Great spicy food and great services from the Chinese waitresses. Some food are a little too sweet to me. I would recommend shred pork and any other meat dishes, Thai Lo Mein, and Beef Chow Fun (the thick noodle, not the rice).

When the above mentioned the old lady waitress, I know exactly who are you talking about. I chatted with her sometime ago. She is Korean and is not the owner. I heard that the new owner is a PHD student from University of Iowa. But that lady is kinda weird. She is a waitress who suppose to serve you, but she's got attitudes! She always seems unhappy and arrogant. I don't know why they hired her.

After moving to Coralville from nearby Kalona, I decided to take it upon myself to sample many of the local restaurants. One of the places I tried was Szechwan Village upon seeing a $5 lunch special advertised.

On my first visit, an (if not overly) enthusiastic twenty-something waiter served me but provided good service. The lunch special included an entree, choice of fried appetizer, rice, and soup. The hot and sour soup was full of flavor and had plenty of egg noodles in it. The entree size was plentiful and the general chicken had the right amount of heat, while not being overpowering. I made a mental note to return.

However, on two subsequent visits, the service has been less than satisfactory. An older Asian woman (I think she's the owner) has served me and doesn't seem to welcome my presence.

The decor also leaves something to be desired, it appears this was formerly an office or home of some type, as the two-level setting doesn't appear natural for a restaurant.

With many Asian cuisine options available, Szechwan Village is on the back burner.

Szechwan is one of my favorite places to have lunch with my husband when the kids are in school. Not only is it very quiet and private, the food is wonderful and the staff very friendly!

I have a weakness for dishes with cashews as well as won tons, and here I can find my favorites with ease and they are out and on the table in no time!

The prices are very reasonable and the portions large so it isn't rare to have "people bags" of extra food to enjoy when those late night munchies hit!

Located on 10th Avenue, Szechwan is easy to find and has ample parking...another plus, they have take out which is great for those nights when yo don't especially want to cook but don't want fast food either!

Give them a try....great food and great service...what more can you ask for!?!

PROS: ....great food....wonderful service
CONS: ...none
