I shouldn't be too picky about places like Sizzler, but I do expect their employees to be trained in basic food handling practices so as to prevent the spread of disease.

It's commendable that they hire the mentally handicapped. I just think some thought should be given to the degree to which a person of diminished capacity can make judgment calls about things she may not have been specifically trained on. This one was picking up food that had been dropped between the bowls and putting it back into its bowl. I suppose it's possible that the leafy garnish they use between the bowls is thoroughly cleaned and that this is an acceptable practice, but it seems better to me that this food be thrown out.

She was wearing those plastic gloves that supposedly protect us from whatever's on her hands, but she was also pushing a cart, handling serving dishes, etc, with that gloved hand, so it didn't seem to be doing much good.

Anyway, the soup was bad and there wasn't much to recommend about the salad bar, even ignoring the employees.

The locals at the next table were going on and on about the time they caught a rattlesnake trying to get in the house so they smashed it in the screen door. This led to other "if you think that's bad, wait til you hear this..." stories from the other toothless, tatooed women at the table. Very appetizing.

Anyway all these places (Sizzler, Bonanza, Ryans, etc.) are the same. This is another one. If you like them you'll like this one. It had been a while since I'd been to one and I forgot how disgusting they were.

PROS: cheap food; hire the handicapped policy
CONS: marginal food-handling practices
