This is a truly family friendly restaurant early in the evening. The food is great, and there is plenty of it on the plate. You won't go hungry. But the best part of Fernando's are the margaritas. The top shelf ones are the best! And don't forget to pet the stuffed burro on the way out. Fun, but a little creepy after a few stiff margaritas!

We love this place. We are in at least once a week. The staff is friendly and fun. It can be very crowded on weekend nights, but this cheap and good mexican food is worth the wait for a fun night out. We like the queso and sonora chicken.

My friends and I have been going here since right after we all moved back home after college. Now my husband and I take our kids. Family friendly or you can sit in the bar a watch a game. The margartitas are strong and GOOD. I do always warn newbies to slow down and feel one before ordering more, lol...The fajitas are good and so are the quesadillas. My husband enjoys several fo the chicken dishes. Great chips and salsa and PLENTY of it! It is great for groups and yes, there are lots of loud people but if you want to bring kids and you go early it is never a problem. Inwell over a decade we have never waited longer than 30 minutes for a table on a Friday ro Saturday night. No wait usually on the weeknights!

Great mexican food. More than "Burritos as Big as your Head". The tortilla soup is great and so is the Sonora (?) Chicken. Good place to bring kids because they give crayons/coloring book, don't mind the mess and noise and there is lots of room.

just ok. the margaritas are strong (which is normally awesome, but i like to actually drink a margarita, not just get a headache after one glass), and the food is typical mexican faire, but without any originality. it seems to cater to large groups and frat boys who get their culture fill of the day by posing with the stuffed donkey in the bar area. it's loud, the wait is always over and hour, and the waiters seem stressed and keep waiting for you to leave so they can bring in the next people.

This is the best Mexican food in the city. It seems like all other Mexican places in Chicago are trying way to hard to be coolest new Mexicano-Neuvo. This is just great standard Mexican. It's just a block off the Paulina Brown Line stop. The Margarita's are strong. The Chorizo is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

A family owned & run restaurant that is just wonderful. I moved in the neighborhood the same year that Fernandos opened and it has been a wonderful friendship! On any evening 3 generations of ages are enjoying Fernandos. Carmen is the best! A Mom to all and always ready with a hug and Fernando with a big smile and awesome Margarita!

I stop at this spot at least once a week to pick up chips and salsa. It is by far the best I've found. Their guacamole is fresh and wonderful with their warmed tortilla chips. My favorite dish is the Chicken Chichen Itza, but I'm also quite fond of their enchiladas. They have fabulous margaritas, but be careful, they pack quite a punch. The staff is wonderful and greet me by name now that I've become a regular. It's a great place to watch a late game on a Saturday. The only down side is that they don't open until 3:30.

I do not think there are words to describe how much I LOVE this restaurant! You HAVE to try the queso fundido with chorizo - served with warm tortillas, its an awesome starter. Also order up a pitcher of Three G's margaritas. The pitcher has 5 servings, but costs $1 less than 4 separate margaritas. My favorite entree is the Chicken Chichen Itza, but just about anything you order will be wonderful. The service at Fernando's is also a 10 - attentive, friendly, and fun, and my order has been right every time. All my friends love going here and even request going there when they come into town. A great find that I recommend to all!

while the mexican food here is fine for standard mexican-american fare, they have a rack of ribs that has a chipotle-pepper based sauce that is not only delicious but very tender. chips are plentiful and service is good. place tends to be very busy and can get overly noisy when sports events are on. reservations help!
