Please do NOT rent from these people. They are willing to do absolutely anything to keep your deposit. When we moved out, the apartment was clean and in good shape, and we were confident that we would get most of our deposit back (minus the usual carpet cleaning and such). Imagine our surprise when, after more than 60 days of no contact (Iowa law requires 30 days for them to get your deposit back to you) they emailed us a BILL. They had charged us a ridiculous amount for cleaning (more than 17 hours!), with no explanation. I emailed the manager (Rochelle) asking for pictures of the alleged damage and disputing the charges. Her reply? She had seen the apartment herself and "it looked like you just moved out without cleaning", followed by saying that I should have been there during the move out inspection if I wanted to dispute the charges. Um, we had moved out of state and she acknowledged that in her extremely rude and dismissive email. Trust me, I would love to be able to bi-locate. We spent three days cleaning and making sure the apartment was in good shape. They have nobody watching over them to make sure they don't screw people. They knew we would not be able to be present for the inspection and saw fit to charge us obscenely. I reported them to the BBB and every other watchdog group I could find. Ames is a wonderful town and does not need companies like PPM ripping off college students. I am disabled and my boyfriend is a veteran. They had no problem stealing from us and they will steal from you too. I hope the money they took from us was worth the price of their soul.

This is the worst place to rent specially if you have kids. The management has no consideration of your comfort. They do not know the lease terms and dont explain them properly to you and later on since you signed bunch of papers with the test so small to read, they force those terms at you with no room for any flexibility. I agree with the other review by ppm_s. The similar situation happened with me except it was when we were leaving. They did not explain that we have to move out 1 day before the date on the lease (first of all, why the F*** they write the date and then ask you to move 1 day before that date on lease, why can not they write the date when you have to leave the property premises) and then forced us out. We have a kid and my kid was all crying and my wife pulled her muscle (she was alone and I was out). Management lady name Rochelle was stading there and did not give any flexibility and forced my wife and kid out. Later on they charged for a broken bathroom rod which we did not recognize. After several calls and big arguments they realized that it was already broken when we moved in and it was listed out in the previous tenant's move out report. They also charge unbelievable high hours for cleaning (9 hours). We almost cleaned everything except kitchen. It is Bu******* that it takes 9 hours to clean mostly kitchen for that kind of rental place then.

I've been lived here for almost one year. Every experience with PPM is TERRIBLE! From the day we moved in, the nightmare began. The officers seem nice before you sign the lease, but after that, they are rude and never respect us, their customers. I still remember just before I signed the lease, the lady told me with a big smile that we could move in right after 12:00pm on July 31st----our previous lease ended at 12:00pm on that day. But, guess what? When I stopped by their office to pick up the key, they told me"No, you can not move in until 12:00pm the next day! It is on your lease". Bullsh***t! I blamed myself because I did not read the lease word by word, but the old lady lied to me first!Otherwise I would not sign it! We already moved everything outside the apartment and had nowhere to stay. Even I said I would pay the rent for an extra day, they still did not let me move in even the apartment had been vacant for a couple of days! I tried to argue with them, but a bouch of people rushed out of the office and shouted at me. I was really really scared by them. I never saw such rude people in my life. SO, we had to stay in the car overnight on that day. Maintenance? Your request seems to be forever~ Parking? I never saw such a narrow parking space. Even my compact car can barely fit into it. Noise? Oh yes, you can always hear noise from the mobile houses nearby. Since I'm moving before my lease ends, I wanna sublet my apartment. They will charge me $175 for subleasing even I find the assignee by myself. Of course, they will hold my whole deposit until my lease "officially ends with them" And what is more rediculous is, even if I move out and somebody takes my lease, they will still put my name on the electricity bill. One more thing, YOU will never expect your deposit to be refunded. Stay away from PPM, the POOR PLACE TO MOVE.

We lived in PPM apartments for several years and were very happy both with the quality of the apartments and the friendliness of the staff. They were more than willing to take us out to countless apartments until we found the one that was just right for us. They were always available if we had questions and were always very polite and helpful.
