A Shear Encounter

I got married in August and I brought my 6 bridesmaids and my mother to get our hair and makeup done. First when I went for my trial, after visiting my regular stylist not at A Shear Encounter, I was so upset to see the job my regular stylist did with my highlights. After having all the stylist help with problem we were able to solve it. The day of my wedding I was so happy with the service from everyone. Every person that worked there did a phenomenal job with making sure every single need was met for us. From getting us drinks, to handing us sandwiches that we brought, to having the most perfect up-do ever that matched each of the girls personalities, it was truly a great experience. Starla did a wonderful job with my up-do (with my beautiful new highlights, thank you) and Nicole made my makeup perfect. I still had perfect hair the next day too! I really can not thank everyone at that salon enough, they made me feel special and made the beginning of the best day ever, truly amazing. I highly recommend A Shear Encounter, they have now became my new salon and also my husbands.

I like a salon where I feel comfortable, and I have here. customer service is exceptional, and the salon & spa decor is warm and clean. I feel my requests are honored.

I decided to give them a try because of the reviews I read on this website and also because they are located close to my home. On my second visit the experience turned out to be a nightmare.

First time at this place I was charged $40 for a trim and then the so called "designer" pushed for me to buy a bunch of high priced products. The second time there I was charged $55 and the "designer" did not follow my instructions (I just wanted an inch off from the length) cut my hair very short and tried to mask the awful job she did on me by applying a bunch of styling products on my hair. Also, here again, she was putting pressure for me to buy mousse, wax, creme, hair spray, etc.

What a waste...

I AM NEW TO ELMHURST AND HAD DONE SOME SHOP HOPING DUE TO DISSATISFACTION.I HAD DECIDED TO CALL THE REALTOR I BOUGHT MY HOUSE FROM DIANE, AND SHE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A SHEAR ENCOUNTER. SHE RECOMMENDED TO SEE ONE OF THE DIRECTORS GINGER FOR A CONSULTATION AND INITIAL SERVICE, AND FROM THERE ANYONE WOULD BE ABLE TO SERVICE ME DUE TO GINGER TRAINING ALL OF THE STYLIST IN THE SALON. IT TOOK A WEEK TO GET OUR SCHEDULES TO COORDINATE, BUT IT WAS SURE WITH THE WAIT. HER PROFESSIONALISM, PASSION,AND TALENT SURPASSED MY EXPECTATIONS. MY CONSULTATION WAS THE MOST BENEFICIAL I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. THE SPA IS BEAUTIFUL AS WELL,I LOVED MY MASSAGE FROM AMANDA.

I just love this salon! I feel like I have found something very special. I have never walked out dissappointed. Starla is a gem! I have searched for a colorist and stylist,that I loved,for a long time. I have found them both in her. She is very talented. She listens to my ideas and knows what will work and what will not. Who knew my hair could look so good!?!

PROS: Great service, relaxing atmosphere, and reasonable prices!
CONS: absolutely none!

I moved from this area awhile back. I miss A Sheer Encounter so much. I was there when they opened their first shoppe in Elmhurst on Spring Road and am SO PLEASED to see how much they've grown. This is the ONLY shoppe that consistently gave me the best cuts and perms. I wish I could fly the owner up here or I could go there when in town. I'm sorry, I don't remember her name, but I remember she had blond hair (at the time anyway) was young (then again so was I, LOL) and she had a sister who was a stylist and likely partner. The only trouble I ever had there was looking up the phone number. I'd have trouble remembering to put the letter "A" in front of the name as it's called "A Sheer Encounter."
