My experiences go back to when they opened their doors. I have had numerous events here both for the company I worked for and my family. The food is excellent which is complimented by an attentive and friendly staff and driven by a kitchen staff which are absolutely superb!! Everything is cooked to order which may make the wait seem longer but the reward for waiting is some of the finest food you will find in the Midwest. It is a fun place for everyone because once you are there you are family. We all have favorite places and this is ours but what sets them apart from others is that everyone is treated like family and if something is not right (which is extremely rare) it is taken care of to your satisfaction without hesitation. Get there early, browse the menu and ask the staff for suggestions or recommendations. Once you try the many offerings you will find that Rosal's deserves the recognition they receive from a very loyal customer base and restaurant critics. Life is a journey so make this one of your stops.....

I am a born Brooklynite Sicilian and coming from NY I was not very happy with the Italian food I found in Chicago until I ate here. Rosal's is up to the standard if not better then any authentic place in Bensenhurst, Jersey City or Little Italy in NYC or San Fran. I truly love the food, service and atmosphere. It makes me feel like I am back home in NY. You must try the Veal with Lemon and Peppers, just like my grandma Gussie used to make it...Fantastico!

An amazing, intimate restaurant in Little Italy. RoSal's has only about 10 tables in the main dining room and the chef (Sal) frequently comes out to see guests. The waitstaff will mix up a plate of olive oil, parmesan, and pepper that will tempt you toeat loaves of the bread. Try to resist eating too much so you don't ruin your appetite for later!
For apetizers, try the stuffed mushrooms. The pastas are very fresh and always excellent. The lemon italian ice for dessert comes in a large lemon and isagreat treat, even if you're stuffed from the preceding meal.

A co-worker suggested RoSal's and we went there with friends for my birthday. It was totally worth it. It was just a little noisy, but in a good way: makes you feel at home/with friends and not loud enough to disrupt a conversation. The food was outstanding, grilled calamari are some of the best I've tried and the ravioli are simply the best. The service was wonderful: Linda is a very nice and friendly person who knows her stuff really well. Finally, the coffee and the desserts... M-m-m... I want to go back there NOW :).

By the way, I think it's a great place for a date. Permanently in my bookmarks.

I went here with my lawyer friend for his birthday and found that I could set up a reservation online. VERY easy. There was no wait to be seated.

The staff was very friendly. The food was WONDERFUL. We shared the Grilled Calamari to start. TENDER and flavorful.

I had chicken in a lemon cream sauce that was just amazing. My dessert was the White Chocolate Mousse that was the perfect ending to the dinner.

My father had Veal and the he loved it. He finished with the Lemonchello Ice.

My lawyer had the Linguine Ai Frutti di Mare and he loved it. He finished with the Chocolate? Um? I can??t remember but it was the only chocolate dessert on the menu. I gave the waitress candles and a lighter and the dessert came out and we were able to wish him a happy birthday and it was very nice!

The best part?? THERE WAS NO LOUD MUSIC TO SCREAM OVER! This is the first place in the area I have tried that didn??t have the music up so fu*king loud that you can??t hold a conversation?

I give this place 5 stars because the visit couldn??t have been better! I would give it 10 stars because of the lack of super super loud music.

Simply put Rosal's has the best Italian food in town. No one and I mean no one can beat the portions and the price. The service is exceptional. Linda is one of the waitresses there and she is one of the nicest people I know. Joe and Cyndi the owners are great people as well. The food what can you say from the appetizers the to the main dishes all of them are great!...Portabella chicken is one of the best I have ever had. I always say it is to die for it is so good.

This is a really great restaurant in the the heart of Little Italy in Chicago. I have probably been to every Italian restaurant in the area: Tuscany, Rosebud, etc.... They can't touch Rosal's. It has a great cozy atmosphere and the service is wonderful. We had a reservation and were seated as we walked in the door. The waitress was great. She made sure we had what we needed but didn't make us feel rushed. The prices were great. I think the most expensive thing on the menu was a $22 steak. We had the grilled calamari and baked clams for appetizer and both were fabulous. I had the grilled pork chops and my husband got the chicken marsala. Both were cooked to perfection. Two friends had the artichoke rigatoni and the portabella chicken. Both were fantastic. The menu is extensive, with lots of choices for everyone evne my friend a vegetarian. We had the white chocolate mousse with fresh strawberries for dessert and it was to die for. I will definitely reccomend this to anyone and will go back myself. I don't think I will go back to Tuscany's now that I have been here.

Delicious fresh food! Very nice people run this restaurant. The sausage cacciatore was great & service was very good. Nice sized portion and reasonably priced. Hope to be back when visiting Chicago again. Wish they had restaurants like this in NYC.

They had an ad on Craigslist that they were hiring. After responding with my resume and receiving no call or email back, I was suprised to see that I had been signed up for their newsletter. After inquiring why and asking to be removed I received a response from Cyndi (who it turns out is the owner, or at least the wife of the owner). She was insincerely apologetic and claimed all the emails for the positions had been sent to the spam folder. Luckily for Rosals they were able to retrieve all these emails after the fact and add them to their mailing list. When I asked why there was no email notification sent to explain why they hadn't responded to the numerous applicants, I couldn't get an answer. Looks more like they are phishing for email addresses than employees.

