This is a used bookstore and the best of its kind in the Chicago area. Once you step into this store, you will need a good couple of hours before you will be able to venture out. And that is because there are just so many books here to choose from. They have shelves and shelves of books that are so interesting and, often times, hard to find anywhere else. Be prepared to sift and search though because this store is not super organized at all times!

This is the type of bookstore you could get lost in for days! Powell's specializes in used and rare books, so you can find everything you're looking for -- and things you didn't know you were looking for! The clerks are all world-class and help make this store what it is. They are so helpful and will direct you on your searches. This location has a coffee bar to make your browsing more enjoyable. Stop in on a rainy day and immerse yourself in all the wonderful books! They also have an online catalog.

Ratings_icons Chicago's best used bookstore

Powell's (both the Lincoln Park and Hyde Park locations) boast Chicago's best collection of used books. An eclectic mix of both fiction & non-fiction, you'll be hard pressed to leave there without something that interests you.

The only downside to a store that is this well stocked with good books is that they know how much they're worth. While you may be unlikely to find the kind of steal that you might at lesser used bookstores, you'll definitely be able to find something worthwhile.

PROS: Amazing selection
CONS: Prices are not discount.
