Wine List
In the heart of Greektown, Greek Islands has remained consistently reliable and has become America's most popular Greek Restaurant. The atmosphere is fun and the service is welcoming. The menu features lamb, fresh fish and all the Greek standards, including moussaka, dolmades, spanikopita, etc. The wine list features unique wines from a small Greek estate winery. Over 20 appetizers and 55 Entrees are available. A real value and it's highly acclaimed.
Commendations are many and include Zagat's 2003, 3 Stars from Pat Bruno of the Chicago Sun-Times 8/29/03, recommended by Rachel Ray from "$40 a Day," and Best Ethnic by Playboy 4/05.
The Scene Mediterranean colors of coral and blue, white stucco walls and pale stone floors set the mood at this casual Greektown restaurant. Four large dining rooms are filled to capacity throughout the week, with servers running from pillar to post to keep up with brisk business. Dine with a big group--they'll make appropriate accommodations. Scream "Opa!" and nobody minds.
The Food Cheese is flaming everywhere you look. A recommended starter, aside from the traditional saganaki, is the taramasalata--a thick, creamy spread of fish roe, breadcrumbs, lemon juice and seasonings served with French bread. Fried calamari is lightly floured, served with a side of tangy cocktail sauce. Traditional Greek entrees abound, like the chicken riganati--a flavorful baked chicken in lemon, olive oil and herbs, served in pieces. Choose from many lamb options, like the braised lamb with egg-lemon sauce and artichokes, which is falling-off-the-bone tender and tasty.
I like them all- and you will have a blast eating in Greektown. Not only is the food delicious but they capture a spirit that I've never found at any other Greek restaurants.
You actually get authentic Greek food here. It's wonderful !

Greek Islands located in the heart of Greektown is another great ethnic Greek restaurant that we have found in Chicago. I personally love the skordalia, dolmades and grilled octopus as an appetizer. Their seafood entrees, especially the sea bass, is great too! The restaurant has great ambiance, and can definitely accommodate large groups.

Greek Islands has great food and excellent service!! Some of the best Greek food in Chicago! My family and I always go there when we're in the mood for authentic Greek dishes. Convenient Valet service or parking lot directly across the street. Friendly staff. Pleasant atmosphere.

My family likes to go out to eat for special occasions and the Greek Islands was one of our choices several times. There is vallet parking, quick and polite service, and excellent food. I would suggest the lemon chicken and the flaming cheese. It is always a must have when we go. It is a little pricey but it has great quality so its worth it.

One of the best restaurants in Greektown. Great place to take a cab from the loop and eat. I recommend the mostaccioli. Did recently get closed down for a day because of some health violations, though.

One of My Chicago Favs
By kencitadel
By far best rest in Greek Town
Service is excellent even during dinner rush on week ends
Food is flat out great, quality, taste, portions, selection, etc.
Wait staff so effecient you wonder how any rest can top
Cost of meal is same as an Outback, Fridays's but his place is better than Gibson's, Morton.s. Cap Grill in quality and tatse.
Words do not do this place justice.
You can take clients, kids, family, a date, etc to GI.
I travel and eat out every week and this is in my top ten rest list on any continent, country, city, town, etc
Fish, pork, chicken, soups, salads, especially beet salad are beyond words
This palce defines value for dollar
Pros: Fish, Pork, free valet park, salads, soups, service, wait staff Cons: desserts are blahhhhhhhhhhhh, but who cares

SOME OF THE BEST GREEK FOOD I have ever tasted1
By riddhi7
Delicious food, excellent ambience. Prices were a little high, but honestly the food was superb - I had Veggie Mousaka and I hate aubergine, but it was outstanding. My husband ordered the Spanakopita and loved it. The waiters made us feel rushed and even though previous review had said the place was baby-friendly, I defintiely did not feel that way. Our waiter, Dmitri positively scowled at the baby and did not do anything to put us at ease. However, the food, like I said, was out of this world!

Great casual for friends and family
By tnoves
My native greek friend says this is her favorite restaurant outside of Greece. I have been here twice, and can't wait for the next time. It's a beautiful restaurant, has great food, and a lively atmosphere. I would definitely recommend going with family or a group of friends. They have large tables and easily accommodate everyone. The decor is gorgeous, but not overdone at all. You feel like you're right in Europe. Tables are perfectly spaced, but it isn't necessarily romantic, but it works well as a place for a date with good conversation. Great menu and great value for what you get!
Pros: Menu, food, atmosphere Cons: Not right downtown

Big Fat Greek....
By Beefeater08
This was my 1st time to Greektown (Im from Florida) and I had read the good reviews of Greek Island. I have to say that they were correct. This is a very nice but casual restaurant. Was seated immediately. I ordered Dolmades, Tirokafteri for apps and the Village Salad with Grilled Chicken for the entree. Each of them were made to perfection. The flavors were so good that I could not help but over eat.... I ate almost everything that was put in front of me. The 2 mile walk there and back was worth every step!!!
The wait staff was a little slow but that kind of stuff does not bother me so to those that it does, slow down and enjoy life a little more.... You only get one shot so slow down and enjoy the experience. Overall I would have to say that this is a highly recommended place and this is from someone that is a pretty good cook and rather hard to please.
