Before I joined Gold's Gym in Bloomington, Illinoiss, about three months ago, I asked the cost and was told it was $31 a month--and the gentleman said nothing about any additional fees. Today I received a notice that says: "The annual equipment fee is $25.00 for individual memberships and $50.00 for couple and family memberships." I'm wondering what's next. Will it be special fees for using the bathroom and getting a drink of water?

The gym has a lot of ammeneties and classes that you can take but the place is over crowded. To make it worse they offer discounts for more people to join. Good luck getting a cardio machine upstairs after 4pm or being able to use the free weights. There is no way that I would change in the locker rooms. The sauna is disgusting and the locker rooms are never cleaned. They do buy new equiptment pretty often and they have a good variety of machines.

Pros: Equiptment, Pool, Basketball Court

Cons: Locker rooms are not clean, over crowded, expensive items to buy

I've been a member of Gold's Gym for 3 years. Recently they sent me a letter telling me that they are going to charge my credit card for a new "annual new equipment fee." Knowing that I did not sign a membership agreement to pay that fee I joined another gym and called Gold's to cancel my membership. I was transferred to someone else and had to leave a message but I was clear in the message that I do not want them to ever charge my credit card again.

The next day I received a voice message that I needed to go back to their gym to fill out a membership cancellation agreement and that they will charge my card again for one last time. I called again and made it clear that they are not authorized any longer to charge to my card but that if they feel that I still owe them money then they will have to deal with that some other way. They informed me that they had just charged my card that day (The day after I told them not to, two days before I was due to pay for the next month's membership.)

As for the annual new equipment fee, I was told by a Gold's Gym employee that in my agreement it says, "this agreement does not include the annual new equipment fee." I suppose this means to them that they can add an annual fee at anytime and for any price that is up to them.

This is a nice gym to work out in. They have all the machines you would need. There is no need to even look around. There prices are great. You don't have to worry about people looking at you why you work out either. Its not to far from campus either so you can walk. You do have to be a member though.

This gym has several options relating to times open and etc.. They are also a "world known" chain. Not a bad place to work out although can be busy at times. Prices can also be high
