I don't know what kind of a magic might have happened to those people that had positive reviews but I had the WORST SERVICE EVER just recently when I went there for a hair cut and highlights. I don't know who this guy Berj is but the owners are extremely RUDE I am not sure about their names but the guy looks like a terrorist and doesn't even know how to speak english seriously!!!! I got full head highlights that took over 4 HOURS and over $200 plus tips and I ended up walking out disappointed even after 2 layers of toner that they kept putting on my highlights to cover their disaster. I wish I read some of the reviews here before I walked into that salon. Seriously no service no professionalism and people have no idea what they are doing. I am surprised this salon is still in business. it's BAD BAD BAD and a complete RIP-OFF.... don't be fooled by the positive reviews I am pretty sure the staff and owners put those reviews themselves to boost up their rating, no joke I would expect that from a low class business like them.

Good experience. I received a great haircut from Bearj. My hair cut was so good that well after 6 weeks my hair still had great shape even though it was grown out. I was hesitant to spend the extra money, but it was worth it because I got one of the best haircuts of my life.

First off, I'm not sure what the deal is with all of these reviews. I was referred to Bearj by one of my friends who is the pickiest person I know. I got 2 cuts at that salon, first with Jystina (I think that was her name), and then July 2008 Bearj cut my hair. He was never rude. Never said a bad thing that would make me question his ethics.
All of the people b*tching about foreign languages, I go to nail salons where asian girls never speak English outside of "ok" and "thank you" and it doesn'tt bother me, nor would I write nasty reviews about that. People, get over yourselves.

The new owners renamed the salon to Glamour Salon and Spa - I just went in for a consultation about having my hair done for a wedding. I am very amazed with the time they took with me and my mom and showed us several options and didn't charge us for the consultation. I liked the ideas presented and will post a follow up review of how things turn out.

Pros: Good cut

Cons: salon just changed owners - we'll see what the diff is

first of all, i think it is extremely funny that the staff at bearj antonio salon and spa which is now "glamour" has to write their own reviews. just because they painted the place and redecorated does not mean its a completely different salon. i have also never heard of a place that says WE BUY GOLD JEWELRY, and if my boyfriend ever went there to buy me a wedding ring i would just die. seriously. they got rid of the one hairstylist gonca, she was absolutely horrible, but what about the others? i would start with a completely new staff. beth is horrible. ana is not a master colorist. the other girls there like julia and i forgot the other ones name but shes majorly russian, there all idiots. i would never go this salon

I read the reviews on this site and was a little apprehensive about going to Bearj Antonio. My cousin recommended the place because she said there was a really good colorist there named Ana. I found the location to be near my house, and when I walked in, the salon was packed. Ana greeted my very professionally, and when I told her I wanted to go blonde from my black (box dyed) hair, she explained the entire coloring process and told me we had to go gradually. We decided that we would start with highlights, so Ana got right to work. She was very attentive and didn't talk too much (like some people often do), but was nonetheless very polite and friendly. I walked out of the salon with terrific color and was extremely satisfied with the results. I highly recommend going to Ana for color. The only downside is the price ($120 for a full head), but this is comparable if not less expensive than a lot of other salons in the area.

I decided to go to Bearj after reading the reviews, because even the people who said he was arrogent said he gives great haircuts. I can deal with arrogent - I'm out of there quickly enough - but my hair stays with me! The first time I went there, Bearj looked at my hair and told me to grow it out a bit and come back in a month. I was astounded and very impressed. That's the first experience I've had with a hairdresser refusing to do what I want (and thus getting money from me) and rather doing what was right for me! When I went back after a month, Bearj gave me a haircut that seemed just okay at first, but it's been another month since then and my hair is looking fabulous (and has been for the last 2 weeks). That's the true test of a haircut - does it grow out well? And my hair was so layered and bushy before - the result of many bad haircuts - that Bearj warned me that it may take some growing out (with good cuts at regular intervals) to get it right. Not that it matters too much, but I found Bearj easy to chat with, and everyone there quite friendly. Reports that the place is dirty are simply unfounded. Makes you wonder about people's motives for posting here.

