Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen is great food and value

by pam h.

My first time at this restaurant and I enjoyed everything from the food to the service. Portions were very generous and waiter accommodated all of my picky health requests. Looking forward to trying there happy hour with my coworkers. I would definitely recommend Pappadeaux to my friends and family.

Pappadeaux

by Teresa F. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 283

This is a wonderful seafood/cajun restaurant with some really good food. I had their lobster bisque, which wasn't on the menu, but they made it anyway and it was the best bisque that I have ever had. Just a little hot kick, with lumps of big lobster - it was sooo good. The prices are a little high, but nice atmosphere and easy parking.

Excellent desserts

by D. L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,090

It seems like many restaurants have good food but they do not have particularly good desserts, you could take or leave the desserts. But at Pappadeaux there is a dessert for everyone. Everyone I have eaten there with has ordered something different and they all love the dessert they ordered. They have a huge dessert selection. I would practically never leave this restaurant without having dessert. You can also buy the sauces they put on their fish dishes so you can cook with them at home--it was about $16 for a quart the last time I was there.

I recently went there for a holiday brunch; they served pancakes and waffles, omelettes to order, muffins, fruit salad, Caesar salad, fried chicken, fried catfish, blackened catfish, slices of roast beef and lamb, some rice dishes, a fried potato dish, peel and eat shrimp. It was okay. I actually picked up two dishes that were too dirty to eat on. The "blackened catfish" was in a heavy cream sauce that looked delicious but had no flavor. I piled shrimp on my plate, but only ate 2 of them--they weren't tasty or particularly good, and I guess I wasn't in the mood for peel-and-eat. They appeared unable to keep the food trays replenished--I was constantly seeing empty trays or getting the last morsel of something--particularly, the salads; if you missed the blackened catfish, you were out of luck because they put out salmon in a mustard sauce instead after awhile. One person I was with said, "let me go get some (salad, potatoes or whatever) before they run out . . .." Also, they didn't have things labeled; after we left, 2 of the people I was with said they didn't know there was fried chicken and that they would have had some if they had known it was being served. Maybe it's that you get what you pay for, it was only $21.95 (dessert not included), but they could have done better at keeping the food replenished even at the low price.

As for the Thursday all-you-can eat lobster night--save your money. I never knew someone could mess up lobster, but the lobster tail was too chewy; the best part was the meat in the claws, which was, of course, difficult to get to. The sides that came with the lobster were very good--corn on the cob and small roasted red potatoes. When I called to make the reservation they told me it would be $39.95 and when I got the check it was $49.95; when you make your reservation, I recommend getting the name of the person who quotes you the price so you can take up the issue with a manager if they charge you more than they quoted. Also, I asked for onion rings in place of the dirty rice that comes with the lobster deal; when they told me they'd have to charge extra for that, I didn't think they were going to charge the full priced for an order of onion rings. When I asked about this, they said the onion rings aren't considered a "replacement" for the rice; they can't do any "replacements" for the rice. Then, why didn't they bring me rice AND onion rings?

I will still go to Pappadeaux (they're brownie bayou dessert is the best dessert I've had at any restaurant, ever), but not for the lobster night and not for a holiday brunch.

Mmmm Lobster

by Douglas Y. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,739

What can i say, Pappadeaux is awesome. Home of the $44.99 all you can eat Thursday Lobster night. Where they serve you whole lobsters until you can eat no more. And believe me, once you try it, you have to wait about half a year until you wanna eat lobster again. Be sure to make a researvation as the wait for a table on Thurs can be as long as 2 hours.

More expensive than other seafood places

by Jackie G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,952

Pappadeaux is more expensive than other seafood restaurants in the area, but their menu is a bit more varied, which makes up for it a little bit. They have good appetizers, and their dishes have a cajun twist.

Decent Cajun seafood

by colinsilveira

Pappadeaux serves us pretty good Cajun flavored seafood. The service is very good but the restaurant semms to be overcrowded and noisy. The interior decor does not lend itself to a good dining experience. The food itself comes in large portions (as usual) and everything seemed fresh and seasoned. Overall it was a good dining experience.

Terrible service, mediocre food.

by terries

Based upon the good reviews that I read on this, and other sites, my husband and I took a friend who was visiting from the UK, to Pappadeaux's. Once we were seated, we waited for fifteen minutes before the waiter showed up. I ordered a cocktail before the meal--which arrived twenty minutes later with my sandy and lukewarm chowder. There was no bread brought to our table until we were almost done with our soup--which was ultimately no great loss, because it was over-soft, and chewy, as if it had been microwaved. I ordered the New Orleans fillet--a tilapia--which was a nice enough piece of fish, but covered in a gloppy sauce. Very overpriced. My husband ordered fried catfish which was fine and our friend ordered shrimp creole which had lots of shrimp but was nothing special. We ordered some mixed vegetables to go with our meal which we had to chase the waiter down to get. We had to chase them down for everything. We were very embarrassed to have taken our friend there and we will never go back.

Always returning

by luvoffood

This place is fantastic, both my wife and I enjoy it each return we have made.
Try the Fondou appetizer...its great.

You must always experience the "Swamp-Thing" when you arrive.
If you plan on taking kids, do not take them on a Friday or Saturday night, overwhelming packed sometimes.
We visit early when the kids are with us.

Great Experience

by patbubo

I have been here several times, and have been so pleased. The food (I've had shrimp, scallops, tuna and desserts) is wonderful, and the service is great. Make reservations, and on a very crowded night you'll only have to wait a half-hour or less, but lots more time w/out reservations (and you can wait at the bar). The shrimp caesar salad was incredible -- grilled smoky shrimp on top, and the shrimp cocktail has big and meaty shrimp. Scallops had a delicate sauce, and chocolate desserts are the best. It was romantic on Valentine's day and the server gave me a rose (great ambience upstairs especially). Good place!

Pros: Fresh Seafood, Nice "Date" Ambience, Good Service

Pretty Great...Overall

by basketmaker

Pappadeaux is a great place to eat if Cajun is your flavor. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. I have Broiled Salmon Orleans and it is always so tender it melts in my mouth. Their dirty rice is a little spicy, much to my pleasure. One thing is lacking: the shrimp. It is Red Lobster quality for a much higher price. Its not meaty enough and kind of limp. The breading is not crispy has no real flavor. Fortunately, this was the only thing on Pappadeaux's menu that disappointed me. The fried alligator appetizer is hot 'n spicy and to die for. The desert tray boasts rich and flavorful delectibles. You have to try their sweet potato pecan pie. These are two flavors that I never imagined combining, but they thrive in unison. It is served warm with a generous scoop of Hagen Dazs vanilla ice cream... HEAVENLY!!!

Pros: Great entrees, Great deserts, Servers and ambience

Cons: Skimp, whimpy, limp shrimp, Make reservations
