I can't say I'm an expert on BBQ, being in Idaho, but I do know great service and atmosphere, and I know what makes my stomach love me more than anything else, and it's this restaurant. It's run by Grandpa and his family, and all of them are sweet, funny, and a joy to be served by them!

Their food is exquisite, juicy, runny sauce, with just the right amount of smoke and vinegar and sweet, and their meat is so tender and perfect it melts in your mouth, whether you choose the ribs, the brisket or the chicken, and the sides are all so good we usually order extras because we cant decide which to get! On the very rare occasion that we can fit pie in, it's probably the best I've had as well.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Best - Either the service or the food...

Worst - Location, it's connected to a Papa Murphy's, and doesn't feel as homey and fun as it could if it had the site it deserves!

I want to start by saying, I never write bad reviews like this, but I just have to let people know that I was VERY dissapointed with the BBQ at Grandpas!! I was at Papa Murphys one day picking up a pizza and Grandpas BBQ smelled sooo good I knew I had to come back. The older gentlemen behind the counter said, come on back, we've got the best BBQ in Idaho! I was impressed because it smelled so good, so 2 weeks later I came back for dinner with my fiance' and her 4y/o daughter. Besides us, there was only one other person in there picking up an order to go. I must say that the staff there were very VERY friendly and they kept the place very clean. The food however is a whole other story!! I've eaten BBQ in almost every state in the country and this place was the worse by far. I ordered a combo plate with ribs & chicken to share with the 4 y/o, and my fiance ordered the 1/2 chicken plate. Everything came out and looked AND tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp ALL day. (it was ONLY 6pm at night when we ate!!) The chicken was tough and VERY dry, as were the ribs. The side dishes, mac-n-cheese, baked beans, corn bread was old as well and not fresh AT ALL. When the food came out is wasn't even hot, it more like luke warm. The BBQ sauce was in a bottle on the table and was extremely watered down and had no flavor to it whatsoever. This was by far the worse BBQ I have ever eaten in my life!!! (NO Joke!) I honestly have nothing against these people, they were very friendly, but their food in a word, "sucks". 25 minutes after we left the place, my fiance and I both got very bad stomach aches and ended up with gas and diareaha the rest of the night. Her daughter had a stomach ache & gas all night as well. Please whatever you do, please be careful eating at this restaurant!! The food was not hot or even warm....and was very dry.
I just moved up from South Florida were we have some great BBQ places, I'm very dissapointed that Idaho has 2 BBQ places and their both not all that great. Of the two however, stick with Bubbas. They have awesome side dishes, all homemade and the chicken is succulent. The ribs are so-so and the sauce is much better then Grandpas, but I've still had much much better.
Sorry Grandpa....I just was not impressed AT ALL!!