Pros: best cut I've ever had

Cons: expensive - but worth it

I read some reviews before going for my appointment with Bearj. To my defense, some reviews were positive. Now I'm guessing they are probably writing the good reviews themselves to boost their rating. It was not a good experience. Bearj was a as arrogant as most of the negative reviewers claim. His girls (shampoo girls and receptionists) kept talking to each other while taking care of me, which I found rude. When I asked for a cup of coffee-they told me they were out. They didn't even offer anything else to drink instead--for $60.00/haircut you'd think they'd be more professional. They kept pressuring me to get additional services I didn't want. I left dissapointed. Sorry to say-won't recommend this salon to any of my friends.

you'll get ripped off--too expensive and horrible attitude. Salon owner and his colorist are rude and very snobbish. They make racist remarks even with people of other ethnic groups are getting their nails done across the room. I didn't like my experience at the salon.

Walking into the salon was amazing. Everything was clean and eye-opening. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and with a smile... When I first met the colorist, Ana, she seemed very professional and ready to get to work. I explained what I had envisioned and it was as if she knew exactly what I pictured in my head. When I was brought back to the shampoo bowl, I have to admit I was nervous to see what it was like with a new colorist. Afterward Gwen had taken me for my haircut and I was really looking for something new. After her blow dry I never thought I could be happier with anything in my life. The color was perfect, as well as the cut. I would recommend this salon to everyone.

THIS IS THE WORST SALON I EVER CAME TO. THE OLD OWNER BEARJ ANTONIO HIMSELF IS SO ARROGANT, AND DISGUSTING. I COULD NOT BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW RACISIT HE IS TOO. I AM SITTING IN HIS CHAIR AND HE IS LITERALLY MAKING FUN OF JEWISH PEOPLE AND RUSSIANS AND BLACKS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. HE MADE JOKES ABOUT DIFFERENT RACES AND I THOUGHT I WAS SITTING IN A SKINHEADS CHAIR, I WAS AMAZED THAT SOMEONE WOULD EVEN HAVE THE GUTS TO SAY THE THINGS HE SAID. HE THINKS WAY TOO HIGHLY OF HIMSELF AND IS A MAJOR STORYTELLER, TRYING TO GET THROUGH ONE OF HIS HAIRCUTS IS TORTURE. HE CALLS HIMSELF THE HAIR MASTER AND MY CUT WAS HORRIBLE, WAS NOT WORTH 60.00. THEN THE GIRLS UP AT THE FRONT DESK I BELIEVE ARE ALL SLOW, ESPECIALLY THE DARK HAIR ONE WITH THE ACCENT. SHE OVERCHARGED MY BILL AND THEN ON TOP OF IT WASN'T GOING TO GIVE ME MY CHANGE. THE PLACE IS DIRTY, THE STAFF IS HORRIBLE, AND BEARJ IS JUST UNBELIEVABLE. HOW HE STAYS IN BUISNESS I HAVE NO IDEA! I WOULD NEVER TELL ANYONE TO GO TO THIS SALON. ITS THE WORST!

I read the good and the bad reviews and went to the salon anyway. Guess what...they were right. I was charged over $200.00 (plus left tip) for something that I could've gotten at haircuttery. Highly dissapointing.

I went to the salon this past weekend and was very dissapointed with the employees and with the owner. My first impression was that this salon was very well manicured. It looked pretty inside. But that does not mean that the quality of the staff is any good. I didn't like my haircut and didn't love the color. Services are extremely overpriced. I would not recommend this salon to anybody.

i personally have worked at bearj antonio salon and spa, and i dont know what these people are talking about when they say that bearj is rude or ignorant. i loved working for him, he was so much fun and one of the most caring boss's i could have ever asked for. yeah he has sarcasam and jokes a lot, and is loud, but he is fun. people take things too seriously, lighten up. he is really good hairstylist, and eddie is a great colorist. i still get my hair done there, and they hired a new wonderful colorist who is very talented, and another hairstylist. so people need to stop badmouthing the salon, they don't know the truth or what goes on behind close doors, like i do. its really also not that expensive, you get what you pay for. you want a cheap decent cut then go to hair cuttery.

