I learned of Jedi's Garden a couple of years ago from a relative of mine who goes there from time to time. I found myself impressed with the variety of menu choices, the food was good, the portions were good, the pricing was reasonable and the deserts were devine. I live in Minnesota, but whenever I would come to visit my family in Chicago, we would almost always make our way to this restaurant.

However, I was disappointed with my last two visits here, and my experience bothered me enough to write about it. I visited the restaurant in early June with several of my relatives. The weather was a little cloudy that day and after we were seated by a window a microburst storm erupted outside. I had been in a tornado in Minnesota a couple of weeks before this and the storm upset me. It upset me so much that we changed tables to one deeper in the restaurant. I had expected someone from the waitstaff to ask us why we did this and I would have gladly explained and made sure to properly tip both servers, but this didn't happen. Both servers appeared confused and angry and while the food was good, the dining experience was not.

Last night I returned again to the restaurant, with my parents and a few other relatives to take my mother out for dinner for her birthday. It was after 8:00 pm and the restaurant was not very busy. I was hoping for a better experience this time, but I was promptly disappointed. First, my father (who is disabled), was nearly knocked down by a member of the waitstaff who was in a hurry to get somewhere. She didn't apologize and barely acknowledged either of us when this occured. I didn't want to make a scene or ruin the mood of the evening so I tried to disregard this and move on. The restaurant was not crowded at this time, but we ended up with a waitress that was not very attentive to us in my opinion. We got good service when she was around, but considering how empty the place was at this point, it was difficult to feel we were getting good service.

The food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I made sure to leave a generous tip (partially out of feeling bad about my last visit), but I immediately regretted my decison after I saw that my mother had become upset with someone at the register. You can choose your own desert from the display by the register and it looks like my niece picked out a dessert but was given a different one than what she requested. There was a man at the register (the owner or manager?) and first he appeared to ignore my mother when she was asking him about the deserts and then he was short with my niece when she asked to exchange the desert she was given for a different one. This was the last straw for my Mother and she became upset. This was the last straw for me as well and as good as the food is at Jedi's Garden, I know that I won't go there again, nor can I recommend it to anyone I know. While I always see people of color dining there, I honestly do wonder, as a person of color, if we really are still welcome at this particular restaurant. I hope that this was just a case of getting two unprofessional servers two times in a row, but I'm not willing to risk another visit to confirm this.

1. I ordered beef, but pork was prepared for me.
2. Waitress lied 3 times and assured me that it was beef not pork.
3. I wanted beef but my family already ate so I agreed to pay only for what my family and I ate, which was a salad , my husband's meal, and 2 child meals. The manager wanted me to pay for the unordered PORK anyway. I refused! Police came and solved that problem for me.
4. After the $7.00 dispute was solved, we paid for what I initially agreed to pay for before the police came....I observed A BIG HUGE ROACH crawling on the wall beneath the beautiful salt water fish tank that is located in the middle of the restaurant.....When there is one roach, that means there are really more!

Hey if they thought they could trick me into believing pork is beef, maybe the roaches were supposed to be butterflies!!!!

Overall........Poor, Poor service...Unethical practices....Unsanitary, but the fish tank and prices are good (if you don't mind roaches)

My kids always find something different to eat. My problem is that i like the whole menu and I want one of each, but since I can't, I can have low fat and tasty, meat lover and no carbs, they will cook whatever you want. Love the specials, especially the Greek specialties, and to be honest we drive-from Glen Ellyn to the South Side, because it's very cheap for an entire family. You don't want soup, fine, have salad. My kid fills up on the extras that you don't get charged for. Anyhow, I wish I could try everything on the menu, but you know, holidays and all, gotta watch the middle. Enjoyed the newly remodeled dining room.

Jedi's Garden is a good restaurant if you have people that want different things. Jedi's has a huge variety and all the food is pretty good. It is always served fast by a friendly staff. The food is filling too.

The fresh aroma of baked bread struck me as we exited our car in their spacious parking lot. We entered the restaurant and were amazed at the salt water tank filled with tropical fish and other amazing sea creatures. We were immediately acknowledged and asked for our seating preference: booth, or table. We chose a both by the other bigger saltwater tank. We opened the large menu and could not believe the selections, let alone the reasonable prices. The food was delicious and hot. The service, friendly and quick. The kids occupied themselves with crayons and paper menu provided. Before paying our bill, we had the difficult task of choosing a freshly baked dessert from a large array of options. We could not find anything displeasing with our first visit and will be back for more!!

Plentiful parking; clean bathrooms; great service; wonderful atmosphere; full liquor license; outdoor seating; great hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner; open EVERY day; children's menu; three soups made daily from scratch; over 10 specials everyday; private party room;special senior menu; fresh baked breads and desserts made on premise; what else can I say, this place has been crankin' for over 20 years if you have passed by and not stopped in, you don't know what you are missing! This is the perfect place for anything from a big family breakfast to a business luncheon with an associate, or client, to a casual dinner with a date.

Pros: Huge variety of food offerings

Usually our family does not agree on which restaurant to go to. Even if we are just considering fast food take-out we end up going to 2-3 different places. But Jedi's Garden is the one place that we all love and will usually end up for a sit down dinner.

My 7 year old son who believes that all food should be made of pizza and chicken, will even try something new here once in awhile. But his favorite thing to get is saganaki (flaming cheese)! And if you ask him where he wants to go to go out to eat, it is always Jedi's.

I like it too because being that I eat a Vegan diet, they are always willing to make food special for me and make sure that my pasta is tossed in olive oil instead of butter. My favorite dish is the pasta with sun-dried tomatoes. It sounds so simple, but tastes so good! And the husband, well he loves their patty melts the best, of all things!

The staff there is incredible too. From the busboy who clears the table, to the waitress bringing your order, to the owner who will sometimes work the cash register, you will always get a smile and a friendly word.

And if you bring the kids, they have a great kids menu that comes with crayons to color and keep them busy. Then of course as you walk out the door, don't forget the balloon! As for me, I always have to grab a carrot cake muffin before I can leave. And if you do not like muffins, don't worry! They have a large display of other wonderful bakery items to choose from.

PROS: great food, great service, fresh bakery
CONS: sometimes a full parking lot and no room
