So far, so good. I went there because the last optometrist I went to put me in single vision lenses, instead of the bifocals I needed, and then claimed I could see 20/20, when I clearly could not. Dr. Masters accurately diagnosed the problem and put me in a good prescription. I brought my mother to him. She had the same positive experience. The staff, Caryn and others, seem pretty knowledgeable. I have an appointment tomorrow to check on my prescription. I anticipate a positive experience.

At first I had an issue with the brand that I was prescribed, but Caryn got a hold of me and the matter was quickly settled. If you have any issues, ask for her.

Dear insiders,
To give you a background on this situation, let me start by saying that we spent over an hour with this patient examining him, looking up his Spectera insurance, and explaining his benefits to him. We most certainly completed our due dilligence by providing as much customer service as possible.
After the exam he told us he wanted new lenses in his old frame and that he wanted it turned around the same day. With Spectera insurance, this request is only possible if the patient agrees to pay out of pocket using our private lab. Spectera will NOT reimburst our lab for services. We explained this to him and he agreed to use our lab. So, we went ahead with the work and turned the glasses around in an hour. He picked them up and was happy with the work and prescription.
Then a few days later he called us demanding we use the Spectera lab. We agreed with the patient and asked him to return with the made product so that we may take back our lenses and send his frame to the Spectera lab for work. If we allowed him to keep our lenses without payment we would have essentially given away our product because Spectera would never had paid us for them.
Of course Sam did not want to send his frame to the Spectera lab even though he wanted to use the Spectera lab. Its very confusing. We and Spectera did not know how to fullfill his demand. We do our best to accomodate patient requests, however when those requests are truely impossible we are left in a very precarious position.
Please see our positive responses on Yelp.com especially from "Nerdlinger", she is highly rated for her reviews and has given us a good one, among many from other Yelpers.
We hope this message will have given you some background information.
In addition, all the patients who volunteered to take our customer service satisfaction survey have said that they were on some level satisfied with our doctor, staff, and merchandise. You can view the survey on our website www.superioreyecare.biz.
Please do not hesitate to call or visit us if you should have any questions.
Thank you,
Jack

Dear Reader:
I recommend you avoid this vendor. I went to them as they are listed as a provider in with my insurance company. The sales help was pleasant enough, however they are eager (very eager) to swipe your credit card to pay for your frames and lenses while circumventing their due diligence as representatives of an insurance provider. They slick willy-ied me out of proper coverage by sending my glasses for processing at their own labs versus sending them to the providers labs. Anyway- in by passing my provider- I ended up paying top dollar for my glasses.
I would advise the cautious consumer against these people, they are not as ethical or up front as they should be.
Thank you.

The following is a response to several reviewers, which we hope will be helpful to you. We have been in business for over 22 years and have taken pride in offering high quality, fast service at low prices. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to visit our website at www.superioreyecare.biz or call us at (773) 525 - 1601.
(1) Rude Sales: Everyone in the industry knows that all trial lenses are free. It is impossible for us to find someone's used lens to be tried by our patients. All trial lenses are free and easily accessible. Why would be go through that trouble to fit a patient? No one in our profession is doing that and nor would we.
(2) From a professional: This particular customer verbally requested us to sell her Ciba "night and day" contacts, which has a tremendous amount of restrictions on use. It is a lens that patients sleep in for extended periods of time. In fact, infections have been reported and users must be very careful under the supervision of a doctor. We told her that we felt uncomfortable selling her these contacts without her new Doctor's assurance and valid prescription. If we did this we would be breaking the law. We do respect her Doctor's qualification and share her viewpoint; however, we never received her Doctor's consent to fit her with Ciba "Night and Day". According to the manufacture's literature the doctor must be committed to following up on the patient. We are concerned with our patient's well being rather than making money. We stand firm on our policy of patient eye health coming first.
(3) M.C.J: This patient asked us for a written estimate on eye wear products and she submitted this estimate to a charity agency. Then a month later a check was issued to her and superior eye care, she brought the check over and we filled the prescription according to her request. After we satisfied her eye care needs she came back about a month later and attempted to get a refund from us, I personally checked her record and told her that the refund check must be returned to the charity agency, since they paid for it. In addition, the reason for the refund was not clear. She filed a complaint to the Attorney General's office, City of Chicago, and the BBB all of whom rejected her claims. She then proceeded to threaten us that if she did not get her refund she'd smear our name. Please feel free to check with the BBB for further details.
We don't believe it is right to take advantage on a charity's limited funds. We donate to the Salvation Army every year and know that these organizations do not have very much to spread around to those who need it.

