Pros: my eye brows

Cons: the parking i ended up paying for parking

I love Denise she is truly great at waxing eyebrows, she has a up-beat personality and really makes your eyebrows look purrfection. I

have gotten so many compliments on my eyebrows when I go to her.

Great place to go for hair cuts, color and style. They have great service and give the best head massages while they wash your hair. Great blow outs too. They also have makeup and a great spa area. Awesome place

I had a haircut here with Nina, who is very young and sweet, but just out of high school. I was surprised when I got the bill. She gave me a gloss, I did not ask for. Lots of upcharges. The funny thing is, she gave me a color that was the same as hers. It looks good on Nina because she is so young, but on me it was very unnatural. The prices was way too high for her experience and level. The cut was average. She did not listen to what I asked for, but was very sweet. I thought the hidden charges were misleading.
I had an eyebrow and bikini wax. Eyebrow was very disappointing. The shape was uneven and the ends were waxed off, so now I have to pencil it in. Very disappointing. Some people look good with penciled eyebrows, I have oily skin, so it looks greasy with fake brows.

Pros: Nina is sweet girl. they sell plastic jewlery at the front counter

Cons: avoid waxing, watch for upcharges, overpriced for what you get, front desk are rude

I had my hair cut/colored by this 18 year old there and they charged around $200 for someone who was just out of school! I got a better haircut at HAIR CUTTERY on BROADWAY!.
Then I had an eyebrow & lip wax. The first time, they burned my brows. It took about a week for the red to go away, after the skin peeled off. The second time, this girl Julie didn't know how to shape them and didn't trim them. She also waxed them too thin, very unnatural. Think Joan Crawford. The salon is nice inside. The front desk are wierd. I called the manager/owner, but she never bothered to call back. Emily (the older highly strung one at the front desk), wouldn't answer my questions.
Frankly, if your spending $25 plus tip for brows and $15 for lip waxing, which is overpriced to begin with, you would think you would get someone who knows what they are doing. Or the very least, the owner would care that you had a bad experience, and apologize. They are just right in their own minds and the customer doesn't matter. I'm taking my business elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend them at all. It's very disheartening because they seem like a professional business from the outside and all the fancy advertising. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I had to write after noticing a person who works a Salon Blue writing fake reviews. I have been a client of the salon and the spa for about 3 years now, and they had this great technician, GENEVIVRE, who quit. I got passed off, without asking, so someone whom I hight doubt is trained or licensed. . The women was fast and efficient. A little two fast and efficient. She thinned out my brows so much. I looked like Brooke Shields, now I look like Pamela Anderson except shorter. It was so bad, I had to go to another salon and get them to FI X IT!! Plus they wont tell you where the girls are licensed!!! They are so secretive and I highly doubt these people are licensed. The icing on the cake: The front staff are rude and "fake". This is not LA, but these ladies act like it. I felt so uncomfortable and horrified at the results. I would never recomment them to any of my girlfriends and I have heard two professionals in the beauty business complain about the salon and warn me. DO NOT GO!!

Cons: Scary unlicensed, untrained technicians

I had to write after noticing 2 very damaging reviews regarding Salon Blue's waxing services. I have been a client of the salon and the spa for about 7 years now, and I have never once had a bad experience. The women who work there are all highly trained, fast and efficient. I have probably seen all of their technicians for brow or bikini waxing and I feel absolutely comfortable and extremely happy with each one! I have recommended them to all of my girlfriends and have never heard anything but rave reviews. Definitely go!

1) I scheduled this waxing appointment 2 months ago, with Genevive. Apparently Genevive left and no-one bothered to call and let a 4-year client know. Is it standard practice to just switch client's to other people without asking or letting them know ahead of time?

2) I specifically told the technician I did NOT want them too thin. I said "Natural". These are no-where near natural.

3) I have never had my brows this thin, unbalanced, clear holes in them, and generally completely unprofessionally waxed.

People at work and home were shocked by how poorly, unevenly waxed my brows were, as well as the holes in them. It looks like some person who did it with an at home waxing kit!! If I wanted a cheap wax, I would have gone to a cheap salon!

I might has well have asked a blind person with duck tape to wax my brows. She gave me some sort of 1980's waxing, my eyebrows look like a comma with holes and the arc's is all wrong!! Her technique is outdated and she doesn't listen!

