The hostess said they do not have patty sausage and have not had patty sausage in months, when I was there the week prior and ordered it. She then called us liars.

i started working at IHOP about a year ago and when I started it was my first job that i'd had. I started when i was seventeen and i must admit the restaurant was in poor shape when i started working there. Management was sloppy and so were the servers, but in the past nine months or so, everything has improved so much, it was difficult at first but the customers are leaving happier and coming in with a warm welcome waiting them. i also admit that i didnt take the job as seriously as i should have when i first started, and i was terrible, i couldn't remember to take syrup out or even what table needed what, but i've realized how much i love my job, and there has been a great change in staff too. we recently had a table come in that hadn't been to the cedar rapids IHOP in years because of poor service but after their last visit they said they would definitely be coming back, so make sure to try it again if you haven't in a while.

My family tried twice to eat at the Cedar Rapids IHOP (Iowa), but the hostess and servers seemed to disappear while we waited 1) to be seated, and then 2) to give our food orders to a server. In the first instance, we waited an hour before we finally chose to leave--this was when we could visibly see the restaurant was nearly empty with only 3 other tables with people seated waiting for a server, with no food and no service at those tables. In the second instance, we got seated within 30 minutes (again, when the place was nearly empty--the place is large with dozens of tables, but only 4 or 5 tables had people of about 3 or 4 persons at each). However, our family of 4 sat waiting, waiting, waiting for a server for almost an hour--no water, no coffee, nothing while we waited. We wondered if all the employees had left! After investing 90 minutes like this--waiting--we got up and left. We'll never again visit the IHOP in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. And now we suspect we know why this IHOP was nearly empty the two times we visited, on a typically busy Sunday-after-church time slot, as it was nearly dead both times--this is obviously due to lack of customer care and service. It's too bad, because CR locals are *big* on eating out, and IHOP *could* make good money in this location if run well. But we've never seen a business run as poorly as this one as far as acknowledging and serving customers, the lifeblood of the food industry.

I recently dined at the CR IHOP, this last Sunday. I came in about 9pm and was seated in the smoking section. The place was pretty slow with about 4 other tables of 3 or less. My server was a trainee, not a problem with me. My previous profession was as a GM of a similar type of family restaurant. So I was prepared to be patient and forgiving for any mistakes the server made. But I was not prepared for the actions of his Manager Cheryl. Cheryl was the staff member training the server. She came to me soon after seating and informed me that my server was on his third day and apologized for his future mistakes. I informed her it was OK, I had trained servers too and knew the industry myself. Her face went blank and she looked me in the face and said "Well, I try to run a more professional restaurant then you may have." and walked away. I was shocked, I tried to repeat the words in my head, thinking I had heard them wrong or she had not meant what I had heard. I decided to leave it be and just have my meal. But what had happened to me was nothing to what I had witnessed about 10 minutes later that evening. A family of three came in and were sat down a couple tables from me. Two men and a woman, the two men seemed to have hearing aids. The Older man's, presumably the Father, hearing aids were quite visible. Well the Manager did the same "Apologize for the the new server" speech and left. She did not return to check on their or mine table of almost 20 minutes, not a major service issue, but definitely a sign of improper service training or inhospitable behavior. But also the reason that a small issue quickly became one of the worst examples of Rude, Insulting, and absolutely inexcusable behaviour for any Manager or Hospitality employee. You see, mine, and that other tables drinks were all empty, had been empty for nearly 10 minutes. Neither of our tables had received water when seated, i was about to get up and wave over the server or Cheryl when either walk by. But the older man from the other table beat me to it, and walked over to the beverage station and asked for some more milk. Now because the man was deaf, I could hear his asking for the free refills at their tables. The manager proceeded to berate the man loudly. "Where does she think she's at no place gives free refills of Chocolate Milk, she will have to pay for it." The man went back to his table and spoke to his wife. Their food and mine, finally came after close to 40 minutes for me. Now the next part I will admit, I was busy eating and getting ready to leave, so i missed what caused this next out burst from the Manager. But nothing a customer could do, should have caused the manager say and act as she did.She started telling the older man he was being rude and need not ever return to this place. He looked at her and pointed at his wife's plate, where from my seat at two table away, could see here pancakes were burnt, I mean black charcoal burnt. The manager stormed away. A few minutes later she came back to their table and gave them their check. she announced that she had gave them 20% off for all their problems and then instead of leaving. She turned tot eh woman and said "Now about the Chocolate milk. i have been here for over 5 years and we have never serviced free refills on Chocolate Milk. In fact I have never heard of a place in this city that does that. The husband was quite upset and put the money on the table. The manager took the money and came back with the change. She proceeded to count back the money one coin at a time loudly to the older man while staring in his eyes. "1 cent, 2 cents, 12 cent, 17 cents, etc..." When she had finished, she got behind the man and spoke loud enough for me to hear and their table, but not he older man, because he did not react to her words until the younger man told him.
She actually said " you two can come back, you have not caused any problems (pointed to the younger man and woman) but not him, he is not welcomed here."I am insulted for just having to witness her actions and am quite outraged. I would never had had any manager beneath me act in such a way to any customers, but to also do it in front of other customers, shows absolute grounds for termination in any place I have served or managed. I fully intend to contact her GM, Regional Manager, and owners. On top of that I will contact my family, friends and contacts in the CR and IC food industry about this display to ensure she does not work in any restaurant I know of. I will also be telling my family and friends in Quaker Oats and General Mills not to ever stop at IHOP for quite awhile.
