properly and leave the front desk staff to sort it out and just take the commission. Be careful when dealing with them (like you should when signing any contract) know the difference between a term, prepaid and single contract before you sign.

This has to be the worst gym in town. The facility is not clean, I know of at least 3 people (including 1 staff member) who have gotten jock itch or ring worm from the place. The customer service is horrid, no one including the management gives a hoot about your concerns. Since we don't know who the owner's are there is no one to raise concerns with to get anything fixed. Most of the things take at least a month to get fixed. It took them almost 2 years to fix the steam room once.

I'm in my mid-40's, with kids and a career. The gym offers a lot of different classes at all times during the day/evening. I take the class when I want and am not tied to just one class at a specific time. Overall, the facility is clean - someone is always cleaning the equipment or bathroom. I have found the staff to be very helpful if you ask for help - they don't walk around and offer free advice to someone who doesn't want it. The only downside...no free towels, hairdryers or some basic personal hygiene items. But, then again, I knew that going into it and the monthly cost is priced accordingly.

This Gym is very snoody. They acted like they couldn't be bothered helping me who was a first time gym member. They only think about there money and who cares about the people. I was hurt that I cancled my membership and asked for a refund which they refused

This is by far the best gym in Iowa, the MAC is okay but this place is much better, they have a wide selection of hammer strength machines and free weights, not to mention an entire floor devoted to cardio, they have some excellent boxing classes also which I regularly attend, They have a pool, hot tub, steam room, sauna, and tanning booths. All the equipment is top of the line and brand new. The staff there is also extremely helpful and the front desk girls are pretty cute, check this place out you wont be disappointed. On a another note some people dont like the prices of gyms around, some gym memberships on the west coast can be upwards of 200 hundred dollars, so 30 bucks a month is a pretty good deal!

PROS: Everything!

I joined aspen athletic club about 2 years ago. I was a bit hesitant since I wasn't a real fitness buff. The staff is friendly and the kids club is great. All of the fitness instructors are wonderful and the other club members have became great friends as well. The price is very reasonable compared to other area clubs but they seem to have much newer equipment that others and also maintain things better than others/