I have some suggestions for SALON BLUE:

Don't push people onto other technicians when they say they don't want another technician with pushy sales girls
Have your staff properly trained and updated in current trends and techniques
Don't use the words "DISAPPOINTED" when it's more like "TRAUMATIZED"

The technicianDESTROYED my beautiful brows. I had to endure the work of a poor-quality, irresponsible,
non-listening, unskilled, poorly-trained technician.

It is very upsetting to have someone ruin your eyebrows and then you have to walk around all day with holey, balding eyebrows, and feeling so upset everytime you look in the mirror.

My entire family, fiance', and friends agree, the technician, did a horrible job of destroying my beautiful brows. She needs PROFESSIONALLY trained or to receive some sort of follow-up training.

It's going to take weeks to grow back until they are anywhere near normal looking.

AVOID THIS SALON!!!!

I have been going to Laini at Salon Blue for the last 3 years and she, by far, gives the best waxes I have ever had. I usually get a brow wax and a Brazilian bikini wax and she is the best. She is fast, efficient and the least painful I have ever had. I like her a lot. My first time I went to her for a Brazilian I was very nervous and she was kind and walked me through every step. I don't feel embarrassed with her or uncomfortable. She does a great job but she gets it over with fast...especially for a process that you want done fast and efficient. I highly recommend her and she does a fantastic job. I always love my eyebrows too after she does them! Definitely the best in town!!

I had my hair colored along with a deep conditioning treatment and a gloss last Friday and I am thrilled with the results!! Let me start by saying I am a freak about my hair and this is a new salon for me. I used to go to someone in the suburbs but it was time to find someone great in the city-I live in the West Loop. I had heard great things about both Salon and Spa Blue in Lakeview and in Bucktown, and had heard Katrina was an amazing colorist. My color is beautiful and my hair has awesome shine. Everyone there was so nice and welcoming. Katrina is a lot of fun- you feel like you've known her forever. I checked out the spa upstairs as well-as I want to come back for facials because I've heard they are amazing for glowing skin- The spa looks so relaxing and it is really beautifully done. They carry awesome products and the overall vibe here is really positive and fun. I highly recommend this salon and spa and I absolutely recommend Katrina for beautiful shining color!

I visited Salon Blue, Lakeview, for the first time last week. Laini was my "waxer." I had a gift certificate to use and wanted to try a brazilian wax; I also needed an eyebrow wax. I arrived on time and waited in the spa waiting room for a while without any acknowledgment. Laini eventually greeted me and took me into the room. I explained it was my first brazilian and was a little nervous. She really didn't acknowledge that statement. Anyway, she waxed my eyebrows first and then did my brazilian. She was very fast; so fast that it made me feel uncomfortable and like I was wasting her time. Final results - my eyebrows needed plucked when I got home, they were a mess! And for $25 - it was definitely a rip off! My brazilian is ok - I don't have anything to compare it to, but I will be trying a different salon next time! A salon that doesn't make me feel rushed!

My hair has a difficult texture so I asked if they could cut it, which they said yes to. After $48 and a hair cut that looked like a bowl cut from a blind person the woman at the front desk suggested that maybe I could get a refund and that a manager would call me tomorrow morning (it was Wednes). NO call, so I called around 3:45 the next day. After explaining my situation, Emily said that she'd call me before they closed - no call. Again I called the next day 3:45 (Fri) to which I learned that Emily was gone till Tues and I would have to deal w/ it then. Finally I called and asked if anyone could tell me if I could get a refund, to which they said they never said that, and no I could not get a refund. Gentleman, don't go - no really!

I've been to "Spa" Blue several times and been impressed with Denise for both facials and waxing. In her facials, she has a great sense of touch and leaves my skin looking great! With her waxing skills, she honestly is above and beyond- great technique, fast, as painless as one can ask for. The spa environment in Lakeview is great; North Ave. location is good for waxing because you can hear the salon noise (loft-type setup) and it is distracting enough to get you through the pain.

don't ever go for the microderm "promo." as a 1st time customer, not 1st microderm svc- the process was too fast to actually be effective. the receptionist on the phone wasn't clear that it wasn't full service & thought i was getting a deal for $75. waste of time & $. plus the machine wasn't good. i've had better. too bad i was mislead; i originally called to make an appointment for the full svc. nice and cozy spa though.

I have lived in the city for a year now and have been going to Salon Blu since then. It was extremely hard letting go of my stylist in Detroit but I knew it had to be done. I have never had a bad experience there and I highly recommend it to any first time customer. My stylist is Sarah and she was easily the best I have ever had- which I never thoguht I would here myself saying again. The place is clean, comfortbale and flexable with the scheduling. I have worked with Nina as well in the past when Sarah was booked up and I also believe she is a great stylist! So to find two amazing stylist at one salon is like a dream come tru!

