Pete's Petland

People literally have to be out of their mind in considering to buy a dog from here. My boyfriend and I came to the store during out lunch break and came out of there depressed as all heck. When I first entered the store, I was greeted with a pungent smell coming from the animals. I was even debating whether I wanted to see the rest of the store. The animals looked lethargic, some of them were coughing, meanwhile the very few were bouncing off the walls. You can automatically tell that these animals didn't get the adequate exercise they need. Although some of the animals were on sale, I can assure that once you buy one, there will be a high probability you will be bombarded with vet bills. My boyfriend bought his dog from petland in south elgin, and his dog ended up having a severe case of kennel cough. Even though the dog came with a guarantee for preexisting conditions, petland refused to pay him the $800 of vet bills. As for the previous comment about "If all you ppl think its SO BAD, and care SO MUCH, then why didnt you buy the animal you felt SO BAD for?"...are you kidding? In buying one of these animals, we would be supporting this pet store that we are adamantly against...along with possibly putting forth more money for vet bills for a sickly dog. Feather S - You must somehow be profiting off the sale of these horribly treated animals or you wouldn't be putting up these phony posts about how wonderful Pete's Petland is. The place stinks horribly! THAT IN ITSELF TELLS YOU THAT THE ANIMALS ARE NOT BEING PROPERLY CARED FOR! TODAY I OBSERVED - STENCH, A COCKER SPANIEL WITH A LAME BACK LEG, KITTENS WITH GUNK COMING OUT OF THEIR EYES) DOGS WITH MATTED FUR, DOGS IN CAGES WITHOUT WATER (STATE LAW SAYS ALL ANIMALS MUST HAVE ACCESS TO FRESH WATER AT ALL TIMES), THREE DOGS TO A CAGE WITHOUT ADEQUATE SPACE, 10 - 15 KITTENS TO A CAGE (NOT ENOUGH SPACE!) THE ANIMALS LOOK DIRTY AND AFTER PETTING A COUPLE OF KITTENS MY HAND HAD A DIRTY FILM ON THEM. CALL ADDISON POLICE DEPARTMENT AND REPORT THEM AFTER OBSERVING FOR YOURSELF! Ok...so my sister works here and I know first hand that she, along with everyone else who works there, work hard to accomadate all you ungratefull people who have nothing else better to do but complaine. All those employees are hard workers and trying their best to keep up with a long time family buisness. I know of many ppl who made purchases from here repeatedly and are satisfied. Including myself. If all you ppl think its SO BAD, and care SO MUCH, then why didnt you buy the animal you felt SO BAD for? Oh yea, because you dont care. Give ppl a break and shop somewhere else if you dont like it.....No ones forcing you to do anything

I have purchased 2 puppies from here and have no problems with either, I was there in the past and it was smelly, and dirty I guess but they have a girl in there managing everything now and she has been organizing things adding and taking things out and I think the store is looking great ! Please people, "DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ" go see for yourself !!! The store is improving little by little since they got a new manager ! I will purchase another dog from here I'm sure and I refer everyone I know who is looking for a dog to go here!!!

The puppies at this store never leave the cages unless they are being viewed by a customer. They stay in "until they are sold." These dogs from Iowa puppy mills. The mothers are overbred and receive little to no medical care. These dogs are kept in small cages their ENTIRE LIVES. Organizations like the ASPCA rescue these dogs. Sometimes they never are able to learn to potty outside. DO NOT BUY DOGS FROM PET STORES. You are not saving that dog! That dog will be replaced. We have to put these people out of business! We are too intelligent of a country to let such a horrid thing happen. There are reputable breeders. These people focus on one breed of dog. But please go to a shelter. There are 9,000 animals are killed everyday in shelters. These dogs are usually around $200, are neutered, microchipped, all shots are up to date, and they wont adopt out unhealthy dogs or dogs with behavioral problems. Save a shelter or rescue dog (there are MANY purebred dogs available) and save the life of that cute puppies mother. Look on youtube for puppy mills. Dont shop. Adopt!

Hi everyone that has the time and intelligence of reading a review before purchasing a dog from here! Here's the story... I moved here from California with my boyfriend in Feb. OK getting to the point I have been wanting a puppy forever i feel so lonely and what better to have a dog by your side to make you feel a little company and love. So I went to Petes and feel in love with a little Westie and when i walked in that pet store I felt like it was a pound. It was soooooo SAD.... it looks like they treat the animals bad. My story is that my boyfriend surprised me and bought me the Westie i feel in love with that week and after he purchased her they informed him that she had surgery!!! She's tooo small for her to have surgery on her tummy, and she has stitches! So i immediately went the following day to the pet store to get records of what they did to her and "suppose ably" they didn't have anything they wouldn't even give the vet that had previously done the surgery information. I will be going to the vet today to make sure nothing is wrong with her she still has stiches! My boyfriend paid almost $800.00 i dnt want to return her i already love her i just dnt want other pets and owners to go through what I am going through! Please someone needs to do something!!

