I had a difficult time getting a doctor for my elderly parents that recently moved here from NY and I was ready to give up when a doctor's office advised me to go to the Dirne Clinic..

When I called and explained my situation they took my parents immediately and referred them out to all of the doctors they required to have full exams and physicals and take care of some issues they were having. I have to say they were attentive and always called me back and always followed up with test results within a couple of days and made all the appointments for me, I just let them know what days and times worked best for me..

I feel that they have gone above and beyond when it comes to attentiveness to my parents and the receptionist are always friendly with us.

And now with their new place they really are getting it together and the surroundings are much more comfortable to be in the office as far as warm and enjoyable.

I really have to be thankful for Dirne Clinic for coming through when no one (I mean no one) else did...

So I appreciate your service Dirne!
Thanks!

I am new to Coeur d'Alene and was in desperate need of a doctor. I not only had a UTI, but I am also in excruciating pain from arthritis and bursitis that I normally get steroid injections to relieve. I called all over just to find a doctor that would accept Medicare. I could find none. Finally, one doctor's office said to call Dirne Clinic.
It took about 10 days to get an appointment. When I went to the appointment, I did not see a doctor. I saw a PA who asked me questions about my medical history and took notes on the paperwork I had already filled out. The problem with that was the PA seemed to not believe some of my answers and re-questioned me with a "look". I felt like I was being talked down to. I was also asked questions that I felt were inappropriate, had absolutely nothing to do with my health, and none of the PA's business. I felt I was being pressured to answer them, although I didn't want to. After a shorter than expected first visit that was abruptly ended by the PA leaving the room, her assistant gave me a prescription for my UTI and told me I would be called at home for a referral to an orthopedic doctor.
After a week or two, when I did not get a referral, I called the clinic and was told that my records had been sent out for the referral and that I would be receiving a call. I told them I was not happy, because this process had not been explained to me. I waited another two weeks and still had not gotten that referral. So I called my previous doctor's office to find out when they sent out my medical records and then Dirne, to see when they had received them. The Dirne front desk had no record of receiving them and forwarded my call to the records department. When they couldn't find them either, the woman got off the phone and physically checked the PA's desk and found them there. I told her I was in excruciating pain and was frankly tired of waing for a referral. She put me through to the PA's MA, who wasn't there, so I left a voice mail for her to please return my call. It's been several days and I still have heard nothing.
Instead of unpacking boxes and setting up my new place, I've been in bed for about 6 weeks due to the pain. I have read the following about this clinic: " Lidwina Dirne witnessed the heartbreaking impact a single mother with disabilities suffered without access to basic medical care for herself or her family." Well, I, too, am a single mother with disabilities without access to basic medical care. I should have listened to all the bad reviews about this place and tried to find somewhere else to go. How many weeks does a person in pain have to wait for a phone call?

Just a question. I have an enlarged spleen, but no medical insurance and lower income. I was told by doctors at kmc I need a splenectomy. Is there anything the dirne clinic can do to help

Hello Josh- I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble finding healthcare. We do not employ surgeons at our health center, but have some great partnerships in the community. I'd recommend that you call us and establish care with us and we will do our best to connect you with the resources that you need. Be sure to follow the recomendations of the doctors at KMC until you have another option however. Our number is 208-292-0292. Good luck!

I have called twice and left messages and never received a return call. I drove there one day and walked in and told i had to call...so i went home and left 2 more messages.... and never recieved a return call. Today i am suffering with a tooth ache that can put me through the roof. What is the problem? I know this can happen once in a while but to totally ignore someone and never - NEVER get back to them.

Hello Sherri- . My name is Mike Baker; I am the CEO at Dirne CHC. I read your review tonight and was troubled to hear about your experience. I am very sorry to hear that we were not able to help. We constantly find ourselves in difficult situations like this as there are simply too many uninsured patients for us to treat alone in the community. Our organization provides care to 8,000 individuals each year during 33,000 patient visits. We are working very hard to find ways to increase access for new patients. We just hired a new medical provider 11/15/2010) who will be a wonderful addition to our team. We hope to continue to add more providers, but we have to find a way to pay for them first. I understand how difficult it is out there, we wish we could see everyone that needed us. Look for some big changes in 2011. We have heard your concerns and are working on improving. I can always be reached at 208-292-0256 if you‚??d like to discuss this in greater depth.

Sandra, That's not always the case. Sometimes things happen while driving and things are out of life's control. Give people a break.

Yesterday was my first time at the dirnie clinic for a UTI. I overall enjoyed the staff and thought the doctor did a good job with my case. The waiting time was really good as I didn't have to wait long at all to be seen and treated. I appreciate that. My experience went well. However; My mom's didn't. She had pneumonia earlier on this year and went to the dirnie to follow up on medication and see how she was doing. She said the doctor was really a screwball. The doctor didn't even acknowledge the problem or write a prescription for blood pressure; Told my Mom to come back in a month. She had about two pills left in the bottle and the doctor didn't care. So, She didn't like the visit at all. Businesses need to get rid of the garbage when need be. It is bad on the business when people with no brains work for them. The only real complaint that I have is the bathroom where the rooms are. It was a bit gross. I went in there and there was urine all over the seat and toilet rim. Ew. Otherwise, I was fortunate to not have had a bunch of brainless deadbeats see me. Thanks Dirne.

