Think three times before you sell your valuables here. I consigned a client's leftovers when we moved her to her new home. Some contemporary, so I knew we would not be making a large amount of money. However, between the pick up at the house and the sale, at least 75% of the furniture had substantial damage. Plunkett sofas had wood and finish knocked off of every wood surface, a murano glass chandelier had an arm hanging by the wiring (we go a whole $200 for that!). Their fix for the chandelier was a simple glue first, then they sent it to have it repaired, on their dime. What ended up was a $7000 Frederick Cooper murano glass chandelier had one arm 2 inches lower than the other 5. They even lost the 6 shades for it. Now, I picked up the check, by the way, they still kept their percentages out of the sales. They knocked off the entire $100 pick-up fee, what generous guys, the completely LOST a leather upholstered bed!!!! Truly unbelievable.\r\n\r\nTake home message, be caareful. The chandelier you are buying may be held together by fishing line you won't see until you see the arms fall off. The arms of that set of chairs you like might be covered in brown magic marker!

It is always a buyers beware world, but sellers beware here too! I consigned some furniture for a client. Some contemporary pieces and a great Frederick Cooper murano glass chandelier (originally $7000). I knew we wouldn't make a lot of $ with the furniture because of the age, but when I went to direct after they picked everything up, I was astonished that almost every piece of furniture was substantially damaged. Huge gouges out of the front door of a gentlemen's cabinet, all the finish and wood knocked off of a Plunkett down sofa which ended up bringing in ~$200. We should feel lucky it was also covered in white paint from the pick up somehow. The chandelier was hanging up with one arm broken and hanging by the wiring. They "fixed" this by chipping the broken glass out of the base and gluing the broken arm back in. It was 2 inches shorter than the other 5. They even somehow lost the shades during the process. That incredible chandelier got $200 also. This is the only piece they didn't keep their percentage of the sale even though they cost my client any payoff. They did credit my client the $100 for the pick up, what a guy!!

This auction house is well worth looking into or just stopping by on auction day.I have actually bought several items from this auction house. They have a main room with all the items that are scheduled to be auctioned but they also have 2 side rooms with second hand things that are absolutely for sale.I needed dressers for my kids as i was sick of the put-together type of furniture that falls apart.I found a total of two long dressers on 2 seperate occasions and got them for a song.

Several times I've gone been to this store and bought several of their antique pieces and was pleased with my purchases. They have wide variety of stuff to buy toys, silver ,furniture etc. The staff were friendly and helpful. The prices are a bit higher than other places, but I found unique items I was looking for so it was worth it to me. There was plenty of parking available on the street.

Auctions are not necessarily bargains, but they can be. This place buys large and small estates and holds auctions about twice a month. You get to preview the items on sale before the auction. They not only have quality furniture and ofjets d'art, but quite often feature unique and one of a kind custom items. Sign up for their email newsleter on their website at http://www.directauction.com. Whether you are buying or selling, this place is a must!
