Warning ?? Please read before Going to CareerNet. I believe like many others who have posted that CareerNet Inc. in West Des Moines Iowa is a scam. Here is why:
First, when interviewed, Brett focused on my personality and not my resume. This is a problem as most recruiters will want to know more about your work history in order to find out if you truly have the experience that you say you do. CareerNet, if legit, is a screener, weeding out bad applicants before their client (which is the employer). I was never asked about my experience.
Second, once a recruiter is involved, there is relatively no need to resubmit a cover letter. If the recruiter likes you, then he/she in essence, is your cover letter. Your foot is in the door at that point. Asking you to pay for a professionally developed letter at $50 is suspicious, and this is what Brett did.
Third, once a recruiter agrees to submit / talk to their client then there is really no reason for them not to tell you who the hiring company is. You are under obligation at that point. i.e. Brett asks you if it is ok to submit your materials. You say ??yes? ?? you are agreeing to the use of this agent. Most search firms will then describe the business, give you the name and so on. It would not be in your best interest to contact the employer by yourself after this, because it would be unsolicited (the employer hired the recruiter) and would be damaging to your credibility. Legit search firms know this, but Brett refused to tell me the name anyway.
Read the postings, look for consistencies in reader review postings, and if you still go, use your head when getting the sales pitch. CareerNet knows you are vulnerable when looking for a job!

I wanted to post another review since my last one, explaining my new job. Within the week of my interview I was called back and was offered the job that I had applied for. I actually start tomorrow :D
I was very impressed with Career Net and their ability to work with me to find this job and talk with me about my experience. I am very thankful for this opportunity I had and excited to start my new job!
Please, Please, Please don't let the negative reviews stop you from going in for an interview....If I wouldn't have gone in, I would not have a job right now.
Thank you Brett!

Pros: good experience, quick turn around, very legit

Cons: not knowing the company I was applying for

.

I really had a good experience. I interviewed with Brett, though he was personable and honest, and got a job out of it. Never once did he mention anything about my resume and cover letter, however, he did say they offer an interviewing class. I decided to take it and thought it was valuable.

I suggested to one of my friends that they check Career Net out, and she is one of 3 finalist at a decent job. We'll see if she ends up getting it or not.

This place is legit.