I went to Bearj Antonio Salon this fall for the first time and I had an amazing experience. I cut 5 inches of my hair and I was very satisfied with the work that they do. It was the first time that I really liked my haircut. My hairstylist was very nice and caring. I haven??t heard any of the staff members speaking in another language while working with their client; they were incredibly polite and very respectful. I have finally found a hairstylist who can cut my hair exactly the way I want it!!!! The new Manager and the new owner of the salon are professional and very polite with every single one of their clients. I look forward to going back to their salon!!

i have been to Berj Antonio Salon for the first time this summer and had a truly wonderful experience and just returned for the second time with my sister for another cut and color. I was referred by a friend of mine who has been Berj??s Client for a long time and I am so grateful I finally found a salon where I can enjoy my time with a great service and wonderful staff and walk away with a smile on my face. The salon has new owners now and the new managers are at the best care not just about what excellent service you pay for, but about you as an individual. And the prices are WELL WORTH the service you get. i have read the other reviews and all but one stand to tell the truth about this excellent business. i felt it was my duty to defend the place that does truly provide a great service and caring staff. as far as the ridiculous and offensive review by some ??anonymous? people, i would venture to say that first of all I have never experienced anyone in that salon speak another language in the presence of the client and I am not even mentioning rude attitude from the owner. Let me make it clear to all that this salon has NEW OWNERS AND MANAGEMENT TEAM and is now in the hands of outstanding professionals who are dedicated to providing exceptional service to every single one who enters that business. They are bringing in more services and stylist. I am very excited for the new Facial Services that they just started providing, now I can get all my beauty needs taken care of at one place( it??s a one stop shop for all services you need). i would recommend the Berj Antonio salon and spa to anyone who ever aspired to be pampered in a friendly, talented, and professional environment.

I grew out my hair just below the shoulders and armed with a picture of Carrie from S*x in the City (where her hair is really blonde on top and dark on the bottom) went into the salon. My cut was scheduled with Bearj and color with Eddie.
The loud "Dharling" I heard at the door should've tipped me off. No straight man should ever be allowed to talk gay in public. I looked around and found an older version of one of the N'sync boys (the one with wild facial hair) sitting behind the reception desk. The wonder-man approached and did a quick head-to-toe check. He didn't like what he saw. Thanks, man. I really needed to feel like sh*t today.
So the Mizz Biatch takes me to his chair and tells me that my hair is damaged, ruined, needs extra conditioning, and is horribly uneven. Don't hold back there, mister, tell me how you REALLY feel. And why don't you add that I need to lose a few pounds, change my clothing, and change my name to something easier to pronounce.
Then the magic happened---no, that would be a lie. The magic slowly slowly slowly waltzed around me, talking in a tounge I've never heard before..armenian? georgian? khasak? I may not know his language, but this I do know: he didn't speak English and he didn't speak to ME. After 20 minutes, I tuned him out. How much can a man talk about himself, you ask? Apparently, a lot! Half an hour spent in his chair and I wanted to shoot myself.
So, then I was off to the coloring station--(it would've made more sense the other way around, but whatever. at this point I just wanted to look like SJP for my date later that night). Eddie--what a work of art!!! The ugliest creature in the salon with an ego almost matching the Shizzle (aka Bearj). But he's a good colorist, right? Hmmm..When he was done, my hair was RED on top and Black on the bottom. WHY, you ask? Because that was his vision. Oh, and for some reason I now have bangs! WHAT THE F!CK?
So, in summation, I paid $200.00 (plus tip) for the wrong color and cut.

