Wonderfully delicious food, very friendly wait staff. Everything we had here was absolutely divine. The only thing I would skip next time is dessert as it left something to be desired after such wonderful appetizers and entrees. Be sure to make reservations as this is the place to see and be seen. Great people watching. Ladies, don't underdress. This restaurant is the perfect excuse to wear that little black dress hanging in your closet!

We went to MK for my b.day and were seated promptly and where i requested, it was downhill from there though. The server did not show up for at least 20 mins and when he showed up he seemed in a rush and a not very pleasant person. Anyway i ordered the tasting menu which was five courses and got only served four of them, and when i pointed it out to the server he asked if i still wanted to have the missing course!!!!!!!!!! i am not sure about anyone else but if i am paying for something YES I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE WHOLE THING. and by the way the food is nothing to brag about, there is many better places in chicago for a special occasion.

Last time I was in Chicago was for the National Restaurant Assn. show at McCormick Place. Being that we, our group, are "Restaurant People" we decided to spend as much money as possible and get the full tour de force of Chicago's amazing restaurant scene.
On with the tour... Like most places in the city, upon approaching you don't see much that is terribly inviting. MK has a painted sign on the side of the building and a globe shaped light above the door entrance and some windows that look into mostly the bar/lounge part of the restaurant. However, upon entry, the staff immediatly brings you into what I like to call the "comfort zone". When we walked in we felt like we were being hosted to a grand dinner party by people that truly cared about the art of food and service. People from Minnesota look at me funny when I tell them that not only did the culinary team at MK care about the experience but the entire service staff that we encountered seemed to emulate the same feeling for our enjoyment of the food and experience. MK transcended this amazing feeling of service and culinary talent all into one, creating one of the best experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. If i had to put it in one word it would be polished.

Enough conceptualizing, do I even need to say that the food was way too good for this planet. I tried the Kobe steak (flank or hanger, can't remember), soft shell crab, pork and halibut. All of the dishes were to die for. I especially liked the Kobe steak, it was prepared to mid rare and had so much flavor I was very tempted in ordering another even after I was completely full. The pork was the best I have ever had, it was so succulent and full of meaty flavor it was hard to give the plate back with out licking it clean. Overall, MK was my favorite dining experience in Chicago, above Blackbird, The Signature Room and others we went to. I think one would be hard pressed to find a better dinner anywhere on Earth! Great Job, Well Done!

Pros: Everything

Cons: Only one location world wide

Visiting in town from Atlanta and was looking for a great local experience. Sergio was my waiter. His recommendations were oustanding (the tuna, white wine, and cake shake) - enjoyed every bite. The ambiance was great - best for couples or business meetings. I would definitely recommend if you consider yourself a foodie.

Pros: Location, food, service - ask for Sergio!

Cons: It's a bit pricey - my bill for one person (with wine) was $71

Great hip place, excellent food. I personally recommend the mango and lobster salad (delicious) Superb service, our waiter was eager to service our every need. Endless wine list. The decoration is fenomenal, very trendy and modern. Spacious and open, not your usual crowded place fancy.

Read the Reviews and MK did not let me down! Seated promptly, Armando G. covered each menu item with a description exceeding the well prepared menu. Every item peaked both our interest and our appetite, including Armando's comment about the best steak in Chicago - and the challenge was on!

First the Korn Soup with Lobster and the Tuna Tartare - both wonderful - one of the best soups - simply phenomenal! Served in an ample bowl, lined with 3 mounds of lobster and then covered w/ the corn soup poured tableside over the lobster with a dash of sherry added- great touch! The wine list is extensive and we asked for advice from the Sommelier, Josh quickly appeared, introduced himself in a friendly and non-pretentious manner. His knowledge of both the menu and the wine list was exceptional and he recommended a Beits&Scholl '04 Syrah, an unfamiliar winery but trusted his judgement. Decanted tableside and was quite honestly - exceptional! The Steaks prepared and seasoned to perfection! I enjoy steaks rare and it had a nice charcoaled crust and a cool pink interior. Yes - one of the finest steaks that I have ever had in Chicago or anywhere for that matter! The pomme frites served w/ a spicy but delightful dipping sauce is highly recommended. While the deserts were appealing, we chose the 5 cheese plate and ordered it accompanied by a pleasant 10 year old port - and very contented smiles.

Armando, Josh, Louis and all made it a splendid dining experience and while busy, we never lacked for attentive service nor the ability to engage in dinner conversation. A very nice balance!

The 6 course tasting w/ a wine for each course and adding the cheese plate is a bargain at $79. Our meal was over $300 with the elegant wine - well worth the experience! And yes - The Best Steak in Chicago!

Now if Chef Michael K. would only share the recipe for the corn and lobster soup - I will have died and gone to heaven! Please Chef - Our your listening??? Thank YOU MK!

This is the first time I have been motivated to write a review, but last nights dinner was so bad I have to help others avoid this place. There was an article a few years ago in the NY times that reported that MK tries to push it's customers along so that they can get them in and out as quickly as possible and flip the table. They started with serving our wine while we were still half way through our pre-dinner drinks. The appetizers came while we were still eating the amuse bouche. I could smell the burnt steak I ordered before it even came to the table. It was so dry and overcooked the manager even looked shocked. The lamb had so much fat and was so rare it was not even touched. To end the evening the manager did deduct the cost of the entrees but then asked us to finish our $120 wine in the bar so they could seat others
I've been to many restaurants and I have been to MK before and its still one of the worse I have been too. I want to like the place but I'm done with it. Save your money.

When I made reservations at mk a few days ahead of time, I made sure to ask whether their online menu was current. The person who took my call told me that their website was indeed up to date--but I guess she didn't know that the menu would be changing in a few days? That aside, I went there hoping that the positive reviews were true, and that the dishes would be the highlight of the evening... Well, I must say that I wasn't very impressed by the whole dining experience. While not all the dishes had problems, the quail appetizer tasted a little underseasoned and the pommes frites that the waitress claimed to be one of their specialties (and different from regular pommes frites) weren't special at all. Overall, I think the decor was nice and the food was just OK. I will not dine there again, though.

If I have guests coming in from NY, I take them to MK. If my boss is coming into town, I take her to MK. If I am celebrating..MK. This restaurant is a consistent winner...the food is exceptional, the service is truly good, and the wine list is terrific. After numerous visits over many years (since the month the restaurant opened)...it has been a wonderful addition to Chicago.

I recently went to MK Restaurant with my Mother to celebrate her 70th birthday. While my experience there was very pleasant (service, food, etc.) I was sorely disappointed to learn that my Amex Gift Card was over-charged by more than $40. I didn't realize this until after I phoned to check my gift card's balance. Amex advised that only the restaurant could put the funds back onto the card. After several attempts to reach the manager, I could not get this matter resolved. Essentially $40 was stolen from me by this establishment.

No matter what restaurant you dine in, you should always review the final bill and your credit card statements because, unfortunately, there are bad people everywhere and, of course, the human error element. This seems to happen in restaurants more than any other place. I was really disappointed in the way this matter was addressed by MK's management and will never patronize this establishment again.

I first went to MK 5 years ago on the first date with my current wife. In addition, I also proposed to her at the same location. The food at MK is amazing, the service is incredible, and they are extremely professional. I always receive my requested seat, the private 2 person table, on the upper terrace without any problems. We have gone back every year on our anniversary and management always guarantees us "our" table. This past year, we did not receive our requested seat due to confusion with the hosting staff. As a result, the manager gave us 50% off our meal and a free $120 bottle of champagne. If that is not customer service and loyalty, I don't know what is. I will continue to go there every year as long as they are in Chicago.

We enjoyed ourselves more waiting for our table and had better service from the waitress in the foyer area. Once we were seated our waitress seemed put out to have to serve us and wasn't interested in answering any questions we had about the menu. We were crammed into a table with barely 6in of clearance on either side & literally knocking elbows with neighboring tables. Suffice it to say it was one of those restaurants where you had to strain to hear because the accoustics weren't very good. The food wasn't very good either. Which if it was, we could understand the popularity since the place didn't have much else going on for it. We felt that the prices didn't justify the food or service. We always like to try the latest greatest and top reviewed. But sometimes find that trendy equals just that: trendy. So beware of all the great reviews, it might be that this is the nicest restaurant the reviewer has been to & doesn't know any better. For those who do... don't bother.

Oh what can I say? Went there Saturday night for my b'day. Was promptly seated at a great table overlooking the restaurant and service commenced shortly thereafter. I tried the degustation menu and was just swept away. All 5 courses were exquisite and they even let me substitute my desert. I ordered the baba rum cake with ice cream and it was just to die for. My choice of wine didn't go very well with the food but that's no fault of the restaurant's. Armando was my server, assisted by Moises and both were fabulous. I had to leave at 7:00 sharp to get to the Opera and they made sure I was out the door at that time. I have to go back especially because I didn't try their fries or desert shakes...and everyone raves about those. It is pricey but definitely worth the experience. A must for all foodies!!

Best food I had in Chicago, whatever they are doing to those Berkshire pigs, keep it up! MK is focused, innovative, and lots of fun. This is a restaurant that literally defines why we dine out in the first place. Without a speck of pretention, MK manages to deliver a complete dining experience with such ease that one would think they were not even trying. Oh, and where did they find that General Manager? Kudos!

The best! Great space, excellent service, incredible wine list, knowledgable staff (our server even had a printed card with his name on it!). Have fun and interact with your server and you'll get great recomendations from the menu and wine list. Best to go for late dinner on the weekends -- you'll get more attention and it's a little more quiet.