Hello Yram N. - My name is Mike Baker, the CEO at Dirne Community Health Center. I am torn by your review. I am glad that you had a great experience, but was sad to hear that your mother did not. I am very sorry to hear that your mother felt like she was treated poorly. I know all of our medical providers very well and can promise you that there is not a "screwball" in the mix. These folks are caring, committed people that chose to work in a place where they can make a difference. I'd love to visit with your mother about her experience so that I can gain better understanding into the specifics. Please have her call me at 208-292-0256. We are committed to providing excellent healthcare for the community. I hope that we can hit the mark better next time.

I have to say that the dirnie clinic has been amazing, always friendly and helpful. They are always caring and understanding. There are times when I may have to wait awhile for my appointment, but it is worth the wait, I would not want any other doctor. MY problem is that when I went to the behavior health part the ladies at the front desk were rude, I had to wait a real long time well over 20 min for my appt. and that was the 3 times I was there. My paper work had been faxed and I had discussed this with Ruth. The problem was she said that she would not put me on my Ritalin for my ADD until I was on my other meds for a while, but after I was on them she said she wanted paper work showing I was already on it, the thing was that she had that paper work and said it was not in her file. So here I am waiting for my old doctor to send the paper work again... This has been so stressful. All she had to do was re test me or do a trial and see. There was no reason for this.. I have since lost my job because I can not finish my tasks on time, that would because I CAN NOT FOCUS. Ruth is a horrible doctor.

My physician, nurse Kathy and Ginger (the patient assistance program coordinator) are excellent. Cannot say enough good about how they take care of me. Kathy keeps up & informs me about tests I need. Ginger makes sure I am up to date on meds and all the other staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. This is the best care I have ever received even at a private Dr.'s ofc. I don't have ins or medicare yet so I can't tell you how important this is to me. I would never go anywhere else.

Thanks Thanks for the very kind words Sandra- We do have a process for getting patients in and out efficiently and try our best to accommodate everyone that wants to work with us. Our medical providers do work very hard to be accommodating when people are running behind. We understand that it happens to the best of us. We just have to keep our day running so that we can see as many patients as possible. It is tough out there and there are many people that want our help. We are trying our best to respond to the needs of our patients and hope that people continue to be supportive of the work that we do. I am sorry to hear that a few folks have had a bad experience with us. Dirne Community Health Center really is a great place with some tremendous doctors, dentists, counselors and staff. They all are here because they want to help and I feel very fortunate to have them as a part of our team. I urge people to contact me if they have problems with the health center, we are not perfect, but we are trying our best and will continue working to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, high quality health care. I can be reached at 208-292-0256.

I'm amazed that you have to be signed up as a "regular" before you can be seen at the Dirne Clinic. If you are sick and can't afford the outrageous cost of the ER you will not get into the Dirne Clinic unless they have already seen you before. So.... it seems it would be good to just go in and get yourself on the list...... however they are not taking any "new" patients. So...... once again if you don't have money..... you're screwed. Thanks for nothing Dirne Clinic!

New Patient Process Hello Rebecca, sorry to hear that you had some trouble getting in to the health center. We are currently accepting new patients; however our capacity is limited due to our current space and the number of patients that are looking for help. Most of our providers have two new patient appointment slots each day. These fill up fast, so I understand why it can be frustrating. We are hoping to have some new medical providers on board with us in the next few months; this should help us get more patients in. Let me know if I can help in any way- Mike Baker 208-292-0256

I just called to try and get help for my mom. I was told by the receptionist that she really needs to have my mom call and make the appointment. Even given the story that my mom wont do it on her own, she would not help me! If you guys are doing such a good thing, why is it that you would refuse someone to make an appointment for their mother? I live 3 1/2 hours away & am trying to help as much as possible & you guys have made it impossible for me to get her any help! She has been having bloody stools for a long time now & there is a multitude of things it could be. I dont want to see my mother die at such a young age! I understand that a person has to be willing to help themselves, but I and you guys should be happy that she agreed to go if I made her an appointment! But I cant do that because your receptionist wouldnt let me do that!

Thank you Dirne community Health Center, like several others i can not afford medical insurance and the Dirne center assists me by providing me with medical assistance at a fraction of the cost to go to my normal doctor. The Dirne center is always willing to work with me on payments and provides me with medicine when i can not afford to purchase it. The Dirne center has always been very professional and polite to me, i can not thank the staff enough for all that they do me and everyone else that the help out.

After waiting two months for my "new patient" appointment the day finally arrived but I was ten minutes late for "the paper work". I informed the receptionist that I had already filled out personal information and had mailed it to the clinic. But that was not enough, she had to put it in the computer. But when asked why this had not already been done, she informed me I had to be there in order for her to do that.
The physician that was scheduled to see me, refused to see me in fear of putting herself behind.
The receptionist informed me that I must make another appointment. But when I called the appointment number, I was told to call back in Febuary in order to get an appointment in March.
If anything was seriously wrong with me, healthwise, I probably would have had to use the emergency room all because of the all important "paper work."
Dirne needs to realize what really is more important; someone's health or that the paper work be entered in the computer.

The only low cost healthcare office in the area. Dr's and staff are all volunteer.Pay only what you can. If they have the medicine you need they provide it at little or no cost. I don't know what this communitity would do without this clinic

PROS: Same day appointment and walk in clinic.
CONS: sometimes in the walk in you have to wait awhile, but it is worth it.

CONS: sometimes in the walk in you have to wait awhile, but it is worth it.
