I am really impressed with the level of service I receive. Citizen Canine is the only place in the area I trust with my dog. They seem to not only set their standards high but they actually do what they promise, unlike many other boarding/daycares I have taken my dog to. A personal touch with the owner you can tell she cares. I highly recommend them!\r\n\r\n

Our dog was skittish from previous bad experiences, but our vet at Animal Medical center recommended Citizen Canine. What a turnaround! She immediately responded well to Oscar, the groomer, and from her first haircut on, the results have been fabulous. She doesn't resist her appointments anymore, and is happy when she sees Oscar. Whatever variations in haircuts we ask for, we get. His work is artistic, professional, and best of all, he is kind and gentle with our dog. Each haircut is beautiful, she is happy, and has completely lost her anxiety about grooming. The front desk manager is also lovely to deal with. Thank you Oscar and Citizen Canine! \r\n

Re: complaint about our customer service...this is completely false. Here are the facts: This lady was not a potential client. She was parked in our loading zone drinking coffee and chatting with her friend for 35 minutes. She was asked nicely to move and was told we have live animals being dropped off and that the loading zone is for dog safety. She flat out refused to move. Wow- and you own dogs?? Really? We wrote down her license plate and called the police (We have documented proof). Some of our clients who were dropping off their dogs had to park and walk across the street with their dogs in rush hour traffic. Why would we tell a potential client to move? That doesn't make any sense. We have been in business since 1995 and our great customer service reviews speak for themselves. \r\n-Jolie Owner

The owner was kind enough to return my calls and after a brief discussion, we discovered that I've lived across the street for 10 years, I am a dog lover and owner, and I was concerned about the dog. I have no problem living near a kennel (I was here when it was it dog training establishment). I am willing to retract my review, and should advise that my intent was not to malign their business. I'm aware that some dogs suffer from extreme separation anxiety and that could well have been the problem here. Incidentally, I have visited your business; I've bought dog bowls and collars from your store. I'm glad we were able to discuss and resolve this amicably.\n\nOlga Avalos\n

While they may have more amenities than other doggy spas in the area, they have a serious problem in the customer service department! My family just moved to the city from Ohio and we were looking to find daycare service for our two adult golden labs. While we were shopping around our friends told us that we had to check out Citizen Canine. It turns out that their location was extremely convenient because my partner works on Clybourn right next to their building. Since it came so highly recommended I was SHOCKED at the reception we received when we arrived at their door. The man working that morning shooed us away before I could even explain why we were there. I was frustrated with being spoken to so rudely, and when I asked to see a manager he said that he WAS the manager, and that we needed to leave immediately. When I asked him for his name he refused to give it to me, and even had the audacity to cuss at me and tell me it was ""none of my BLEEP business"". He then threatened to call the police on me when I was trying to take down the phone number off the front window! I do not know what caused this man to have such a bad morning that he would be so unbelievably rude to a prospective client, but this whole incident turned me off to their entire operation. I will not give my hard earned money to people that treat other individuals with such disrespect. If they treated me that poorly, just imagine how they must be treating the dogs in their care! For the sake of their business I sincerely hope that man I dealt with is not in fact the manager, because managers should be more concerned with customer service and gaining new business, and not lose their cool so easily. I shared my story with my friends that recommended this place, and now they too are shopping around to find a replacement dog care center. I would encourage you all to do the same because they are not treating animals OR people with respect at Citizen Canine.

Citizen Canine is such a find! I've been taking my 14-month old, energetic black lab (Lucy) there since she was six months old. And even though I now work from home, I continue to take her 1-2 days a week so she can play and see her pals. She loves it!! She drags me down the street to get to the door in the morning and she comes home happy (smiling) and exhausted!! I love that I get a full update when I pick her up (including pics on many days) on who she played with, what she did, how she behaved, etc. And I love that, in the summer time, she spends most of the day in the pools and outside playing. Jolie, the owner, has given me great advice on everything from grooming to barking. She, Todd and their staff know Lucy and treat her as if she were one of their own pups. Citizen Canine was recommended to me by my neighbor and I've recommended it to every dog-owner I know (including my sister and best friend.) Where your pup is concerned, great care trumps cost -- with Citizen Canine, you have both -- fantastic care and packages that are the most reasonable I've come across. It's Lucy's home away from home.

Pros: Great price, no crates, pools, high staff-to-pup ratio, +++

The staff at Citizen Canine are the very best. They are professionals in every sense of the word and we never have any concerns that our dog will be well cared for. The facility is clean and well supplied. When we drop our dog off for daycare or ""camp"" when we're going on vacation, we feel as though we have left him with a member of the family. \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Pros: separate area for smaller dogs, Outdoor yard for fresh air

Cons: Can't think of one

.

