I took my maltese in to this store to be groomed. I told the gentleman at the counter that I wanted him cut short/shaved (I knew he was matted) and that I wanted his face and his ears short like a puppy cut but NOT shaved. I made it very clear that I did NOT want his face shaved. I also asked for his ears to be cut quite a bit shorter than they were. When I picked him up, his face had been completely shaved, and his ears were the same length. I asked the girl at the counter if his face was matted because this was not what I asked for. She replied "Oh I really don't know" and dismissed me. I know that it was not matted because I had thoroughly brushed him and checked him before leaving. I came back with the dog a few minutes later and asked the same gentleman I originally spoke with to speak with a manager, and he said she had already left. A lady proceeded to walk up and ask me questions. I have no idea who she was because she did not identify herself. I explained the situation, and she asked the gentleman if he had indeed told my specific instructions to the groomer and he said yes. She then said that they shave malteses faces as part of the puppy cut. I'm sorry but I have NEVER in my life seen a maltese with his face shaved! I have in fact heard other groomers say that they NEVER shave a malteses faced unless asked specifically by the owner. If my instructions to the groomer were confusing then I should have been called and asked to clarify. I told the lady I spoke with that I will not bring him back and she replied "that's your perogative." She also said that every groomer's definition of "puppy cut" is different. I googled pictures of maltese puppy cut to make sure before I went that there would be no problem, and I never saw one with a shaved face. I have had other groomers give him a puppy cut as well, and again he was never shaved. This is no way to do business! I noticed later that he had a few bloody spots on his legs where he was matted. I feel that a "professional" groomer would have called and informed me that he was so badly matted and asked what I wanted to do. If it was an accident, I should have been informed as well. I feel I should have at least been offered a free groom next time, done the correct way. However, the lady did absolutely nothing but watch me walk out of the store. I will NEVER take my pet back to this place.
