I came for a first time today to the store and was pleased with the things that they carry. You really can find good quality and boutique stuff for cheap and that is NOT true what the other reviews say about the stuff. The lady (the owner) was very busy today and even had to put the outdoor racks inside because it rained and still paid attention and was nice to all the customers. I found what I was looking for and could have ended with a lot more if we weren't still organizing the house we recently moved into. It is worth to go to the store. I haven't tried to sell anything so no clue about the pricing if you try to sell to them but other people (regular customers) did sell while I was there .
Thank you and keep up the good job!

I was looking for some cute outfits, shoes and toys for my 3 year old nephew and 3 month old niece. A friend recommended Bearly Used. Now it's my turn to recommend this wonderful store.

I walked in and was immediately greeted with smiles and asked how I could be helped. I said I was looking for clothes and toys and shoes for my nephew and niece (my nephew loves shoes! go figure). Anyway - they directed me to racks filled with high-quality, name-brand clothing at amazing discounts. I found a pair of running shoes in just my nephew's size. He was ecstatic when he opened the box :)

I ended up with three outfits, four puzzles, a pair of shoes, a little dress for my niece, a pair of shoes for myself (they do have some women's clothing and shoes), and the stuff was as good as brand new! This was all for under $25 dollars.

I was impressed to see the store obviously has a loyal customer base. It was packed with people buying and selling clothes and toys. I saw a beautiful tricycle and immediately called my sister to suggest she might come look at it for my nephew (once he learns to pedal).

Overall, it was a great experience. I don't know why anybody buys children's clothes new when there is such a gem of a place so close to the city!

Highly recommended. Tell your friends and family who have kids not to miss out. Fall is coming up, and I can assure you they will have great fall clothes on the racks!

I entered the shop with a positive outlook but was quickly shot down by the rude customer service as well as a lack of customer service. There was no "hello" upon entering as you get with most other stores. When I expressed my interest in a stroller that was not reachable, the owner did not offer to take the stroller down for me. I mentioned that I wanted to see the manufacture date to know when the stroller was produced but that I did not want to ruin her display by trying to get to the stroller. (all in hopes that she would offer to get it down or tell me that I could do it...much to my dismay, she did not care to do either and never offered). She seemed like she was doing me a favor when I asked to use her scissors to unbundle the complimentary chicago parent newspapers...Just not customer friendly or oriented and no hello, thank you or come again. I will take my dollars to another store who appreciates shopping customers in a depressed economy.

Pros: location

Cons: hours, prices, rudeness, bad customer service

I brought used clothes there, and the owner made me feel like dirt! She acted as if she was doing me a favor, when she's the one benefiting from sellers' castoffs! I only went there once. I have boxes and boxes of clothes in the basement, but I will have a yard sale instead. I suggest you do so as well. You'll be happier and will likely make more money, too!

I was very dissatisfied with Barely Used. First, the owner offers to buy children's clothes at a VERY LOW price. Moreover, when I brought her a stack of clothes, she started silently throwing them onto her already existing pile and without any explanation how she calculated the price. At first, she typed in $2 price (!) for each item on her calculator, but then I noticed she tried to cheat by quickly picking up a couple of items at a time and only putting $2 (!) for two items. When asked about her pricing strategy, she responded it was just Carters, although in fact the clothes were from Janie and Jack. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with her attempt to lie into my face, she responded that she did not even need the clothes and she was doing me a favor by buying them from me. What an attitude! And I thought it was part of her business to purchase used clothing from people and resell them. I promptly left the store and will never return again. I do not recommend this experience to anyone!!! Rude and unprofessional owner!

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Info and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 January 8, 2009 Release #09-086 CPSC Recall Hotline: (800) 638-2772 CPSC Media Contact: (301) 504-7908 In February 2009, new requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) take effect. Beginning February 10, 2009, children?s products cannot be sold if they contain more than 600 parts per million (ppm) total lead. Certain children?s products manufactured on or after February 10, 2009 cannot be sold if they contain more than 0.1% of certain specific phthalates or if they fail to meet new mandatory standards for toys. Under the new law, children?s products with more than 600 ppm total lead cannot lawfully be sold in the United States on or after February 10, 2009, even if they were manufactured before that date. The total lead limit drops to 300 ppm on August 14, 2009. Sellers of used children?s products, such as thrift stores and consignment stores, are not required to certify that those products meet the new lead limits, phthalates standard or new toy standards. The new safety law does not require resellers to test children?s products in inventory for compliance with the lead limit before they are sold. However, resellers cannot sell children?s products that exceed the lead limit and therefore should avoid products that are likely to have lead content, unless they have testing or other information to indicate the products being sold have less than the new limit. Those resellers that do sell products in violation of the new limits could face civil and/or criminal penalties. As of August 14, 2008, it became unlawful to sell recalled products. All resellers should check the CPSC Web site (www.cpsc.gov) for information on recalled products before taking into inventory or selling a product. The selling of recalled products also could carry civil and/or criminal penalties. Please visit the CPSC website at www.cpsc.gov for more information.

Recently, I recommended Bearly Used to a friend and after she visited this site she was concerned. I have always found the quality and price of the children's clothes and toys very good. I have purchased a few women's items as well and again the price and quality were also good. I give the store a strong recommendation and others should try it for themselves.

I never write online reviews but I am so angry at this store that I am trying to get the word out as much as possible not to shop there and do not sell your clothes there! The owner says she gives you 1/2 of what she will sell your clothes for, but I was so upset when I went in there and saw that all the clothes of mine were selling at about 3 times what she gave me for them. I even asked the person behind the counter if they gave you 1/2 of the sale price in case I was wrong and she said yes. I asked her why the things I brought in were all priced so much higher than I had been paid and she started to tell me that rent has gone up and its discretionary on what they give, etc. So basically they lie and they know they lie. I won't shop here anymore. I found a better place in Evanston called Hand Me Downs and she is nice!

Pros: close location

Cons: the are not honest business people

Maybe I've just not had any luck there (gone twice), I find a lot less at Bearly Used than I do at other area children's resale shops,Some items do seem a bit overpriced, esp. for being used. I had to return a pair of pants (good brand but noticed later bottom hems were very frayed and stained dirty!). Did not have a negative experience as did other reviewer with customer service. However, be aware the return policy is 24 hrs from purchase.

Kids' clothes are brand name and in good condition... fairly priced. But everything else is way overpriced. And the owner is absolutely HORRIBLE! She's rude to her customers and is completely unprofessional. Don't expect to be treated fairly by this owner. I won't ever go back to that store again!
