What a blessing it was to find this school!! We were new to Idaho last year plus our daughter has Asbergers Syndrome so we had a double hurdle to jump. We accidentally found out about Lighthouse from another parent while we were out looking for a new home. This school is AWESOME.
The teachers are dedicated, educated, and true Christ Followers. They foster a loving and patient learning environment and their positive attitude makes for a huge difference in their students every day lives. "Success breeds success" is their motto!! The school curriculum is based on the public school criteria in the district. They focus on teaching the kids not only the basics but learning to think "outside the box" and are truly interested in HOW your child thinks and problem solves. They also employ a multitude of manipulatives in the class room, including experiments, crafts, games, and audio/visual learning along side basic- book learning making for a very "hands on" experience.Unlike some area schools, Lighthouse still has an art and music program and the kids still get 2 to 3 recess periods each day (and PE at least twice a week).
Lighthouse is a private school so there is a tuition payment that can be billed monthly or paid in a lump sum at a discount annually. There is a multiple child discount, and some scholarship opportunities are available as well. The tuition for Lighthouse is less than North Idaho Christian and several other private schools at this time. They currently have classes in K-8th grades and their average class size is about 16 to 20 children in a combination class (IE: 5th and 6th grades together, or 1st and 2nd etc). Kindergarten is the only non-combination class and this year they have 6 students enrolled in their 1/2 day program. The rest of the grades go to school 8:20am to 3:15pm Monday-Thursday. Lighthouse encourages parent participation in their child's education and parents are required to give a total of 24 hours per year of volunteer time to the school with that goal in mind.
The only drawback to this school is that they do not have any after care programs available to working parents, although I am told that this is something they are brainstorming about for the future. There are also no organized sports at this time other than PE. They do, however offer a ski PE program which anyone over 6 years old can participate in.