Pros: It's close to your house if you live in Buffalo Grove

Cons: You'll pay mucho denero for attitude and horrible service

I have been having my hair cut and colored by Val who works at Bearj for many years. She is phenomenal! I would recommend her in a heartbeat! I'm 57 and she makes me look 10-15 years younger! I consistently get compliments from friends, family and coworkers. She is fabulous at color and an artist in cuts. My "hair" is grey but look a lovely summer blond - don't hesitate! Ask for Val! A girl who used to cut my hair left becuse BearJ the owner was rude to her just like all of his other staff members...So I decided to get a hair cut from a newere girl and it wasa HORRIBLE experience...First of all when she sampood my hair, she got shampoo in my eye, then when she was parting my hair she pinched my hair with a butterfly clip and didn't even know until I said something..She chopped my hair off really fast, he seemed very nerveous like she didn't know what she was doing. She also dropped her comb on the floor. She spend no time stlying my hair and didn't even use any products. Also she spoke a different language....

I get my hair colored by Eddie and I LOVE IT,,he is an amazing colorist..and he does a great job...

On another site I raved about Bearj Antonio Salon. At first, I really liked the way he cut my hair, I referred people and quickly began hearing negative responses to my referrals. That's when I began re-assessing things!

I am all about networking and helping people out so this bothered me (hearing my friends/family complaints). Upon my next appointment with Bearj I began to see what others complained about. For one, he never cuts your hair how you want it. Instead he tells you how you should wear your hair which I felt was a little sexist, to be honest. I am not a moron and I know what cut looks good for my face shape. Then, he is interrupted so often by his staff, your hair cut ends up taking two hours instead of 10-15 minutes. Ridiculous.

While I have always liked the way he cut my hair I was just CRAVING change and not the same style each time) I found his bedside manner to be rude as most people mentioned on this site. I didn't experience him speaking Armenian, but he loves to talk about how he is God's gift to women (get real, the guy who brings the carts in at Dominicks is like eye candy compared to you) and is open about having a harem of women even though he is married. Who wants to hear that? While I believe in freedom of speech, I would prefer a hair stylist with some morals.

I agree that Norma at AF across the way is a better choice. She is less expensive and very detail/customer oriented. I went to High School with her and have tried many stylists (that's how I roll) but she does a great job and I give her kudos! I would rather go to a hard-working mom who will engage in some normal conversation while cutting my hair, rather than some pompous, Vidal Sasson wanabee who is only interested in one thing: himself. Take your hard earned money elsewhere, so not worth it!

We moved to Buffalo Grove many years ago and found Bearj Antonio salon 4 years ago. Initially, we went to Bearj to get our nails done by Rita, a Russian-Armenian nail technician. She introduced us to Bearj and Eddie and we started to get our haircuts at the salon. My sister and I enjoyed the haircuts but every time the price seemed just a lot more than we wanted to pay. Last year, Rita left the salon because she got in yet another fight with Bearj. Both my sister and I stopped going to the salon because we love the way she does our nails. I've seen Bearj be verbally abusive to his employees and to several clients (I don't think they are clients anymore). Rita, like many other employees, moved on. So did we. I would not recommend this salon. Sure, Bearj does a good job. But so do many many other stylists in the area. Go to Norma at AF salon across the street--three times cheaper and better than at Bearj's. Oh, and I hate when people that do my hair don't speak English to others while taking care of me.

