Bard Optical made glasses for me that were so defective as a result of poor workmanship, that they caused me two years of double vision and migraine headaches. I had numerous tests including an MRI of my brain to make sure that there was not a tumor that was causing my double vision and headaches.

Finally my ophthalmologist tested my glasses and found that the cause of these significant problems was the glasses. These glasses, which were made by Bard Optical's own lab, had more than 4 times the recommended amount of base down prism in my left eye and more than 5 times the recommended amount of base down prism (set by the American Standards Institute ANSI) in my left eye. This created a vertical imbalance that my brain and the muscles of my eyes could not overcome and the result was double vision and migraine headaches. The standards set by the ANSI have been established for our protection and should be followed by all optical providers.

When I contacted Diana J, Hall, owner of Bard Optical, she responded with a letter in which she stated that the prism was normal in lenses of this nature and that Bard Optical's services met the applicable standard of care. In my opinion, their standard of care is not what it should be and is definitely outside the ANSI standards. When I had new glasses made at a different optical provider, the migraine headaches and double vision disappeared. At that point, there was not a doubt in my mind that it was the glasses that caused me years of suffering and almost $10,000.00 in medical expenses.

Bard Optical is the assumed name of J.A.K Enterprises, Inc. When I filed a small claims case against Diana J. Hall and Bard Optical the case was dismissed because the proper name is J.A. K. Enterprises, Inc. They won on a technicality even though both Bard Optical and J.A.K. Enterprises, Inc. have the same address and Diana J. Hall is the President of both companies.

I hope that by reading this you will be armed with the knowledge to protect yourself and the people you love.

I signed up for an appointment at Bard Optical in Champaign after seeing an ad on TV for their special -- eye exam and two pairs of glasses for $129. Being a grad student on a tight budget it was hard to pass up such a deal! I was a little

I just had an eye exam at the Bard Champaign office a few weeks ago. There was a young female doctor that was very professional and friendly. They took my insurance and overall I was happy with my visit.

I think some of the reviews I read here are unfair so I thought I would add my own. The doctor I saw at Bard Optical was an older gentlemen who maybe had some difficulty getting around, but he was BY NO MEANS "lewd" or unprofessional. He was a sweet, caring, patient man who used humor to put patients at ease. Maybe he is old fashioned, but if you ask me, that's a selling point. He gave me a prescription that was not too far off from what I'd had before (given to me by a way-too-expensive doctor on the North Shore of Chicago).

The staff out front were fun and made the process of trying on frames a hoot. I found four or so frames that I loved and I'd been all over town before this and couldn't find even one pair I liked anywhere else. They even held them for me so I could bring in my boyfriend and decide later.

You'd be missing out if you passed on Bard Optical. I've recommended them to my friends and family. I got free prescription sunglasses with my order and after my insurance, my new glasses, sunglasses, contact lenses, and eye exam all came to only $50.00.

The whole experience was disappointing. The doctor has no concern for the wellness of his patients. The people in the office just wanted to sell you a pair of glasses, regardless whether the glasses is necessary. Been there once and that is enough for the rest of my life!

They diagnosed my daughter with a lazy eye and prescribed glasses with a major correction. When questioning this I was told that we needed to trust them and not seek a second opinion. Thank God we did, she is fine, nothing wrong with her AT ALL. She doesn't need glasses, she doesn't need anything. The ophthalmologist said she is just fine with no vision issues at all. This is at the office in East Peoria, and also the head Dr. of Bard that said she needs glasses and has a lazy eye.

I realize what many people have written here may be "assessments". However, even though the doctor is older and clearly has a physical "problem" I would never call him shaky or anything else. He is a very patient and caring person. His comments may seem out of place and not professional to many people, but I am sure that if you took comments like his with a grain of salt and realized that he is just a jester, you would have a much better experience. Again, I understand where some people may come from about him, but having an open mind might help your first visit be more "comfortable" for someone who is uptight. I did notice a comment about the dilation, and I can tell you that I have never had a problem with that. Maybe you personally have more light sensitive eyes than others. I have already light sensitive eyes and have to wait extra long anyway. Maybe that is where the difference is, but I find NOTHING wrong with the doctor or his practice. Professionalism is a relative term. Perhaps if others enjoyed working with people they would see that this doctor is just trying to make his day and your visit more enjoyable by cracking jokes as he works. He has always taken care of me and my eyes. They have a new receptionist from the last time I was there so I have no way of making a statement about that. But I do recommend this facility.

My kids and I went their to get glasses for all 4 of us. Next week, we have an appointment to get a new exam somewhere else. I can see better going without the glasses that he gave me and I have 20/400 vision. The Doctor was old and shaky (which didn't bother me), but he also kept asking me to tell him a dirty joke and when I asked him what my vision was, his response was, "Crap/Crap" (except for he used the sh_t words). I thought that was very unprofessional and being a Christian women, didn't appreciate the fact of his foul language use. This is not a place that I would take my family ever again.

I had a coupon in my earnings statement so I thought I would give them a try. I wouldn't go there a second time. Female assistants were ok but the Optometrist was pretty lewd and unprofessional.
He was pretty shaky and I'm not sure now how accurate his assessment was!

The optometrist there is old school and uses strong dilation for eye exams. I couldn't see to drive home right away because my dilated eyes were so sensitive to light. I went shopping for 2 hours hoping my light sensitivity would go away and still had to squint all the way home wearing sunglasses (I live about 50 miles away). I couldn't even see properly enough to pick out my frames...I also couldn't see the prices. Sham or just an old-fashioned doc? I'm not sure...but I'm still curious what my new frames will look like when I pick them up next week.

I went with my friend to get her eyes examed here and to pick out a pair of glasses. The optomotrist was incredibly unprofessional and made remarks that made my friend feel very uncomfortable. He was an older guy and he was basically hitting on a college girl. The receptionist wasn't much better. She was incredibly condescending and rude to us, and they ripped my friend off, I think because we were college students and they assumed we did not know any better. I do not recommend this place because the service is horrible and the prices and selection aren't that great either.
