My favorite bakery for slices of cake (Sweet Memories in Highland Park) closed recently, and I had read that it was sort of a knock-off of Sweet Mandy Bs. So, I called Sweet Mandy Bs and was told that they usually have a yellow cake and a chocolate cake that they sell by the slice every day. So, I went on about 5 Saturdays, thinking that they would have a slice of yellow cake, and they did only once and they usually had just a few pieces of chocolate cake left. The slice that I did have was good, if they had it all the time I would go more often even though the bakery is out of my way and expensive. They always have cupcakes, which they say are made of the same batter as the cake, but of course it is not the same as having a slice of layer cake. They seem to experiment with their cakes some; around Halloween they had made this yellow cake with gummi worms cooked into it that seemed pretty unappetizing.
They seem fairly generous. Once I ordered a few cupcakes and they gave me an extra one, which was nice. Once a sales woman there offered to give me extra of something (because I had complained about them not having yellow cake slices very often) and I said, "You don't have to do that," and you know, she didn't . . .. I don't go there any more because they are too far out of my way and they too rarely have something that I want and I did try a few different things. At any rate, If you are looking for a cupcake or flourless chocolate cake, this may be the place because they always have plenty of those and they are decent. If a good slice of cake is what you're looking for, this may not be the place.

Good location in a cozy neighborhood. There is ample seating through the store/cafe to eat whatever treat you have purchased - they range from milkshakes to hot cocoa to rice krispie treats. It it like going to your grandmother's house and having all of her goodies for sale.
While most of the desserts were quite fresh, I've sampled a few old/hard cookies during my visit. Since then, I just order more popular items and haven't had a problem with freshness.

I LOVE this place! Their cupcakes are the best I have every tasted in the city. They're fluffy and sweet and melt in your mouth good. Their other treats are also very tasty, including cookies, brownies, cakes,and rice krispie treats.
The shop is very bright, whimsical and the prices are right !

Wow. I love brownies and these are some great ones. It's hard to find a place that has ready made brownies, most bakeries concentrate on cookies and cakes. This one place even had some very good ice cream. Great place to take the kids.

This is a kid friendly and casual restaurant for dessert only. Their whoopie pies, brownies, and cupcakes are wonderful.
You will also love the ice cream. They are open later than most pastry shops. Early in the morning you can get freshly brewed coffee, muffins and fresh fruit .
