A wonderful experience after having visited a not-so-friendly facility in the past. We will definitely be back.

Most doctors here are not very knowledgeable and don't pay enough attention to what they're doing. Yet based on their prices you would think they should be the best of the best.

I took my ferret in for major intestinal problems that turned out to be life threatening. I explained all the important details to the doctor, including symptoms and that she interacted with another strange ferret a few days earlier. Well to make a long story short, they transferred my ferret to a different doctor each day. One of the doctors said she must have swallowed something that was causing an obstruction in the stomach. I asked if its possible that she caught a virus from the other ferret, and she said she didn't know she interacted with another ferret because she must not have read all the details of her chart. That is absolutely ridiculous that they care so little about their patients that they don't even take the time to read their charts!

After that I decided to do some research on my own. I found a virus that matched her symptoms to the T. I asked the doctor if she could have that virus, and she said most likely not, and acted offended that I would even question her opinion. She recommended we do surgery immediately to remove the obstruction. I didn't believe her because it was too big of a coincidence that she had just interacted with a strange ferret and is now sick, so I asked them to take an x-ray first. They took it and found there was nothing in the stomach, and determined it was the virus that I suspected. After it was over they told me it was a good thing they didn't do the surgery because the virus could have caused major complications (not to mention it would have cost and extra few hundred dollars).

Thankfully I questioned their "expertise" and, in doing so, may have saved my ferret's life. But the vet bill in the end was thousands of dollars (double the high end of their estimate).

I highly recommend you consider going to another vet or else you may not be so fortunate.

I drove 65 miles with my sick snake to Midwest bird and exotic, she spent 2 days in their care and died. As a concerned pet owner and having just spent over $600 I wanted to know why she died. They explained they would have to send many tissue samples out to a lab for testing and this would be $150 to $220 plus shipping costs. I asked if with all these test and samples including my snakes whole head would give definite results and was told yes. The cost was $220 when all tests were added up and i agreed to the price. I get a call 2 weeks later with the results being they found some things but without more testing in different ways they couldn't be sure of cause. And as you can guess this would be more $$$$ but this time the results weren't definite nor had they been previously as i argued this with the doc. So unless i want to shell out hundreds more for additional testing I'm stuck with the same guesses as to what was wrong, as the night I took her in. They milk you by playing on your grief and concern and when you call them on it they don't want to deal with you anymore and ask you not to call or visit again. Luckily my second payment for the test was on a credit card that i was able to stop payment as i was able to provide justifiable reason. I would hope others learn from those of us who have gone through this, don't give these people your money they don't really know what they are doing!!!!

Having visited this hospital on several occasions, I have come to the conclusion that there are no specialists here, unless you include Billing Specialists, which doesn't do your pet much good. Most recently our pet was seen by multiple vets whom within a 3 day period didn't seem to know what tests the other had even performed and even asked me what I thought the problem was. After getting multiple tests on the first visit totaling hundreds of dollars we were told it may just be a fluke. A few days later the same problem and then was told by yet another vet (this one actually seeming to know what He may be talking about) a litany of possible tests going into the thousands of dollars. We being concerned about our pet were disturbed to find a general lack of feeling and concern and felt more like we were being milked out of our money, expressed this during a follow up call and visit only to be terminated as a client and informed of this by a fancy letter. Be prepared to hand them almost 100 $ when you walk in the door and if its over night don't be surprised by a bill anywhere from 500 - 1000 dollars this is only to find out what the problem maybe or at least in my experience this has been the case with several pets dogs, cats and reptiles. You may wish to try Chicago Exotics for reptiles and Animal 911 for your dogs and cats etc. I am sure others maybe very pleased with this clinic but they will never have a good review from us their treatment of their clients is no better than their treatment of their clients pets/family which is sub-par at best.

I brought my parrot to them in 11/03. Dr. Bixler treated my bird and diagnosed him incorrectly. I spent over $2000 and my bird died. They were too concerned with the money, and not with my bird's health. Dr. Nye was extremely rude and had no compassion at all. I will never go to this vet again, nor will I recommend it to anyone!

I took my bunny here once when he was sick and once to have him neutered, and I was very pleased with the care he received. The vets are very knowledgeable and know how to put anxious pet "parents" at ease. After my bunny was neutered, the vet tech who gave me post-op directions was just the sweetest guy. He showed me how to administer the medication and even had me practice to make sure I could do it on my own. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone with a bird or exotic pet.
