I am normally a fan of the standard music catelogs in order to save a buck, but guess what, I have found that OBG's prices are right in line with the competition. What I like is that the staff is friendly and approachable and they don't badger you when you are contemplating a purchase. I also like the local personalized feel their store gives if I do have a need to ask questions pertaining to a more advanced level of electronics and guitar craftmanship. As a pro-musician, it is sometimes a little frustrating to get help from a minimum-wage wanna-be rock star who thinks they know it all because they can play one sweep-arpeggio pattern they learned off a Protest the Hero CD, and then feel that gives them the right to blow off any over-aged musician (18 an older) who can't flip their hair out of their eyes, but actually have real jobs to pay for merchandise. So, you will never find this kind of treatment at OBG. I read the previous review where the customer was upset that they just didn't hand over the instrument to play, well guess what, I am personally thankful that they show that kind of care with their instruments since I really don't want to buy excessively played "used gear." So my 2 cents... Thank you OBG for taking the time to care about your products and the customers who buy them.

I totally disagree with the other reviewer.

Old Boise Guitar is very inviting and staff are always willing to help or just let you hang out and play. They know there stuff but the atmosphere is relaxed. And of course they have a fabulous selection of instruments new and used. John deserves an arts award from the City of Boise on his perseverance and support of the arts.

Kudos to Old Boise Guitar!

Old Boise does have a lot of nice guitars and people who know their stuff. But they are very reluctant to let you test out a guitar. If you do twist their arm to try one out they have to play it before they hand it over. I don't like that. Yes, we know you play the guitar. I will say they do have a lot of nice guitars and the downtown location gives it a nice feel. I think that their are other places you can go and have a better experience.