My husband and I ate here with my parents who were visiting from out of town. We are all used to the great Italian restaurants that are in NYC but we were definitely not disappointed by this restaurant. We all ordered different appetizers and they were served as they were ready, family style, which was great because we all got to try all of the appetizers. The fried ravioli is awesmome! My husband hates ricotta cheese and he loved it. For our entree's three of us had pasta dishes and one veal dish. All of the entree's were great with very different tastes which would make me want to go back and try more new things. The service was extremely friendly and amiable. I would not say that the service was slow as much as I would say it was paced. We were given enough time to enjoy each course and still had time to enjoy each other's company. During dessert they even brought us each a complimentary shot of Sambuca. If I haven't said enough good about RoSal's yet, let me just add that their wine list is also very reasonable. Overall, I would highly reccommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great Italian cuisine!

St. Louis Missouri and Boston Mass have the BEST Italian food---hands down. No kidding. I had been searching the city for GOOD tasty grandmas cookin' italian in Chicago. Not the fancy schmancy or the "concept" italians that keep popping up all over the place. I happended to stumble upon the restaurant off of open table. Just did a search for affordable and something that looked kid friendly. I wasn't expecting much. Wow--what an unexpected find. The servers are all very warm and friendly--honestly, like family. The food is exceptional--from the crisp and fresh house salad. You can tell that the owner is VERY particular about his/her produce. They get the best (and in the middle of winter). Just plain yummy. And our entrees--fabulous. I had the pasta with shrimp, spinach and tomato. Awesome. The shrimp was perfectly cooked so that it was just succulent--and the tomatoes were sauteed perfectly. Wow. My husband had the pasta with chicken, peas and proscuitto. We had a favorite at a place in St. Louis that served the same pasta--this blew it away. We were just pleased all around. Yes, the service is PAINFULLY slow--we have a 2.5 year old that wanted OUT. BUT--take a look at that kitchen. It is the size of my college bathroom--just tiny. Give them a break. Yes, parking is a pain--but so is just about everywhere in the city AND they DO have a valet. We liked the bread---it isn't spectacular but it is pretty darn good---better than most places. I'd give it a 9/10. For the price and what you get---this is a great value. We are all the way up in Glenview and plan to return on a fairly regular basis. I think thats saying something!!!!!!!!!

I have a hard time convincing myself that it is worth it to go out for Italian, but having heard so much about RoSal's, I though I'd give it a try. It is a small and charming place with a homey feel. Again, having heard so much about this place, I was expecting to be blown away, but I wasn't really. The bread was OK; no black pepper on the table though for sprinking into the olive oil and parmesan cheese. The fried ravioli that we had for an appetizer was amazing -- covered in a delicious cheesy garlicky sauce. YUM. After eating such decadent deliciousness, I was really looking forward to the entree -- I got the Sweet Agnolotti -- it was fine, nothing spectacular. The sauce was good but heavy on the oil and almost too light on the garlic. The little spinach crescents were cute but the filling tasted stale somehow. I would probably try something else if we went back -- the seafood pastas looked and smelled good. My husband got the veal saltimbocca which he thought was excellent and really enjoyed it. Overall, though, I'm still not convinced that I've found a place that makes it worth it to go out for Italian food.

If you've seen the great movie "Big Night" - or even if you haven't - you should know that Rosals does a re-creation every last Tuesday of the month. I once did it on my birthday and intend to do it again sometime. It's a LOT of food but truly a great value at $65. a person as it includes wine. Look at the menu on their website under 'big night' This would be so much fun with a group.

My husband knows the owners, Sal and Rosanne Perry, so going here for dinner was convienent. Even so, the food is incredible. Mrs. Perry designed the dining area to look like your grandma's kitchen (vintage wood floors), cozy, warm and inviting. The second floor is better for parties of 6 or more, and boasts a beautiful bar. Yes, you will have to wait a bit for your food, since everything is made to order, but personally, I'd rather have incredible food than food prepared quickly that doesn't appeal to my tastebuds! Recommended dishes include the homemade gnocchi and raviolis, and you absolutely MUST have someone in your party order the portobello chicken- it's to die for! Chicken and portobellos cooked with a sherry wine sauce- AH! So good! You can't swing a dead cat without hitting an Italian restaurant in Chicago (I know, I grew up there), but take my advice- avoid the trendy choices and go with RoSal's. My husband proposed to me after a dinner there (Mrs. Perry asked if he wanted her to do something special for us- how's that for "coming home"?), and our bridal party and family had dinner there the night after the wedding, so obviously, RoSal's holds sentimental value for me. But it's really the food and the atmosphere that keeps us coming back.

