Our daughter has been dancing at Cherie's for several years and our son tried a year as well. The teaching staff are very caring and push the children to do their best and the recitals are beautiful. Response to any questions or concerns that we have had has been prompt. Our daughter is looking forward to going back for another great year.

I danced at this studio since middle school. I originally liked it but when I got older, even though I was good enough to make my high school (Linn-Mar) Varsity Pom squad, a squad who consistantly places first at state and does the best at Nationals as far as Iowa schools go. I was not allowed to join the elite classes. While girls who did not make the team were asked to move up to elite classes. Cherrie always put me down and made me feel like an awful dancer in high school. Honestly, National Dance Academy is much more friendlier and will move up dancers so they are learning and in classes that will challenge them and teach them. I took classes there my senior year and preferred it. Cherries is cliquie and expensive, she will create good dancers but you have to take all her classes (which cost more money) and you have to be one of her favorites. Look into other studios that are more flexible.

I moved here from Des Moines when I was in 8th grade, after dancing since I was 4 I looked for a place to continue me education here... I was pointed to Cheries and lasted a year. I was use to getting lots of information from the owner, and the owner actually teaching the classes. I was so disappointed in the instruction from the girls barely older than me and so many things were done differently and not as hard technically from my instruction in Des Moines. When I was having a hard time adjusting how I had done things all my life so far I felt like I was given a hard time and was told to do better. Now my daughter is turning 3 and I am looking for a place to go and will not be going back to Cheries.

Business Response:

owner I am sorry you were disappointed with your time at Cheries. However, I must mention, our instructors are not young students and are very qualified. As a studio owner with a very large enrollment (running 4 studios at one time), I am unable to teach all of the classes. It is my preference to oversee instruction and write notes and dances for many of the classes. However, my closed circuit television connection allows me to view all of the studios, when I am in the office and not in the actual class room. As the only member of Dance Masters of America, in Cedar Rapids, I beg to differ on your comment about our instruction not being technically hard enough. We teach many styles of dance at our studio and encourage students to learn, not give them a hard time. When mistakes are made by a student, we explain what is wrong so a student may learn how to do the step correctly. Yes this means do it better, but we never use that phrase.

My daughter is dancing at Cherie??s this year after spending 3 years at another studio. She is learning so much more and the teachers really care about the kids. The dances are challenging and she has progressed more in a few months than the last 3 years. Her recital costumes last year were just plain and had nothing to do with the dances or the music. We always paid for the costumes without seeing them, so you got what you got. At Cherie??s we saw the pictures ahead of time. Yes, the costumes cost a little more but they are much nicer and they follow the theme of the dance which makes the whole recital unique instead of a one boring dance and costume after another.

Cherie's is the BEST!! I danced at Cherie's Dance Studio for 13 years. It felt like a second home for me. Cherie and the staff became like family and I still stop into the studio from time to time to say "hello" and I also attend the recitals each spring. They are the most beautiful recitals in the area! As far as technique, Cherie's students are known for it! In fact our technique and stage presence is one of the reason we do so well at competitions. Along with learning how be an accomplished dancer, I also learned how to follow directions, work as a team, gained loads of self-esteem and confidence, and made many life-long friends. I wouldn't trade in my experience at Cherie's for the world!! I know your dancer will LOVE it too!

We moved to Cedar Rapids a few years ago and with not being familiar with the area, I had to depend on other people's suggestions for good places to eat, shop, etc. When my seven year old daughter asked me let her take dance lessons, one of my co-workers suggested Cherie's. Her daughter danced there since she was twelve years old right up to her high school graduation. I am very happy that I took her advice! My daughter is now on her third year of dance and I cannot say enough great things about Cherie's. We felt right at home from the beginning and my daughter's teachers have been great role models for her. The recitals are absolutely beautiful. If you child wants to dance, enroll them at Cherie's Dance Studio, you'll be happy you did!

My child dances at Cherie's Dance Studio. She loves it! She learns a lot and has fun too. Every week after dance she comes home, dances around the house and sings me her songs. She can't wait to go back.

My daughter has been attending this year only, and I am very unhappy with this studio. The costumes cost twice as much as other studios. The owner sends home letters to parents that are very negative, like she assumes we are going to try to break the rules. Plus, she doesn't give all the info or there are errors in the information. I have remained perpetually angry and frustrated, and I have been told by other parents that other studios have a much more organized and respectful way of doing things. There are many quality studios in town that have a much more respectful way of doing business.

Cherie's has been long known for producing lots of little dancers in this town, but I have to wonder how good they are technically? They flash around their trophies, I find that to be a turn off. I also don't like the way they mark up their costumes and seem out to get your money at every turn. There are much more family friendly places to take your kids to learn to dance!

I have taken my daughter to Cheries Dance in the past. We have loved it. My daughter thought it was really fun. The staff worked well with my small child. I thought the end recital was absolutely wonderful! It was so cute! It seemed very well organized and all the costumes the children wore were adorable. I highly recommend this place.
