I have been going to McCormick for over 25 years. Dr. Roberts has been my vet for 3 dogs, he is an excellent veterinarian, and a great friend to my dogs. He knows when we need to see a specialist and when he can handle the situation.
My first dog started having malignant melanomas. Dr. Roberts did the surgeries skillfully and at reasonable cost. He recommended we see an oncologist. This was before the internet was a common thing. I was able to find one locally.

Community Animal Rescue Effort at Evanston animal shelter uses McCormick for veterinary care for cats and dogs.

I've been going to too many Chicago vets. They take forever and cost an arm and a leg, and they didn't help. I took my dog to 2 different vets. After charging me an arm and a leg for different tests... they didn't help. I knew my dog had something wrong but couldn't figure out what.

I took her to Dr Roberts. He did an xray and helped me to understand it was cancer, and he didn't make me go broke in the care of her. When I put her to sleep some time later, they were considerate and kind in their handling of the situation with me. It was a tough one, and they helped make it a little less tough.

Last night we had to put our family cat to sleep, due to the negligence of McCormick Animal Hospital. I highly recommend that you stay away from the veterinarians there, if you want your cat to live. We had been going there for 9 years, and last September, we knew that something was wrong with our cat. Dr. Roberts suggested that my cat had hypothyroid disease and need the $1000.00 RadioCat (should be called cat killer) procedure. After we did it, our cat was never the same. We took her back numerous times telling that she is not OK, and that there must be something we could do. Every time, we were told a lie, but we kept getting charged. As they were raking in the money, my cat was suffering from high blood pressure which caused not only for her to lose her vision, but to also have a brain hemorrhage. If Dr. Roberts really cared, he would have suggested an MRI instead, and prescribed medication to regulate her blood pressure. In the note that the doctors took, Dr. Crabbe suggested that we see a specialist in November of last year. That was also a lie, she never gave us a name and number of a specialist (trust me, we would have gone). Finally, yesterday, I had to call McCormick animal hospital for our cat??s file, where I spoke to Dr. Claus. I was obviously very emotional and frustrated that this was happening to my cat and I started to cry. Dr. Claus??s reaction was, ??You are yelling at me. Good luck to you and your cat,? and then hung up. How cruel and arrogant you McCormick Animal Hospital doctors get? If they just told us that they didn??t know what was wrong with her, we would have gone to a different clinic. They just told us that everything was fine and that we were making a big deal out of nothing. Now, we don??t have our beloved cat, a family member, and it is a big deal to us. So if you know what is good for your family, stay far away from McCormick Animal Hospital.

Well Dr. Roberts must have done something right....Hoagie, the Beagle we adopted from CARE in January of 1995 who was estimated to be approx. 6 yrs. old then, is still alive thanks to Dr. Roberts, and the subsidized heartworm treatments that he received there. (3 of them was probably more than he was expecting would be needed). I'm writing this in June of 2007. Does that make Hoagie 18 yrs. old? Well, even if it doesn't, What a lucky dog!! Hoagie makes great friends at his new vet in Rockville, Maryland, every time he goes in for something. (Last word was he has developed a malignant tumor on the back of his tongue, partially successfully removed when discovered during last teeth cleaning. But he's doing well, and we are watching it, and he is happy geriatric pooch now, that's all I can say.

Pros: He does excellent work with the shelter dog adoptions, helped us a lot w/ Hoagie.

Cons: Too many cooks in that office sometimes, at least back in those days staff seemed hectic, vet tech wrapped bandages too tight once on paw, again this was years ago.

I took my cat to this hospital once when he was very ill. The vet was very good, and the staff kept me informed of his condition even while I was at work. I felt comfortable with the vet and staff.

Super kind, gentle and truly loves animals - when my airedale had a heart attack, he dropped everything and rushed to house to try and save him!
