I should temper my review by saying that I have talked with the owner of the place. He seems like a great guy and he's actually quite helpful. He ought to do himself a favour though, and axe all of his help.

I took my mountain bike in last summer to get the brakes bled and tuned. I have hydraulic disc brakes, and the brakes were definitely dragging on the rotors. I dropped my mountain bike off. A few days later, I got a call saying that they broke my rear brake line (it was at a bit of an odd angle going into the caliper). It would take a week to get a new hose in, but they would install it with an adapter so that it wouldn't go in the caliper at a weird angle any more. Fair enough.

Not one but two weeks went by without a call. I finally called in and they said it was ready to go. I stopped in and got my bike. The brake hose had not been changed. The brakes had not been bled (the mechanic even said they decided not to bleed the brakes, but only after I paid). The brakes still dragged on the rotors. They didn't do anything in the two weeks that they had the bike -- the original cable never sprung a leak like they reported (the cable was definitely still stock, it had a familiar ding, the same mismatched zip-ties holding it on, and the mounting angle was not changed). I ended up reading up on my brakes, and adjusted them myself after I got the bike back.

Their charge for doing nothing and sitting on my bike for two weeks? $120.

Buying a bike from them is another story. If you know what you want, make sure you talk to the owner. He'll help you out. The rest of the 'help' tends to not be very helpful -- they don't know what's in the store, they don't know what sizes various manufacturers make their bikes in, and they're pretty reticent to look stuff up (they pretty much remind me of Randal from the movie Clerks).

I'd give this place a pass in favor of B&L Bikes in Pullman, or TNT Bikes in Lewiston (both of them hire way more friendly/knowledgeable workers).

Business Response:

New staff! The "help" who were employed at the time of your negative experience were indeed let go when the shop officially changed hands in August of 2009. You should give the shop another try with the new, more professional staff; you might even be greeted with a smile!

this is another one of a kind shop in the town. they have a sort of bicycles you won't find in the big box stores - sorry I don't know much about bikes so cannot tell you much more. but I know they not only sell bikes but also service most types of bikes as well as cycling accessories. very helpful staff and reasonable rate. I had bikes serviced by them a few times and I am happy. if you need a bike to ride on the chipman or latah trail during your visit, that's the place to check out because you can rent one from them.

Message from Paradise Creek Bicycles

My favorite thing about bicycles is that everyone I have ever met has at least one story about riding, pushing or flying down something on a bicycle. The beautiful part is that the bike doesn't care if you are 3 or 93. It just wants another story!
