Sellers and Buyers Beware

It is always a buyers beware world, but sellers beware here too! I consigned some furniture for a client. Some contemporary pieces and a great Frederick Cooper murano glass chandelier (originally $7000). I knew we wouldn't make a lot of $ with the furniture because of the age, but when I went to direct after they picked everything up, I was astonished that almost every piece of furniture was substantially damaged. Huge gouges out of the front door of a gentlemen's cabinet, all the finish and wood knocked off of a Plunkett down sofa which ended up bringing in ~$200. We should feel lucky it was also covered in white paint from the pick up somehow. The chandelier was hanging up with one arm broken and hanging by the wiring. They "fixed" this by chipping the broken glass out of the base and gluing the broken arm back in. It was 2 inches shorter than the other 5. They even somehow lost the shades during the process. That incredible chandelier got $200 also. This is the only piece they didn't keep their percentage of the sale even though they cost my client any payoff. They did credit my client the $100 for the pick up, what a guy!!