have been comming to Superior for about 10 years now and have always been really happy with the service and the products that I have purchased (lenses, frames, contacts, exams) over the years. I am truly shocked at what some people have said and am writing this review to let people know that I have had a wonderful experience with superior in the past 10 years I have been with them. Here is what I know:
(1) The doctor, he is older and a little strange, but he has always given me a thorough exam that other doctors have not. I went to a for eyes once and was rushed out of the exam room. That Doctor spent about 15 minuted with me. On the other hand, Dr. Masters at superior has always spent about 30 to 40 minutes with me explaining my exam results, checking to make sure the prescription came out right etc... However, he's a little socially inept and I think he gives off the wrong impression when he trys to make small talk, which is where he may creep people out. However, I figure that I'm paying a small price about $40 for an exam that's thorough but comes with a doctor who likes to talk.
(2) The contact special they have is AWESOME especially for people on a tight budget. It costs $20 for a six month supply of contacts with a purchase of a contacts exam which is $80 total $100 for the whole shebang. The last reviewer I believe was demanding more than the purchase price of the contacts ($20) which is kinda weird.
(3) The sales ladies in the front did explain to me that if I overwore my contacts I would develop what they called dry eye. There's a technical term that escapes me at the moment. Anywho, she showed me a magazine written for Doctors with the gross medical pictures and all. I do not think she was trying to scare me, because that dry eye reaction has happend to me before. I think the sales staff is required to inform people of this problem associated with contacts. So again, I am not sure why the last reviewer thinks that Superior is making that up...it happened to me.
(4) The frame selection is really good. From what I have learned from Karen (the owners daughter) they spend a lot of time renewing their styles. She tells me they have new stuff comming in each month. So nothing ever really goes on sale, just new stuff streams in.
(5) I have purchased 4 glasses and numerous contacts from Superior, they've always been able to make them on the spot. I've always been able to see out of them. And everytime I get a new pair someone complements me.
All in all, I have no problem with Superior and would hope that you'd have a good experience there as well.
By the way, I can not believe that guy can say such nasty things about their little dog. Its so cute. They have a little female black and white shitzu that sits on "her" chair. I have seen her get fussy if someone's sitting on it. They keep her clean and well kept, she even has little bows in her hair! I personally look foward to petting their dog when I go in and think the last guy needs to take it easy, so much anger will likely give him health problems.

Walking in to this facility, you almost want to have a stash of hand sanitizer and disinfectant in tow. It's dingy and unsanitary...they even have a dog that sits there all day long tied to a chair. (Great, for someone who has severe allergies.) It was then that I should have walked out and found a more reputable establishment.
I was very uncomfortable by their optometrist because he was bizarre and condescending. I have been wearing glasses for more than 15 years and the way he was breathing on me during the exam was NOT normal. They also tried to scare me into getting glasses by saying I would develop corneal cysts...something I have NEVER been warned of and do not believe they would know better.
Additionally, they only carry a "no name", thick, garbage brand of contacts in store which they fit you for. It's a monthly lens. Ok, that's fine, except when at the end of a month of using the lenses, they scratched my cornea and I went to find a better lens, I was told that since it had been 30 days, I would have to PAY ALL OVER AGAIN FOR ANOTHER FITTING. It was a MONTHLY lens. It would take about a month (in some cases) to determine you didn't like them! The salespeople were rude...ESPECIALLY the owner. I tried to exchange the 6 month supply of crappy "Definition" contacts and all I could get was a $20 in-store credit. A lot of good that credit will do considering I am taking my business elsewhere.
Instead, I took my prescription, went to Pearl Vision and they were MORTIFIED by the level of service I received. A 30-day return policy is atypical--unless you already know your business is horrible and your products are garbage.
SAVE YOUR MONEY...FIND SOMEWHERE BETTER.

In trying to assist a patient who was attempting to escape the nightmare that is Superior Eye Care's "service" I realized how glad I was not to have been a patient of theirs, personally.
I am an optician at an eye care clinic and boutique downtown. My patient, who was returning to us after her bad experience with Superior, decided to do what any right-minded consumer would in her shoes and take her business elsewhere--to us. Let me tell you, trying to obtain her valid, written contact and glasses Rx's was a nightmare for me as well! For some absurd reason in order to fill her Rx, they demanded that our Doctor, who is extremely competent at fitting contacts, write them a gurantee that she would not get an infection. For anyone who works in insurance or medicine, you can close your mounths. Did they actually think that this was acceptable/possible?????
Patients!! Please report poor service to your managed vision care providers and insurance companies if you have a legitimate complaint. These complaints go on their record each year when they go up for the renewal of their contracts with the insurance providers. If they lose their contract with a provider they lose business and they lose money.
Do your opticians a favor. ;)

I have never, ever been treated so rudely by anyone in a business setting, especially by a business owner. Mr. Shaws inference that I was somehow trying to get something for nothing or conning him & his insensitive remarks about having cancer were nothing short of appalling! Additionally, he taunted me to go right ahead & complain to whomever, go to the media, &/or retain an attorney because he would welcome the publicity, especially since he has a 5-star rating from the Better Business Bureau [which, of course, he does not!].
An apology from Mr. Shaw for his rude & insulting treatment would be appreciated, but this will probably not be forthcoming, so I will not even pursue that!
THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE IS I AM UNABLE TO VIEW A PC MONITOR, READ, OR SEE PROPERLY WITH THE EYEGLASSES MANUFACTURED BY SUPERIOR EYE CARE! Decisions that were made for components included in the lenses were made with the professional guidance provided me by Mr. Jack Shaw. He stated that I knew what I had ordered & that is simply not the case given that he misrepresented the super high feature & the need for the progressive feature. His practice is evidently to automatically include various features to assure his profit margin --- case in point, the $90 fee for thinner lenses. Given that I was paying for his expertise, his failure to inform me that I would not be able to read without the progressive feature was a major omission & would be akin to malpractice!

I had a serious problem, I lost my only pair of glasses and I had to go out of town on business the next day. My prescription has always been complicated, so I don't ever expect to get same day service...but i was proven wrong! At this shop apparently they have every type of lense in stock, so they were able to make me a pair of glasses on the spot. It was great. I was so happy and satisfied, because i was able to find a nice pair at a good price (i wasn't looking for anything fancy) and get it the same day. Not bad for my first experience at this store.

Great place to go to get an eye exam done or to get eye glasses or contacts. They have a great selection of frames here and everything is really trendy. Their frames are a bit high priced, but they are of great quality. The opticians here are really nice too!