I have been going to Sarah for 2 years and she is the best in the city. She does take time to "know" her clients, and to be honest I feel that Sarah is very thorough in her client consultation, as well as very informative on new styles, products, and knowlegde of what will work and what will not for your hair type. I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair in my life and I have reccommended at least 10 people to Sarah. All 10 of those people are still regular clients and love Sarah as well. This women in the review below clearly has nothing else better to do with her time and probably has no sense of style whatsoever. I am a regular customer to Salon Blue and I am in there quite often and the whole experience is a good one over all as well as getting your hair cut or colored by Sarah or any of the many other talented stylists. Salon Blue and Sarah are there to make women look, and feel beautiful, as well as give you exactly what you want. Thats what they do for me every time I set foot in there. So, thank you Sarah and Salon Blue.

The salon is very welcoming and until I saw the finished product of my hair cut, I was pleasantly surprised by the salon. First of all, I asked "Sara" for a mere trim, clean up the ends and freshen up my hair cut. I left the salon with 45% less hair. Sara tried to lighten the weight of my thick hair and ended up cutting away at all my fullness and leaving me with all these short layers on top of my head. I pretty much resemble an 80's punk rocker. When you visit a new stylist they should take time to know you, give you a good cut and try reinvent your look in the future, not on your first visit. I walked in looking very different than when I left. During the appointment I even pointed out a picture on the wall that I liked and Sara said, "I could totally have that look because my hair was long enough". Well, when I left I looked absolutely nothing like the picture, her comment to me was maybe I should try hot rollers (to make the cut look bettter) and one of my back layers needs to grow out. (It was more than long enough when I got there) Thanks. Thank you very much. I came in with extremely long full hair and left butchered. I wouldn't recommend "Sara" to my worst enemy. Not to mention, after all was said and done and I was completely unsatisfied she handed me her card and rushed me out of the chair for her next client. Great customer service! Frankly, two years of experience and a couple of hair shows doesn't make one a good stylist, and for $48 you get what you pay for. Take my advise, Chicago is full of decent stylists. Stay away from the "BUTCHER".

I went in for a "gloss" and my stylist put in a hint of red promising my already copper (light brown/blonde/red) would be even more pronounced and shiny. My hair came out a very dark brown/red with absolutely no blond. I see no difference in shine. Be careful with a "gloss", it is no different than a color. My eyebrows are a completely different color from my hair, yet they did nothing! My cut is average; my stylist just haphazardly parted my hair and now I can't figure out how to part it to make my layers even. Make sure if you go to tell the stylist exactly what color your are looking for or bring in pictures!!

I am always looking for the "Spa Experience" that will make me want to return. I finally found it. Yeah. First, I tried the basics just to get a feel of the place and got a brow wax and a gloss for my hair. It only made me want more. Not only did I have great brows and hair I feel I was treated like a queen. Julie was soo so great with talking to me about skincare I went back the next week for the best facial I have ever had. Major points from me and all the compliments I recieved from my friends on my glowing skin made me feel as though the money was well spent. Thanks Salon Blue!

I saw Brenda at Salon Blue a few times. First time, she criticized what the previous stylist had done (I had recently moved to Chi and hadn't been to a salon in 3 months - I was overdue, but I had loved the cut/color when it was done). She suggested a shorter cut, more traditional hilights...I said I'd prefer longer hair and funkier color. Over the next few appointments, my hair got shorter and more soccer momish. The last time, I asked her to refresh the cut and do hilights w/a couple different colors...I walked out with an above-the-shoulder piecey bob (think Meg Ryan, like 8 years ago) and standard hilights, which Brenda assured me was more "edgy" than I thought and a lot more "me" than my previous cut. So I got the style she had recommended on my first visit, whether I wanted it or not.

This Lakeview salon is the best. The stylists are friendly and they know what they're doing. The spa upstairs is nice, but you can hear the muffled rumble of the El train behind the building. It's loud enough to be distracting if you're not fully relaxed, but the massage therapist is very good.

I'm new to Chicago, and read reviews before booking a haircut with Katrina. I walked with my "Fun New Hair" folder full of cute haircut photos, showed her what I liked, and then said, "I'm in the mood for total renovation. Do whatever you think is best." She cut my hair dry (which I liked, as it's wavy and sometimes stylists are surprised by how short it dries), recommended new color (I have a round face, and wanted to draw attention away from it), which we did, then I got makeup from amazing Krystina...the shampoo assistant was great, the receptionist was super-friendly....and while the price wasn't cheap, the whole experience was fantastic! I've never left a salon feeling as beautiful as I did on my wedding day, and this was that kind of experience. It would take a lot for me to go to anywhere else. Thanks Salon Blue!