Pros: ok cut, good location

Cons: rude, extremely expensive, inconsiderate

I spent a little over two hours at the salon getting a haircut and partial highlights. Bearj, the owner, spoke Armenian to his staff the entire time. He, by the way, was cutting my hair. The only time he referred to me was when he told me that my hair really needed a conditioner. The rest of the salon employees take after their boss and speak whatever language they feel like at the moment. You can hear up to four different conversations in four different languages among the salon employees. Bearj's voice will be overbearing. Did I mention that he was rude? You expect a stylist to be nice to you for over $70.00/cut..but not here. He is doing YOU a favor by cutting your hair. Meanwhile, the cut isn't that great. Suprise, surprise. I came in with a picture of a haircut I had in mind. What I came out with looked NOTHING like the photo--not even remotely resembling what I asked Bearj to do--and it wasn't anything exotic-I wanted a short back and a cascade towards the face. I didn't even bother showing him the picture at the end--he wasn't listening to anything but his own voice.
His colorist Eddie is as weird as they get--he kept calling me "babe"--that's after meeting me for the first time. My boyfriend didn't like it too much. He also conversed with Bearj and several other salon employees, left without an explanation in the middle of the coloring process, and flirted with me the remainder of the time. The funny thing is--he wasn't paying any attention to what I was saying. I guess it's his way--but it isn't mine. The color did turn out O'K but the experience was overall really unsatisfactory. I splurge on cut/color once every three months and I would like to feel comfortable while getting the service. If you're in the area, go to the AF salon--it's across the street and Norma, the owner, will color/cut your hair for half the price. She'll speak ENglish the entire time too, unless you happen to speak Spanish. You'll leave happy.

I wish I could rate this salon lower than one star - it does not even deserve one star!!! Bearj Antonio, the owner, cut the back of my hair unevenly. When I went back to the salon to let him know of this horrible job, Bearj looked at my hair and said, "I can even it out for you and charge you half price." My original haircut was $60. He was going to charge me $30 for HIS mistake!!!! I then told him no way was he going to get another chance to botch up my hair. He said, "I don't even know what you are talking about." He turned his back and walked away. I cannot believe Bearj is the owner and he does not even know how to cut hair evenly. I don't understand how he got a license to cut hair in the first place. Also, he gave me a haircut/style that made me look 20 years older than my real age! Bearj obviously has no idea as to what he is doing. Plus, he charges way too much! I will never go here again.

I am a nail technician and have managed several salons in my time. So knowing that, I have had many hair styles in my time and many hair stylists. I found Bearj to be one of the 2 best hair stylists that I have ever had touch my hair.

I understand how some people could think he is arrogant but I have never seen him be abusive to his staff. If he was so abusive then there are plenty of other salons for his staff to work at and I have not seen any of them leave, of their own accord.

I would highly reccomend Bearj as a stylist and Eddie as a colorist.

Pros: FABUOLOUS hair cut

Cons: parking sometimes can be an issue because it is in a strip mall

I've been getting my haircut from Bearj for over 6 years, no one gives me a better haircut. (I am a guy). I show him how want my hair, and he gets it done. As to the comments above, he has been working with the same staff for over 6 years I've been going there. If he was so rude they wouldn't still be working there, everyone is nice and the service is great.

So I walk in to the salon expecting the service to be good and high end. The owner of the salon is some older man who thinks he is the best stylist in the world....So, the whole time he was cutting my hair he was talking about himself and being very rude to his staff, almost abusive. I felt very uncomfortable. Oh and if you do choose to go here, bring a coat! They do NOT turn on the HEAT. IT WAS FREEZING. I complained and he mumbled and looked away....EVERYBODY HAD WET HAIR AND IT WAS FREEZING. BE WARNED!!!!

I gave this salon a try and was very dissapointed. The staff is rude. I don't have a problem with foreign nationals, however, i prefer that my nail technician speaks english to other employees of the salon while doing my nails. Isn't it only polite? The "boss", Bearj, is a pretensious obnoxious a**hole. He's condosending towards clients and is incredibly rude to his staff. He also insists on speaking his language to others while taking care of english speaking clients, making them feel uncomfortable. The entire time he was cutting my hair he kept talking to Eddie, salon calorist, in Armenian. I don't speak Armenian! I don't know if they were saying how horrible my hair looks or talking about the weather but I didn't appreciate how incosiderable they both were.
Every employee of the salon thinks that they are God's present to the rest of us, but the truth is---they cut and paint and color about just the same as everyone else. Only for double the price.

I walked in expecting a high class and up to date salon and spa. Instead I ran into a man that was arrogant and rude. I visually saw him verbally abuse one of his staff. I was furious! For the money that you pay and with the owner being so haughty, definately not worth your time.