Citizen Canine is a cageless facility which allows dogs to freely socialize, make friends, and play all day long. My Tyler, a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix, is a little ball of energy, and he is thrilled to spend the day there. When I take his daycare collar and leash from the cabinet, he goes wild with excitement and anticipation. When we get to the facility, he paws at the gate as if to say, ?C?mon, c?mon; hurry up!? Jolie, the proprietor, cannot get him inside fast enough. Tyler never balks at spending time at Citizen Canine and he always comes home tired. That makes me happy. Best of all, I never worry about his well-being. Everyone who works there is an animal-lover and a kind person. When I boarded Tyler there for 9 days, I did not worry about him for one minute. This is the first time I have ever felt so at ease with leaving my pet, and that?s because he loves being there so much! If your dog loves to run and play and loves the company of other dogs, if you want to feel happy (never guilty) about leaving your dog for the day or for an extended period, then Citizen Canine is the facility for you.

Jolie is a joy to work with. She remembers my dogs, and her and her staff take excellent care of my puppies. They always come home happy. I love that it is cageless, the dogs get a chance to interact with each other, and I can count on the fact that all the dogs have a wonderful disposition.

I finally decided to take a long over due vacation. I set out on my quest to find a good place to leave my dog. I toured several facilities and I felt the most comfortable with Citizen Canine. The owner gave me a complete tour of their facility and it was very clean. She was very nice and answered all of my questions! I got to the see the playgroups in session and there was adequate staff supervising the dogs and they all seemed happy. Overall, they made me feel really comfortable and the atmosphere had a really good vibe. I really like that they have separate areas for small and large dogs. My dog takes medication and they did not charge me extra for this. Whenever I called to check on my dog they always gave me a report on how he was doing, if he was eating, etc. Citizen Canine took such good care of my dog while I was away. He was returned to me smiling and happy! I now feel confident that I can take more vacations knowing that I now have a really good place to leave him. THANKS AGAIN!

I bring my dog Belle to CC 3 times a week for daycare and I also travel frequently for business. I can't say enough nice things about them. Outstanding customer service! The owner is so sweet and is there all of the time. All of the staff are so nice and helpful. My dog gets so exited to go there, so I know she loves it too. They always take the time to tell me about her day and are always very accommodating. I recommend them to all of my fellow dog lovers. They are Belle's home away from home and I know they genuinely care about her.

We took our puppy (4 1/2 months) to Citizen Canine for daycare. We have taken him to 2 other places for daycare, but wanted to check out a new place which seemed just as high quality (based on the website) and at a better price. When we picked him up, the attendent at the front counter casually commented to us saying our dog was ""a little energetic"" (um, he is a puppy) and that he was ""picked on a little by the other dogs"". \r\n\r\nWe also noticed at that time that our puppy had a cut on his ear and that it had been bleeding - which we can only assume happened while he was being ""picked on by other dogs"" as the staff offered no other explanation. In the post by management, ""pack"" mentality is mentioned. Packs can be both positive and negative if there isn't a leader (i.e. human superviser). It is especially negative if it means that the pack of dogs are allowed to pick on a puppy during unsupervised play time.\r\n\r\nObviously, accidents happen, but the fact that there was no supervision and the attendent was so uncaring and unapologetic made us upset. As mentioned, our puppy has been to 2 other daycares. Every time, we are told how well he plays with the other dogs. Additionally, our experience of his interaction with other animals and people is 100% positive. He loves everyone - dogs, people, children, even cats. He is a typical puppy. Because of this, I believe that the incident of our puppy being ""picked on"" is reflective of the atmostphere generated at Citizen Canine, not our dog. \r\n\r\nI would not recommend Citizen Canine for daycare or boarding unless the management does something to ensure proper supervision in order to protect our pets.

The review below is totally fabricated and written by a disgruntle employee who was fired. I called City search and informed them I had a former worker threaten to slander my business online before it was ever written. Since that time City search has offered to remove the review for me only If I became a paid advertiser?? Needless to say I was appalled. Open since 1995 we take great pride in our business and strive to keep our facility now in it's 14th year a warm and loving place in the heart of the city. Walk in tours are welcome anytime! We only made it as far as the require schedule interview, but it was more then enough time spent for me to realize Citizen Canine is nothing more then a doggie flop house. Despite their well versed website, I was saddened by the quality of the facility. When visiting the space where the dogs sleep, I was blasted by the spell of urine and disgusted to see 3 king size mattresses describes as dog beds The outside space is limited, and the dogs were left to play on a tile floor in a room with so supervision. Needless to say, well keep looking. Caged kenneling seems better then this.