The receptionists gave me little instructions when I walked in the door, so I felt clueless. Brenda gave me an OK cut. I later returned and she was willing to re-do it. It is still OK, nothing special. I felt that she did try to do everything possible to please me, but they don't specialize in cuts here. She did recommend some GREAT hair products though. I will probably return for highlights soon. I had the BEST facial from Allyson. It was relaxing and she was willing to talk and guide me through the process. I will return for a series of facial treatments. Can't wait to try the massage services as well.

I change my hair every couple of months and Andreanna is by far the best stylist/colorist I have ever been to. She is friendly, helpful, but not pushy, and has a great vision of what a good cut/color will look like. I believe the best advertisement for a stylist is a great cut/color and after I see her, people are always complementing me on my hair. I seriously have told dozens of people to go to Andreanna and all have been thrilled with the results- she is hip, fun and wonderfully talented at her craft. I also disagree with the statements that the front desk folks are unfriendly--- that is actually completely false. They are always helpful, outgoing and accommadating

On my first few visits, I would have given Salon/Spa Blue a 9.5. They are much friendlier than other Salons in their category, and my hair looked great.
However, after my first few visits, service declined and the price went up. My $65 single-process color went up to $83, with no explanation. When I questioned the receptionist at check-out, she shrugged and said I had to discuss it with the stylist. They don't use tickets, so the price is a sometimes unpleasant surprise when you leave. At my my final visit, the stylist left hair dye on my skin, when I asked her to remove it, she said to work on it my self. Fortunately, the shampoo ladies were too happy to help.
It's too bad, this Salon could be truly great.

My hubby and I went to Salon & Spa Blue for Massages and it was fabulous. The receptionists on the first floor were a bit standoffish, but both the massage therapists and the receptionist on the second floor were so friendly. I would definately go back again! And, we even managed to find parking - not a common occurance in that neighborhood!

I have NEVER been to a better salon and I've moved 15 times! Katrina cut and highlighted my hair and did a fabulous job!!! She listened to what I wanted, made some suggestions, and viola! The best cut I've ever had! From Rene's washing my hair to Andreana's final blow dry, I felt at ease from the moment I entered. My complentary make-up touch up by Sharon was also great! I'm new to the area and I KNOW I have found my new salon.

This place is a great expereince. The stylists are truely talented with the up to the minute styles. This is a small salon that they treat you like you are a person and a face with a name, not just a number. It is really clean, the staff could not be any nicer and it is all together a great experience. Worth a shot and everey $.

This is a great salon if you want to try something new... Stylists have a knack for knowing what works for you and what won't. However, it is very expensive and rushed -- while you are getting your hair washed, someone else is being dried, and so on... It's an efficient system, but appointments always run over because of the number of clients they try to cram into appointment times. Beware of product pushing -- it is incessant here.

I loved this salon - the atmosphere is laid back but you know you're getting the best the city has to offer. And check out the Fantasy Tan - it's amazing for special events! You'll look like you just came back from St. Tropez...

I have been going here for over ten years - Katrina the owner does my hair and she is truly an artist. I just recently was married and for a day like that you have to be with someone you trust.

I defected for a couple of years to Salon 1800, but I returned to where I know I get the most consistent quality even though the prices are a little higher.

I've had worse hairduts in my life but none for which I paid over $20 until I went to Salon Blue. The stylist (the same one who is touted so highly in the earlier postings) I saw was overbooked and indifferent and charged me full price for a quick cut. Even after I told her that the style & length would not work for me, she told me it was right. I won't go back.

After moving to Chicago, I searched for several months for a salon. I stumbled upon Salon Blue and I'm very satisfied. The stylists and staff are very friendly and the feel is unpretentious. Color is the specialty here and they do a fantastic job. Cuts are great, too--stylists listen to your input and readily suggest new, up-to-date styles. Terrific value. Parking is limited to the street, but it's easy to get here on the El. Great products and spa, too.

This is not your usual salon. Step in and let the staff take over. Katrina, owner and stylist is a wizard at what she does. I just put myself in her hands and let her go to town. They have all sorts of massages, treatments etc. You could not ask for a more relaxing down to earth atmosphere. Unlike those stuffy salons, this one has got pizzazzzzzzz.