I bought my schnoodle from Petes Petland in November 2008. I have lived in Addison for a long time and always would go in there. Yes the old man is a grump but the younger son and the kids working there were always nice. My dog was very healthy and I did have papers as to what breeder the dog came from. I don't know of any pet store that smells good for all of you people who wrote that the place smelled. I went into this petstore today and left with tears in my eyes. I have never seen so many sick looking miserable puppies in my life! I wish i could afford to buy all of them just to rescue them. Some people had great reviews about this place and either there friends who are trying to make them look good or they just don't care about there animals and look at dogs as nothing but a pet and not a family member. 3 of the gini pigs i saw had no hair and none of the bunnies or gini pigs had clean water. When I went in back to see the puppies it was the 1st time i have EVER walked in a petstore where the puppies weren't playing or jumping around. Not one puppy was playing. Also the smell was so horrible we had to hold our breath the entire time, don't u think it also bothers the animals? I still cant get over that out of the huge selection of puppies they had NOT 1 puppy was playing. This was the dirtiest pet store Ive ever been to. In fact I'm so disgusted that as soon as I finish this I'm reporting them to the animal cruelty society. Please people I'm not only urging you to not buy an animal from here but to also protest or do something to save these puppies!!!

I recently purchased a Schnoodle puppy from Pete's and it is sweetest, nicest and best puppy I've ever seen or owned. She was well cared for adorable, healthy and happy at Pete's Petland. The store is clean and the animals well cared for. I definitely would go back there for another pet.

I don't know if I got lucky or if it is the breed but this dog is WONDERFUL. If you are looking for a small breed I highly recommend the SCHNOODLE.

Everyone is surprised she is so mellow. She even let my 2 yr old grand daughter carry her around all day and not once did she try to get away.

I thought I could never love a dog like my dog that passed away recently, but this little girl pup is just the right medicine I needed.

I have lived in Addison all my life and I can tell you without a doubt this place is not the place you want to buy any kind of pet. First off the place is dirty, they don't care to clean it ever.Next the people that work their(and I'm referring mostly to that grumpy old man) are rude and don't care about being nice. I have memories from when i was a kid going in there to buy crickets and getting the same attitude/service ( I'm 25 now) I just went in there the other day and its still the same. Grungy,grimy,overpriced and a disgrace to the pet industry in general. DON'T EVER SUPPORT THIS PLACE.

I came in spoke to old man, he wasn't friendly but at least answered my questions. Originally when I spoke on the phone was to a girl she was extremely helpful in the search on my new puppy.

This store is very dirty with sad looking puppies. Buy a puppy here and you are supporting puppymills. The owner will not supply any information about the dogs and he charges top dollar. The five star reviewers here must be his relatives. Support rescue instead.

I was on lunch break in the area and decided to stop in Petes Petland. I have been looking for another pet for sometime now. I saw the exact same dog I was looking for. After work I decided to make another stop back just to make sure. I was greeted by an old man. Not sure if he was the owner or not. I asked to see the dog again. He was soo rude and ignorant. He would not provide me specific details about the puppy. One would think that his customer service skills would have been better but that was not the case. I asked him general questions and he responded with such an attitude. Ever see the movie Grumpy Old Men? He could have been the star actor. I have since contacted breeders and am about to purchase my puppy. I would never recommend this store to anyone or purchase anything from this petstore. And if asked where I purchased my puppy, I will tell everyone about my experience at Petes Petland.

I don't know what store the other people who wrote reviews went into, but this place has to be one of the dirtiest & smelliest stores I have ever been in. Check it out, IF YOU DARE!!! Would not recommend this place to anyone.

We bought a puppy from Pete's Petland on 1/6/07. The dog was sick from the time we got it. We took it to the vet that was referred to us by the pet store and they told us that the dog had an upper respiratory infection and a parasite, but he would get better if treated with antibiotics. However, the dog was not getting better so we took it to another vet (after the 7 day guarantee was up) this vet told us that the dog has kennel cough and it developed into pneumonia. According to the vet kennel cough takes 2-14 days to incubate. Our dog did not show signs of kennel cough until after the 7 day guarantee was up. Now we have spent tons of money on a puppy that is so sick, he may die and the pet store does not care that they sold us a sick dog. Buyers beware!!

this store is by far the best pet store i have ever been to!!!!! the employees are nice and the owner pete is great!! when i bought my puupy there just a mounth ago i wanted a miniature yorkie. They did not haggle me like most pet stores and they didn't lie to me just to sell a puppy. Not only did i ask them a lot of questions but they asked me questions, to assure that I was purchasing the right puupy for myself. That made me feel good because they cared.

PROS: very squeeky clean!!! very organized!!! a wide selection of puppys
CONS: they have a lot of reptiles and i don't like reptiles

this truly is the cutagra of all pet stores. The selection of puppies is immense and the customer service is beyond compare. From the moment one steps into this puppy paradise, the quality and prestige of this spectacular retailer is quite evident. I have never been so impressed with the time and care these people give to their puppies and the selection of fish and animal accesories is amazing. I wouldn't shop at another store.

PROS: excellent sevice, profound selection, and a very well maintained facility
CONS: almost too perfect, this place is like the puppy equivalent of heaven

Pete's has a huge selection of puppies, and all of them are so adorable. I would recommend this store to everyone. They also have fish, reptiles, bunnies, kittens, hamsters, ect.

Pete's Petstore is a small petstore mainly selling fish. They only carry freshwater fish with your common fish such as guppies, swordfish, neons etc. The day I was there, it wasn't very clean and not very organized. Suprisingly, the 2 corys I bought are still alive after 2 years. If you are looking for comman freshwater fish, check out Pete's Petstore. If you are looking for a more specialized fish or salt water fish, you would need to find another fish store. Location is at a strip mall and parking is plentiful.

We looked at the puppies here, and it was very sad. They do have alot of animals but even at a glance they don't seem to look very healthy. The shop is small, hot and very badly ventilated so the place smells..