Our party had a total of 7 people in it. Everyone loved what they got. We started with a large salad bowl that reminded me of something I would get at my mother's. (I was born in Italy.) Everyone who had any sort of pasta dish commented on how they could tell the pasta was homemade. I myself had the perch Sicilian style. The fish was tender and delicious, and the sauce it came in was fantastic. After the main courses, and before desert, the waitress brought us a complimentary round of anisette to help cleanse the palate. I had lemon sorbetto. A couple of people had pineapple sorbetto. And someone else had tiramisu. Everything was delicious. We would unconditionally recommend this restaurant, and will definitely be back. Just don't be upset if you have to wait a while for the from-scratch cooking.

We have been several times and enjoy it very much. The appetizers are so good and many to choose from so be careful because so are the entree's. Everything is made as you order it so if you are in a hurry this is not the place. If you want a romantic dinner that is non-rushed and wonderful in flavor you found the spot!!! Always make reservations the times I have been there they had to turn away walk ins.

Kudos to RoSal's for being so busy on a Tuesday night that it took 45 minuets to serve pasta... I have been a regular at RoSal's for 6 years and I can remember being the only one in the restaurant on a Tuesday night! You wait and hour to sit at a lot of Taylor Street locations.... so RoSal's "You have come a long way Baby!" I still love the food and I still love the service..... XOXOX

Maybe, Maybe I could understand what happend to us on a busy Saturday night, but for a Tuesday this was totally unacceptable! It took 25 minutes for my party of 2 to even order. Then, no less than 1 hour after we ordered, we still did not have our entrees (which were gnoochi and rigotoni). We were told by the manager that pasta takes an hour to prepare. AN HOUR FOR PASTA??? Then after we asked for the check (without ever getting our entrees) we were told by the same manager "there is no check, you can leave now" I have no desire to give money to a restaurant that could care less about their customers. I don't care if Charlie Trotter himself is cooking it.Terrible! Terrible! Terrible!

Thoughtful waitress (Linda), large variety of choices on the menu, Try the Fried Ravioli-it's like nothing you have EVER eaten before. Great suggestions given on the entree items. We wish we could try them all and we will as we return time and time again! So many smiling customers, people were actually chatting table to table and they didn't even know each other. You will leave this restaurant with a satisfied belly, a happy wallet, and warmth in your heart. Please go see what I did-you won't be disappointed!

You have to give them a little credit... they told you when you walked in it would be a wait to eat, they even bought you a salad?! I can't remember ever being compensated for waiting to eat?! I have waited an hour at bars of Taylor St. restaurants just to sit down for a reservation?! I say make the reservation, go enjoy your freinds and relax and have a great meal... Just my opinion.

This is my second posting as it has been some time since I have gone back to this fine establishment due to a move I made which is over 70 miles away. However, it deserves revisiting. Exquisite Italian Cuisine One of the finest Italian restaurants I have had the pleasure of dining. The veal RoSal is one of the best veal dishes I have had. I have also added the Shrimp Anival. I have eaten all over the world (including six months worth of meals throughout Italy) and quite extensively throughout the Chicagoland area, and one would be hard pressed to find a restaurant with service and recipes to top RoSal's! This is truly an old time family run business with top notch homemade food and service not found elsewhere. The wait staff is fantastic! I have never felt so attended to by each and every member of the wait staff. Everyone is extremely eager to please and pleasant to speak with! This is not like the other restaurants in Chicagoland area, the owner and his family are actually hosting and checking in on tables every night. And if they are eating, offer to share their meals with any willing patrons to try something different. Welcome to their family!

Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Value

Cons: Not a one!

Wow! I can't say enough about the service, the atmosphere, the food, and the wine! The Eggplant Parmesan was incredible and I didn't think it could get any better after the delicious Fried Ravioli and the best Grilled Calamari I have ever had. Our server recommended a red wine that was amazing and reasonably priced. Speaking of prices, what value. We were so comfortable: the atmosphere was warm, cozy, and genuine, and the service was FANTASTIC. We will go back again and again!

We were visiting Chicago and read good things online about this restaurant. We were not disappointed. Started out with the fried ravioli and mussels marinara. I could have happily eaten fried ravioli all night! What sauce! The mussels were tender and chewable. Be warned, if you're a small group, the appetizer plate sizes are large. And the entrees are even larger! We went home with a lot of leftovers. We tried the Veal Saltimbocca, Sausage Cacciatore, and the Sicilian style lasagne. All wonderful. We want to come back to town for one of their Big Night dinners, which are held the last Tuesday of every month.

Our server was excellent, very attentive and helpful. As far as the food. We took the servers advice and tried the fried ravioli appetizer. TO DIE FOR! (not low cal) My main dish, which was chicken with portobello mushrooms, was very flavorful. Overall, I'm definitly going back. Go, you won't regert it.

Cons: noisey

The service was the seller here. We showed up on a busy Friday night sans reservtaions. Joe, the manager that night, not only opened the upstairs seating for the 2 of us, he also came up repeatedly, suggesting things, making sure we were happy, and even sat and talked with us for a good 15 minutes about life in general. Food was very good, but it's very rare to find service that personalized in Chicago these days. I wish more places were this conscientious.
