Mercy Fitness Center has some subtle things going for it that set it apart from other health clubs and fitness centers.

Each staff member holds a four-year degree in a health-related field so you know you're getting good information, not just what someone has learned in his years as a gym junkie.

Because the Fitness Center is operated by Mercy Hospital it includes cardiac, pulmonary, and other outpatient rehab. You wouldn't think this would have any impact on the Fitness Center, but in reality it gives them significant expertise in areas that other gyms don't have. So if you have a question about a cardiac issue, there are people there who are specially trained to deal with it.

The facilities are clean and there are numerous cardio and weight training machines available. While it can be busy on MWF mornings, there are other times when it's easy to get in and get to all the equipment you need.

A variety of classes are offered at an extra fee.

The members range from teens to senior citizens, due to the presense of Acceleration Training for atheletes and rehab for the older crowd. Most of the members are middle-aged. Regardless of who you are, it's unlikely you'll be either the most fit or least fit person working out any time you visit.

The staff is friendly and helpful. Lockerrooms are clean and there is sufficient shower and locker space. We've been members for two years and have gotten a lot from our memebership.

PROS: Lots of equipment, clean, friendly
CONS:
