BAD ACTORS!!!!\nCalled to set up towing, when I called back 10min later to ask if cancellation was an option they said $45 fee & phone was cutoff before I could respond. When I called back (they did not) & talked to the manager he said they had sent driver to another location and claimed I had cancelled which I NEVER HAD. I requested that they still come and the manager told me ""I have the right to refuse service and I'm going to do it in this case"" which made me incredulous. \nBottom line: I was stuck with a $45 fee in return for nasty service.\nFIND ANOTHER TOW COMPANY IF YOU NEED IT.

I called to order a tow, then called back 10min later to inquire about possible cancellation due to a status change. I got the manager who told me it would be a $45 cancellation charge, as per their policy, and then we were cutoff before I could respond. When I called back he told me he had subsequently rerouted the tow truck. I asked him if he could still come and he told me "I reserve the right to refuse service and I'm doing so to you" which left me quite shocked. Despite repeated requests for him to still come and help me out he refused.
Bottom line was that I was left without a tow, with a $45 charge, and insults.
If you do business with these guys you might consider bringing your lawyer.

Bottom line -- do not trust them. They were dispatched by my roadside assistance provider to tow me and made me agree to have the work done by them before they would tow and store my car.

$75/day to keep your car here if they aren't given the go ahead to fix it. if you want to take to another place, you better pay the balance of towing + inspection fee. prices to fix are crazy high. i called around and had quotes about $200 cheaper and the quotes were free. their's cost $60 but they don't tell you that. frank is a nice guy who will talk your ear off to make you like him, then they'll drop the hammer with their estimate. go elsewhere.

I originally called for roadside assistance changing a tire. The guy they sent out put a hydraulic jack under my car and when he lifted it, I heard a pop. Now my brakes grind and there's a thump when i turn the wheel.\n\nI tried talking to them about fixing the damage they caused, but they refused saying it was preexisting. They didn't even call me to let me know this, I had to CALL THEM BACK to find out. \n\nDO NOT USE wells automotive!!!! They will break your car!!!\n

I read what others had to say about this place and think you all must be nuts. I have a BMW 745 that is out of warranty. I took my car to this place because the BMW dealerships kept raping me. Frank, the owner of this place fixed my car for pennies on the dollar. He also told me that things the BMW dealership told me needed fixing didn't. I also learned that this guy is a Master Scout with the Boy Scouts and provides food, shelter and furniture for the poor. I will NEVER go to a BMW dealership again. Frank is honest and this place knows what they are doing

I brought my car in because the check engine light was on and the car was running like crap. Frank told me that he would check the car out and let me know what is wrong. I was expecting to receive a call with a big estimate and boy was I shocked when he called me back. Frank informed me that my car had a broken vacuum line that was causing my problem. The car was fixed and was ready for pick up all for $60.00! The car is running like new again. Thanks guys and see you in cheeseland!

DO YOU SEE THAT ONE STAR? TAKE THAT ONE STAR AND PUT A NEGATIVE SIGN IN FRONT OF IT. THEY DO NOT DESERVE ZERO STARS...\r\n\r\nI called to get a ROUTINE jump start to my car. They sent a kid- his name is ROLANDO out to jump start the car, with cables hooked up to a Jeep that was older than he was- not a professional jump start kit, but basic cables that one can get anywhere like Wal-Mart or Target! And get this, he JUMP STARTED MY CAR BACKWARDS!\r\n\r\nNot only did he jump start the car backwards, he caused major damage to my car! What service technician who works in a motor repair facility JUMP STARTS A CAR BACKWARDS? It's basic car service!\r\nBy jump starting the car backwards, it rendered my car unable to drive and therefore had to be towed to a nearby dealership!!! And of course, gross negligence is not covered by a warranty. So therefore, I had to pay for a new battery, for new fuses, and all labor from the dealership, had to pay for a rental car, and had to pay for the tow, PLUS had to pay them $60 for the botched jump start!!!\r\n\r\nOf course I went to Wells Auto to complain and to get my money back plus damages I incurred as result of Rolando jump starting my car backwards. The supervisor made me wait over an hour and the owner did not even personally come out to talk to me. The supervisor gave me a copy of a waiver I signed (which I was not provided a copy of!!!) and said that I signed the waiver of liability and that they weren't going to pay for anything.\r\n\r\nAfter some research, I wrote a demand letter with applicable Illinois Consumer laws and statutes. It stated that the liability is void because of gross negligence of Rolando. It also included a letter from the manager at Chicago Toyota and Scion which stated that all the damage to my car was done by cross-polarization of the battery, which the service technicians at Toyota found evidence of. \r\n\r\nI went to Wells Auto once again with demand letter in hand, with all exhibits, including the letter, demanding payment within 1 week. The owner (not sure if he was the owner or not... because he 1) Did not introduce himself and 2) Did not invite me back to his office, but made me stand in the waiting room to talk to him while he stood in the doorway!) told me that Rolando was the best technician and has worked for him for years and that he would NEVER jump start a car backwards. I then spoke to Rolando, who remembered me, and said that he did not start the car backwards and that I was making it up! THE OWNER said that I was a liar and that he believed Rolando when he said that he did not do it. Of course Rolando would lie; he doesn't want to get fired! The owner then also tried to accuse me of getting a friend to jump start my car first and then calling Wells Auto to jump start it to try blame Wells Automotive! The owner then called me a girl and said that I didn't know anything about cars and that a number of different things could have damaged my car. But what I do know is that when smoke and sparks come out, there is a problem!\r\n\r\nI told him I didn't care what he had to say, I wrote a demand letter and if nothing was done, I was going to take it up with the Better Business Bureau, the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Protection Agency, and take him to Small Claims Court. He then proceeded to say, you can write your letter and demand all you want, but you are not going to get anything for me. He also REFUSED to take the letter, but I left it there anyways! He said sue us, I don't care, you won't win. So that is what I am doing... taking their ass to court, filing a complaint with the BBB, and the Consumer Fraud and Protection Agency.\r\n\r\nThe supervisor was rude, the service technician, Rolando is incompetent and a liar, and the owner was downright condensing. Whatever happened to customer service? Whatever happened to the customer is always right (until proven otherwise)? \r\n

I have never experience such horrible customer service in my life nor have I had someone who is supposed to be of a 'professional caliber' speak to me in such an unprofessional manner. \n\nThe three parties I interacted with at Wells Automotive included the towers, owner and general manager. \n- Rude\n- Deceptive\n- Ripoff\n\nGo to ANY other auto dealer/repairshop in Chicago. There are numerous options. I have had multiple friends complain that they have been completely ripped off. You can find other repair shops that will work WITH you and not do whatever if takes to turn a profit. I really only find it necessary to write a review in two situations:\n1.) Excellent company/customer service that others must know about\n2.) Extremely poor service/circumstances that I feel others should be aware of. THIS IS THE CASE WITH WELLS. \n\nThe Situation\n\nI have Acura Roadside Assistence. Therefore, I can have my Acura towed to a dealer or repair shop for free. My breaks failed and my car was undrivable. I scheduled for towing via Acura Care to the Acura dealership. The towing company was Wells Automotive. They told me that the repairs that were necessary for my car would not be covered by Acura and that they should just tow it to their shop because they use Acura part and thus, the repairs would be equally expensive. I allowed them to do so (mistake number one on my part - THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR DEALER WILL AND WILL NOT COVER - and they know this.)\n\nThey quoted me an estimate of over $1k and before I allowed them to make repairs, I had my father follow up with Acura to verify that Acura couldn't fix the problem for a smaller fee. Acura told me that everything would be covered. So, when my father called back to explain, they immediately threw out that there was now a holding fee for the car - the second that they found out that they wouldn't receive the business. At a tune of $55 per day. So I arranged to have my car towed to the Acura dealership. My father faxed in the credit card info to cover these ""storage fees"". I got a call from Acura saying that they couldn't pick my car up until the storage fees had been paid - so Wells still had not towed my car to the dealership. This was at 7:30am. I called wells at 8:00 am to just pay the fees so I could have the car towed to Acura - Wells said that this fee was now $330 - they charged me a storage fee FOR AN ADDITIONAL DAY because the car was supposed to be towed an hour after they were open. The GM was completely rude to me when I asked if they could at least pro-rate the single day of storage considering that I had paid almost $400 for my car to sit in an empty lot already. He was completely rude, said no and when I asked to speak to his supervisor he said that he was too busy to talk to me. The GM also said that there was nothing he could to about the fees - I asked again to talk to someone more high up. After a while the owner finally got on the phone. He was ASTOUNDING - in the worst way possible. I explained how the towers from his company had convinced me not to tow to Acura but instead to his shop and that it was under false pretenses and that I would pay the extra storage fee but not for the extra day for the ONE SINGE HOUR that the car was there. I was calm and polite and he was rude and heartless. It was the worst customer service and a total ripoff. It was deceptive. And on top of everything, the owner made me come into the shop to pay the charges instead of faxing the credit card information in - which is normally ok - I know this because my father faxed in CC info for the first payment. \n\nI've had multiple friends who have been ripped off by this company.

Pros: STAY AWAY FROM WELLS

Cons: Deceptive, terrible customer service

.

I went to this place knowing I needed a simple tune-up. When pulling into the place, the vibe of the employees were laxed. The diagnosis they gave me was fabricated as they didn't know that I took my car into 2 other places to find out what the code was to the service engine alert. After giving me a bogus diagnosis, they then tried to convince me to pay almost $400 for a tune-up. \r\n\r\nRidiculous... I still ended up paying $56 for a diagnosis and taking it somewhere else for a tune-up of $200.\r\n\r\nThis place is suspect and shady.

ON Saturday August 29 I had a flat tire. Called Allstate who made arrangements at 2:45 pm for a flatbed tow from Wells Automotive. They said and hour and a After calling back personally at 3:45 and being told 4 pm and then calling back personally aat 4:15 and being hung up on called Allstate back. Spoke with Allstate three more time between 4:30 and 5:45 before even they acknowledged that Wells was no doubt not going to show. Every time they called Wells would give an ETA of another half hour. . They had been told the dealer, who was nearby was closing at 5 and they said we had plenty of time. Which we did until they didn't show. Allstate cancelled but they had no one else to call. I Called C&D towing. They said hour and a half were there in hour and 45 mins. Bad traffic on Saturday. Had proper truck, were professional and sympathetic. Wells has terrible reviews all over the place, but if you are sitting in your car with a flat tire and they are contracted with Allstate you assume reliablity becuz you surely cannot check. Write this name down and whatever motor club you belong to don't let them try and send you Wells.

My son was stuck in Chicago. His car wouldn't start. Wells towed him, checked car out and couldn't find anything wrong. They couldve have taken us for alot of money. They were helpful and kind. Picked my son up at the hotel so he could retrieve his car..They didn't have to do that.\nHonest, Helpful and if I lived in the area I would use them for my car. Thanks Wells.

I drive a 2001 Subaru Outback that has been meticulously maintained. In Chicago on business I was due for my 3k mile oil change. I went in and told the mechanic that I needed the oil changed and THAT WAS IT.\n\nWhen I picked up the car, he tried to feed me some story about an oil leak from my valve cover. I told him that the car was pretty well maintained and I hadn't noticed any leaks under the car. He countered by saying that it doesn't take much. And that the problem was that the oil was leaking onto the wires underneath the valve cover. So I asked him to show me. To be honest, it didn't look like a problem... but I'm not a mechanic.\n\nHe then gave me an estimate for the work. Included in the estimate, new valve cover gasket, new air filter, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires. Oh, and ""engine cleaning"" (which he said meant wiping the corrosion off my battery). TOTAL ESTIMATE COST: $686.66 I told him I was a little suspect as my mechanic in New Jersey has been so attentive. He told me it was imperative that I get this done before leaving Chicago. (The exact quote was, ""A little oil on those wires and you've got yourself an engine fire"".)\n\nLong story short, my brother (who's a mechanic) came to visit this week and confirmed my suspicions. UPSELLING CON JOB! I've read a number of bad reviews on these guys but figured I'd be safe if I was just going in for an oil job. But they still tried to get me. Probably saw my out of state plates and thought they could scare me into paying nearly $700 for a little peace of mind.\n\nMy advice is: DO NOT TAKE THESE GUYS AT FACE VALUE. Go in there with a clear idea of what you need done. If they suggest anything else, make sure you get a second (and third) opinion.

I got a flat tire hitting one of the many potholes in the Westloop. I called GEICO for roadside assistance. They sent someone from Wells Automotive to change my tire and replace it with my spare. When the guy showed up he ""tried"" to take my tire off. He said it was ""stuck."" He tried for maybe 2 seconds. He called a tow truck and I waited 3 HOURS for them to arrive. ( they said it would be less than 1 hour) They towed me to a tire place which had no problem replacing my tire. I'm assuming Wells makes more money off GEICO from towing than replacing a tire. I even asked the tire company if there was any reason why roadside ""assistance"" couldn't take tire off. They all laughed. I called Mike at Wells thinking that he as the owner/manager would want to know what his employees were doing. He didn't care. I will never use this company again.

Pros: geico paid for them

Cons: unhelpful, unprofessional, shady, untrustworthy

.

I didn't choose to use this company, Volkswagen Roadside Assistance did. I called at night to have my car towed and I was told that it would either be a 6 hour wait, or that I could schedule the car to be towed the next morning. At 8:00 in the morning, I was called and told it would be there within the hour. Waited in the car from 8:45-10:15, they never showed up. Called Wells directly and the the lady that answered the phone sounded like she was asleep. She took 10 seconds, supposedly checked with the driver, though I doubt it, and then told me it would be another hour since they were backed up. Apparently they think that since I scheduled a towing, they already had my business and it would be ok to make me wait even longer. Then I looked online, saw the horrible reviews, called VW Roadside Assistance, and demanded to have a different towing company pick it up. At this point, I don't care that I have to wait another couple hours for a different company, just as long as it isn't these retards picking it up. VW says they are investigating this company and they will hopefully never use them again. Thank you citysearch, let's put these a-holes out of business.

I went here because it was recommened by the Jiffy Lube guys on North and Kingsbury. Well, they must be getting a kick back because the charges are totally over market. Even my the Honda dealer downtown was cheaper!!!! I went in for an anti-freeze leak and came out being told I needed new front brakes, should have my rear brakes services, a leak in an oil gasket (which would need the transmission taken out and flushed) Are you kidding me???? I was given an estimate to repair all the above......$1700!!! I called my father and he said I was being taken for a ride!!!! I called around and was quoted $750 for everything at 2 other shops. I will NEVER return here!!!! AND Im telling the people at Jiffy Lube they are full of it and should find someone else to recommend people to. Cheapest I found was up on Addison and Milwaukee....excellent service and nowhere near $110/hr to have the guys sit around and smoke cigarettes, oh I meant work on your car......NOT \r\n\r\nBottom line.....very expensive

Last week I parked my car and found a trail of fluid coming from my car. I walked across the street to Wells Automotive Service and asked them if they could take a look at my car. I needed to make my next sales call and was in a hurry. They pushed my car into the shop and put it up in the air to find out that the last facility that did my oil change did not torque my oil drain plug properly. Wells repaired my car and cleaned up the mess that was left and had me on the road in under 30 minutes. I was able to make my next appointment thanks to their prompt service. The guys there great and I will definitely be back. Thanks for the help...Go Bears!

My car broke down on the expressway, I called my roadservice company and the tow truck arrived shortly after it was Wells Automovtive. My roadside assistance sent me to a big name repair facility, after 2 days there I felt like I was being taken advantage of so I called my roadside assistance, again the Wells Automotive truck met me at the repair facility in a timely manner. I asked the driver where I could take my car he suggested Wells Automotive. When I arrived, I was leary because I felt I was being taken advantage of at the other place, but when I got to Well Automotive, I was treated with respect and Frank and Pat took the time to explain everything that needed to be done to my car. I felt the price was fair and the Trevor, the technician who repaired my car, is an excellent tech and a great guy. I would highly recommend Wells to anyone.

I would avoid using Wells Automotive for anything! I was forced to use them to tow my Volkswagen Beetle, since it was the company Geico uses. They were given the name and address of my mechanic in Highland Park, but they dropped my car off at a nearby Volkswagen dealer instead. They did not even bother to check the drop off location to the address they were given. They were rude on the phone when I called to tell them of the error, and to boot they would not even give me a refund! Geico was even surprised they didn't give me a refund.

My company had our maintenance van towed to this company and they found the problem which was some of the electrical wires were chewed through by roddens. they said they fixed the problem and everything was fine. When we got the van from the shop my driver told me the van was running very badly, much worse than when we took it to them. We paid over $224.00 for the work and we are having much more problems then we had before they worked on it. \r\n\r\nI am going to a different shop and I do not recomend their services to anyone else.

