I purchased a beagle from this place and a few days later, the puppy developed severe vomitting and diarheea. At first, I thought it was due to the change in food, but the puppy suddenly lost its appettite and overall looked very miserable. I planned on taking him to the vet on Monday, but it started losing its balance, so I took the pup to a 24 hour emergency clinic on Saturday night. The puppy spent the night at the clinic hooked up to an IV. It had parvo, due to the fact that the store administered vaccines too close to each other (merely 8 days apart). In fact, I noticed a bump on the puppy's back where the vaccine was administered after he started getting sick. The bump was not there when I purchased the dog, which means that he got the vaccine right before I took him home. The store owner called and stated that she will not cover the charges, as the 24 clinic was not in the service contract and that there was no need to take the puppy to an emergency clinic, as it was "only 10% dehydrated". I drove the dog to another clinic, that was in the contract, and it spent several days there, undergoing intensive care. There was a chance that he may not pull through, as the virus seemed to have a devastating effect on the little guy. After many unpleasant calls, the owner finally covered the charges. I will never go back to purchase another puppy from this place. I feel sorry for all the dogs that sit in glass cages, displayed as if they were in a gallery. This store does not care about the wellbeing of their animals.

I had been looking for a dachshund puppy for quite some time - a male, red shorthair. I was having a hard time finding one and have to admit was rather impatient and didn't want to wait for a litter to be born at a nearby breeder. I found the pet I was looking for at HIP and was SO excited to bring home my new puppy.
The day I brought him home (October 25, 2008-an early birthday gift) I noticed he was extremely lethargic. When he sneezed green fluid came from his nose. Something didn't seem right. Since a free vet exam was included in his price I took him first thing the next morning. They alerted me that he was very ill, needed to be hospitalized immediately and had an upper respiratory infection. He was given IV fluids, two antibiotics, nebulizing treatments and nose drops for two days in the hospital. He continued on antibiotics for another two weeks after he came home. The vet also noticed an umbilical hernia on his stomach accompanied by a scar. It looks like a botched hernia removal. It breaks my heart to think of what my puppy has gone through, though I'll never know exactly.
He is now 12 weeks old and has had skin problems, still can be quite lethargic and he has a lump under his ribcage. I'm terrified for my puppy every day. I have no idea if he will remain somewhat healthy or if I will lose him early. I'm embarassed that I didn't listen to these reviews. I figured he would be fine, the store looked clean, etc. I made an uninformed decision and although I adore my puppy I live in fear every day that he will take a turn for the worst.
I have sworn to myself that the next time I get a dog it will be a shelter puppy or from a breeder. I can't emotionally go through something like this again, and I don't want anyone else to. I know their pets are cute and puppy mill puppies DO need good homes, but spare yourself the heartbreak I have had to go through.

They get all their dogs from puppy mills. Just google them and Steve Kruse one of their main breeders.

Greetings!!!

Happiness Is Pets is a puppy store in Illinois that receives their dogs from puppy mills. Personally, I have had two dogs both die under the age of 3 years due to issues that started as a puppy. I decided the only way I could fight it was to spread the word...

I've had two dogs from this store - one Boxer puppy and one Rottweiler. They both passed away less than 3 years old, both with complications that started during puppy years. Although it looks clean, and the stores look good - DON'T BUY A DOG FROM HAPPINESS IS PETS.

They get their dogs from Puppy Mills and it is documented online.

I have purchased 2 dogs from Happiness is Pets (this location). Since then I have spent over $11,000 on medical bills. 1 dog had one hip replacement due to hip dysplasia. His other hip shows signs of of dysplasia but is so far ok. The other dog had to have both knees replaced. They offered me $300 for each or replace the dogs with a new one. Never would I do so. I took these dogs into my life and can not give them up for the world. I would strongly suggest getting a dog from a breader.
