Tecalitlan has two restaurants. This restaurant, located just off the northwest corner of Chicago Ave. and Wood St. provides a more informal setting than Tecalitlan's sister restuarant Hacienda Tecalitlan.
The chips and salsa are fantastic, included almost as soon as you sit down. You can get enormous, delicious burritos or dinner plates of tacos, tostadas, and other typical Chicago-Mexican fare. Depending on the chef, things might get a little greasy, but what do you expect with the copious amounts of cheese? Meat connoiseurs will note that the La Pasaditas a few blocks away probably stuff more meat into their burritos, Tecalitlan's quality is a bit more consistent and the dining room is a step above. Parking is easy, too. I never use the lot, but it's there just in case there's a shopping frenzy on Chicago Avenue for Alcalas sidwalk sale. Tecalitlan is best for a low-key, inexpensive dinner with friends.
PROS: Consistent quality. Low-key atmosphere.
