On the surface it all looks like a nice building and if you didn't know any better you'd think it was so/so. The kind of place you buy from because you feel sorry for the unfortunate souls that work there. Which was why I bought my bike from my salesman. I felt sorry for him.
However once you get to know the real story you'll run from there as if your pants were on fire.
How can you do business with a company that isn't able to keep it's sales force. Every time you go in the sales guy you previously spoke to has either quit or been fired for stealing. Maybe if they were paid a decent wage instead of some pie in the sky - shell game - pay plan the dealer might be able to keep a decent sales force.
If sales were the only problem it might be bearable but service isn't any better. When I picked up my bike from winter storage it was given back to me with five months of dust on it. Not to mention the service that was done to it left my brand new bike running like a turd. $400 dollars later another dealer was able to fix the errors of City Limits.
The real problem is management. Who is the boss? Certainly not the guy they're calling General Manager this week. He can't pee without making three phone calls for permission which seems to come the guy who says he's a SEAL. but never went to BUDS?

They'll sell you a Harley but you won't get the best deal.
They'll service your bike but chances are it will not be right.
Do yourself a favor and buy somewhere else!
Anywhere else!

How many tries does it take for this dealer to fix a simple 1999 sportster? None, bcause they do not know what they are doing. I took my 1999 Sportster in for service on 9/7/12 for backfiring issues and hard starting and not wanting to start 85% of the time. They called me in few days to tell me that the bike needs new start module, wires and plugs. Fine I said and told them to proceed with the repair. Week later they called me that the bike would be ready for pickup. Richie the kid in serive front desk said that the old module was all wired wrong and now the bike will run great. Well they couldnt start the bike, it would backfire and stall. Service manager (Mike) promised me that if the bike will not run right they will come and get it from my place their penny- well the bike wouldnt start they took it in and said it's all fine and I dont know how to start it. Anyways 3 trips to the dealer I finally decided to take the bike from them, but not after making Jeff, the GM aware of the issue. Jeff told me that this is the way the bike should run because it's cooler now and I got open pipes and exhaust. I asked the dealer to look at the battery wires and ground straps. They said they did and it was all fine. Well I got so fed up that I decided to take the bike in to Mark Schmidt in Port Washington, WI. He runs an independent shop called Schmidty's repair. He looked at the bike tried to start it and it wouldn't, he opened the battery cover and sure enough the positive cable is all cracked and strands are broken off - How could a dealer miss this? Mark Replaced the cable and bike runs like new. Also he changed the intake seals since they were shot as well as the 45 pilot jet that was clogged with green deposit. Dealer couldnt or didnt want to find those issues, they simply installed new module and pushed the metal out the door. Bad dealer bad! My bike is back it it's new self. I suppose the dealer didn't want to deal with me because I didnt spend 20K on a bike from them. Richie in service is just a scared guy always watching his arse, Mike thinks he knows, but doesnt. Robert or Bob the tech does what he is told. The curly hair older dude tried to convince me that this is the way this bike needs to run. Jeff well he acts like a manager - tries to cool things down, but doesnt admit the fault. Avoid City Limit! The nicest person there was an older lady that rides a decked out HD turqoiuse color, but she thought I would buy a new bike so she was nice. Service sucks big time. This was my last deal with this place. I will look elsewhere next time. Also Mark Schmidt told me that I should seek an advice from a legal system and get them for the 500 dollars I paid for something that wasn't the cause of my problems. I will look into this. Avoid Avoid. Palatine City Limit Harley

The most condescending arrogant people that I have ever met! The sales girls in apparel are great but the tool with the pony tail and the other wanna bees in the sales department need to learn how to treat a person. They think that they are elite and apparently think that I cannot afford a new HD by the way I look or something. I have bought 5 NEW Harleys in the last 6 years and still own 2 of them! If they have something to say to me say it to my face (they all dress up like tough guys!) don't wait till I leave and talk through the window while looking at me. I have spent a lot of money there in parts and clothing but promise I will never spend a penny there again. Go to Chicago Harley in Glenview, MUCH better customer service and very down to earth people. WHAT A JOKE!

Business Response:

Tom J., I would like to apologize for your experience. I am sure that somewhere there was a misunderstanding or a mistake made that led to your testimonial. Our motto is "treat others the way you would like to be treatedā?, this is a standard practice that we live by in our stores. Because of this, I am confident that no one was speaking ill will of you from behind closed doors. You can see from other customers that we simply don't treat people that way: "My wife and I want to thank everyone at Windy City Harley Davidson for the professionalism and courtesy that we recently experienced while purchasing my first Harley Davidson. Chris, Michael, Tony, Munch, Don and everyone else that worked with us treated us like royalty."... By: Dan & Annette Palatine, IL "Greatest bunch of people work at this dealership. They go out of their way to help you out. They take good care of you before and after the sale!" By: Kay Hoffman Estates, IL " Great experience, no arrogant attitudes or high pressure sales...." By: Jim Plainfield, IL Many more customer testimonials are listed here: http://www.citylimitshd.com/testimonials_display.asp I encourage you to read what others are saying. It is my mission to ensure that every experience in our dealership is a great one. I encourage you to come back to the dealership. I am confident that you will be overwhelmed by the friendly attitudes and willingness to go above and beyond that our staff conveys with every customer that walks through the doors. When you do please let me know, I would love to give you a personalized tour of the dealership and assist in any way I can. Jeff Smith General Manager

I'm thinking the folks who wrote these reviews must be talking about the OLD H-D in Palatine. Once went into but a $40K bike, the salesman seemed uninterested in selling anything. Said, "put down a deposit and we'll go from there." A deposit before I know the price? Then communicated a complete list of what I was looking for, contacted a month after I had already bought a bike at another store. Then yesterday - signed up and went over for the "service" seminar. At least 10 people working in the store, walked around for 45 minutes, so did another gentlemen and neither of us were approached by anyone! No signs, no hello, no nothing! He finally left, and about 10 minutes later so did I. Interesting that everyone seems to rave about the service - what service? No one even approached me as I looked around for like I said 45 minutes! Lots of H-D dealers out there - I know of at least 2 the are head and shoulders above this one. Too bad, it's the closest to my house. Too bad for them, then lost a good customer and a $40k bike sale, plus . . .

When I bought my bike City Limits H-D was still known as Suburban. I have had a great experience with the dealership from day one. since then I have been in for 1k & 5k services, both times the friendly attitude, skill, and attention to detail have left me with a smile on my face. The team at City Limits are total "Rock Stars"! Keep up the great work!!!

I have a 2006 Electra Glide which had a defective head on the rear cylinder and in a conversation with the operations manager this week resulted in correcting this problem and CL has gone above and beyond my expectations.. Not only are they replacing the head on my Electra Glide but they are taking care of storage for me as well? Hats off to them, I stand corrected in my assumption.
Wanted also indicate, that I have had City Limits (Suburban) service not this bike but my Road King as well and they always have done right by me !!!
City Limits is a first class operation and I will continue to have my bike serviced by CL when the time comes? Thanks again guys..
