The windows they installed don't look like the windows the salesman showed me, they look cheaper. The first time the installers came they brought the wrong windows, so I had to wait longer. when they finally came with the right windows, they got here early, I told them to give me a minute to move my child's toys and beading they did not listen and started ripping out my old windows and put the garbage on my kids bed," I mean come on" They also left a mess inside and out. The only good thing is I got a good price on all the windows, but I don't think it was worth it. Next time I will go else wear. You get what you pay for. I tried to look past the bad reviews and give them a chance, Shame on me!!

I completely agree with Doug.H, Ray and all the bad reviews for them, I am trying to understand how anyone can like them at all. 1 reason could be they themself write the review. Doug. H actually saved me a lot of writing, everything happened to me the exact way it happened to him. So stay away from them and belive me their are many more window companies in the chicago area who are far better than them...If a person from Universal is reading this, you just lost a 20k job and stop calling me...

Our rep, Alejandro was excellent......addressed all my concerns. The windows look great and the installers were clean and careful with my home.

These guys are con artists. My wife and I own an apartment building. It needs windows badly. So we called around. Universal was the first to come out. However, they said they wouldn't come out unless both my wife and I were both present. Why? "It's our policy". So I agreed. An Indian salesman showed up. Didn't ask for my wife at all. So I decided not to call her away from her work to meet with us. I could barely understand the guy. While he was professional and courtious he didn't know much about windows. He opened his binder with basically a power point printout of a sales pitch. He used his finger to read to me what was on the page (I guess he thought I couldn't read). He kept talking to me about how well they install windows and why theirs is so much better. "We make our own windows, so they are better", he said.

After informing him that I was a contractor several times I got the sense that he didn't know what that meant. After an hour or so of trying to speed him up through his spiel I chose to end the meeting. Gave him my email address and asked for a quote to be sent to me. Because it was obvious he wasn't capable of doing it himself (had to talk to his manager). Now I have no idea why they would send out an estimator that didn't know how to do estimates.

He asked what price per window I would pay to sign today. "I'm not signing anything today. What's your estimate", I said. I thanked him for his time and said good day. Email me the estimate.

An hour later I got a call from a woman at Universal asking how the salesman did. I was honest like I am here. A couple hours later I got another call from a guy saying they'd like to schedule another appointment with the manager and my wife and I. Had to have my wife there. I told them, "You already measured. I've talked to you guys 5 times now. Give me a price.". "Sorry sir, we need your wife to be present.". WHAT?

The next day (this morning) I got another call at 8 am. Wanting to setup another appointment. Again, I told them they had enough info to give me a price. Call me when you're ready to give me a price.

I called back after another company came out for an estimate (had two brochures and a written estimate in 15 minutes) and asked if they had a price yet. They said my wife needed to be present. I had it at that point. I informed them that they just lost a $10,000 sale. Congratulations idiots. 30 seconds later another one of their goons called me back trying to meet with my wife. WTF? So I told him, you lost a sale moron. And their ain't sh*t you need to speak to my wife about. That's my job. *click*

Never did get any form of price from them.

As a contractor, and an honest one at that, these guys are con artists. I wouldn't refer them to an enemy. Save your time and don't even call. NOT the type of company to do business with. They should be selling ice cream cones from a truck. Not windows.

Abraham was an excellent salesman and adressed my needs. I agreed to a trial of three windows prior to having them do my whole house. After the initial 3 day refusal period, the installer came out and provided some detail information regarding installation. For example, they would have to cut the siding to remove and replace the windows. I was not happy and called to cancel and get my deposit back. That's where things really started to go south. Aaron, who says he's the VP, would not help, lied and told me the windows were done already and then said I would eventually owe them more money for the salesman and the measurer coming to my house. They are going to lose a $20k deal over an $820 deposit. Get this bad review and potentially lose all of my neighbors who will need new windows. Not smart. I hope you read this Aaron.

Pros: tax credit

a universal salesman came to my home to give a free estimate on windows and what was supposed to be a 1 hour appointment turned into him being at my home for 2 1/2 HOURS giving his presentation... I was absolutely livid and had to literally THROW him out of my home.. it was like he wasn't going to leave without the sale..their sales tactic is to wear you down to the point where you'll sign anything just to get them to leave... so beware if you call for an estimate

me and my wife had a couple of other companies out to give us a price on a custom patio door. universal was the last company to come out and good thing we did not buy from the pushy sales rep from feldco because universal was almost half the price. when we heard the price of the door we decided to have the guy give us a price for our windows (they weren't half the price like the door but where still much cheaper than feldco.) we did half the windows and the door and looking to finance the second half of the windows very soon. very nice installers...

all i can say is that i am very impressed. i ordered my windows and a patio door with a nice salesman that explained allot about windows that i did not know. when i ordered them they told me the usual wait time for custom made windows would be 3-5 weeks. they called me 8 days after i ordered and said that they could do the install the next day. i told them this must be some kind of mistake i just ordered the windows 8 days ago and the final measurement was 5 days ago and the salesman told me 3-5 weeks so how can they be ready. They told me that they where and we set the install for the next day and now I have brand new windows and getting $100 for referring my brother all within 10 days

called and made appointment for replacement of a window, lady who answered the phone was cordial, nobody ever showed up for the appointment called back and some moron who says he's a manager, (hard to believe someone would promote this guy) told me they will only do service for owners, they do not want business from large companies with staff ie: purchasing managers. Waste of time go elsewhere