I used Wells Automotive towing service because I couldn't get my car to start and needed it towed to the dealership. The tow truck driver arrived an hour and fifteen minutes later, and proceeded to quickly back my car out of my garage and, in doing so, ran into a metal support poll of my neighbor's garage. There was a large dent on my rear bumper. When I pointed out the damage to the driver, he quickly admitted fault and said his insurance would cover it, no problem. He supposedly called his boss (Mike Guskey) on his phone and said it would be no problem to cover the repair, he just had to take the car over to Wells Automotive for pictures of the damage. He wrote on my receipt ""rear bumper dented in"".\r\n\r\nTwo hours later, I still hadn't heard from the company. I called over to Wells Automotive and was told that the damage was not caused by the driver and would not be covered. I asked repeatedly to speak to the Manager and was denied every time. They claim that dent was pre-existing damage and that's why it was written on the receipt. Since then, both my husband and I have made numerous attempts to contact Mike Guskey and have been fed a new lie each time we initiate contact. They say the case is closed and they have nothing else to say to us.\r\n\r\nI have never been so frustrated with a business in the seven years I've lived in Chicago. They are dishonest and do not deserve your business. Stay away from this company!!!!

They told me a year ago that I needed new brakes plus numerous other things. Now a year later and 13,600 miles later my dealer just told me that I have only 40 percent wear on my brakes. I don't trust these guys and wonder about the work they did for me in the past.

Wells Automotive should be avoided at all costs, especially if you are not familiar with cars or automotive repairs. The two brothers, Frank and Mike Guske, who apparently inherited or run the business for their father, are in a word, dishonest. I had my car towed to their shop after it broke down on the highway. Their towing staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, but the tow was overpriced at $80 + $4/mile. Things got worse once they looked at the car. I had a bad distributor cap, and the technician wanted to replace the spark plug wires, rotor, and distributor cap. For this job, Well's automotive quoted me the UNBELIEVABLE price of $1,500. When I asked them how they came to this price, they initially waffled and spoke quickly, then dropped the price to $998. Readers should note that this sort of quick talk FROM THE OWNER OF THE SHOP is a sure sign that you are being taken from a ride. I told them I'd call them back, and then called my car dealership myself to get my own sense of how much the parts were. The parts were less than $200 - and keep in mind the dealership is the most expensive way to go to get new parts - Advance Auto Parts had them, for $64, all with 5 year warenty. Now up until this point, these guys are rip-off artists that wanted to overcharge me; they moved into 'dishonest' when I called them on it. They told me the other $800 was for 'oil, spark plugs, an oil filter, and labor.' When I asked them about using generic parts, they told me that they could not be used for this job because 'the resistance of the electrical system would be compromised.' Let me translate that for the reader: 'I'm telling you a bunch of BS, hoping to intimidate you into accepting our lie."" Frank and Mike better hope they have autoshops in hell, cause that's where they are headed after a lifetime of lying to customers. Oh, and if you ask their tow staff, they will tell you that even they avoid these shady characters! Go anywhere but here for auto repair.

Not only is this place extremely expensive, but the managers are rude and the receptionist is so unprofessional! I had to call them 4 times to get someone to answer my questions, I have never been treated so rudely, and am still upset over the price I was forced to pay for the service (which I could have gotten for half the price anywhere else)! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy!\r\n

Last week I had a noise from the front of my car so I decided to bring it to Wells Automotive Service to have it inspected. I was greeted by Frank and Pat when I arrived and explained what my concern was. They looked at the car and told me that you are lucky that you haven't been in an accident. Hearing this made me very concerned. Frank showed me that one of my front struts was only breaking away from the body of the car. Seeing the damage for myself really shocked me. I asked Frank what my options were and he informed me that the repairs needed to make the car safe would exceed the value of my car. I'm happy that Wells Automotive Service was honest with me and took the time to show me what was wrong. Honesty is the best policy.

Where do I begin... As a visitor stranded in the city because your transportation fails on you, you seek help. Well I thought, Wells Automotive was the right place to seek help. The shop is located in the heart of Gold Coast, which was very convenient since my car broke down near this area. I got my car fixed to head home. \nFew days later, I learned from my mechanic friend, I was taken for a ride paying more than $480 dollars more than I should have... I try to talk to them but I ended up with bunch of excuses. it was a rush job... it was labor intensive... BS\n\nMy car seem to be running okay but boy I just can shake this feeling of taken for a ride\n\nI would not recommend this mechanic They carry average service, average workmanship and VERY expansive.