Every staff member we encountered was very friendly. The server was attendive and fun. When making a reservation I requested a "free-standing" table. Our request was granted.
The chicken dish was excellent and the desserts were very tasy. The "club type" music in the background was a bit annoying but did not disturb our dinner.

I loved this place! They gave us the best seat in the house (which I think is the upstairs tables next to the rail) and the waiters were so helpful and prompt. The fish choices (go for the John Dory!) were spectacular and the I think I had the BEST FRENCH FRIES OF MY LIFE. The creme brulee and Cake and Shake desserts were amazing, and they had a great wine selection. Big props to Jill -- she's our favorite waiter there! It was definitely pricy--be prepared to easily spend $100 on starter, entree, wine, dessert, and french fries (don't forget the french fries!).... BUT WORTH IT

Highly recommend this place! Took my wife there for Valentine's day and was VERY impressed with the service, food and ambiance. While the portions are on the 'leaner' side, the quality of the meal makes up for it with ease. Friendly, attentive staff and a great wine list. Try to sit upstairs along the bannister to get the best view of the whole place and to soak it all in. I've been back twice...more to come!

MK was good. The food was good, the service was good. The desert was great. It was not excellent though. I've had better at other restaurants in Chicago (especially for the money). Go for the trendy-newness, but not the food, which is just average.

Visiting from NYC I was on a mission to find an exceptional restaurant to brag about when I got home, that is exactly what I did!! Food was phenomenal...desert menu.. I literally couldn't decide they all sounded so unique and mouth watering! We joked around with our waitress the whole time and they even brought us out some soup compliments of the chef. Would highly recommend this place and would defiantly go back!!

I came here with my mother and her friend from out of town. We were seated quickly, (no waiting at a bar,) on a saturday night. The food was good, (not exquisite...possibly because I ordered the wrong thing-I always get steak, which is probably not the best Idea when you're at a nice, expensive place...my mom's friend's pasta was remarkable,) and the bill was a bit more than it ought to have been, (but then again, we did drink a few to many, and it's cheaper not to order alchohal.) I wouldn't discourage the place, and actually enjoyed it, and the sleek, lofty dinning room. But why not go to a place like spring for cheaper?

Food was fresh and unique but definitely not over the top. Too pricey for what you get (taste-wise), there is absolutely no ambience and the room is overly noisy. You want romantic--go elsewhere because you're practically on top of the couple next to you. Desserts were tasty.

Food was fresh and unique but definitely not over the top. Too pricey for what you get (taste-wise), there is absolutely no ambience and the room is overly noisy. You want romantic--go elsewhere because you're practically on top of the couple next to you. Desserts were tasty.

Pros: desserts good, food fresh, food unique

Cons: too noisy, no ambience, tables too close

I had guests in town for the weekend, and we all were very pleased with MK. We were seated immediately, we told our server we had theater tickets for later and they continually stayed aware of this. The food was excellent, well seasoned and prepared to perfection. Everyone in my party was pleased, so I was pleased.

My girlfriend and I started off at the bar with stiff sapphire n' tonics. We were then promptly seated on the second level overlooking the entire restaurant making for a great view. The rabbit dish was prepared elegantly with a cinnamon hinted sauce... quintessentially fall and absolutely delicious. The hamachi appetizer was fine fusion and the Reisling complimented our meals perfectly. Our mouth-watering desserts came with the words "Happy Anniversary" decorated nicely around each plate in chocolate sauce. I was completely shocked! I don't even remember mentioning it at all. Our waiter was the best!

Have heard so much about this place and finally got to go there this Friday. Food was unbelievable and presentation was very creative. I did have to wait a little bit at the bar to be seated but overall I had a blast. I will definately be returning!

Very cool place. Selections were daring but not excellent. Waiter had a major attitude. Fortunately, it didn't bother me or my friend, but still, why is this necessary?

MK was my favorite place to dine in the city, until my last visit. Up until that time I thought the food was outstanding and the decor and service matched. But when I recently took a group we were all a bit disapointed. The service was awful. The waiter was rude, abrupt and unattentive. The fish was old - overall not the dining experience I remembered. I will go back to MK - hopefully it was an off night. All previous dining experiences were spectacular. Therefore my rating are based on a combination of the good times and the bad one.

P.S. Try the pomme frites...

Our first time in Chicago, and we couldn't have had a better dining experience. Attentive staff but not overwhelming, knowledgeable about wines, and excellent food! Romantic setting, nice decor. We will definitely eat here again!

My wife and I had dinner here Friday night. The service was excellent. We ordered the 6 course degustation. Each dish included fresh tomatoes. Every course was excellent. We particularly enjoyed the halibut and the veal.

I never imagined that this classy of a restuarant would even have fries on the menu.....I soon realized that these fries would be the best that I have ever had (I am an avid french fry lover). It was great to look around the restuarant to see almost every table with the "fries in a glass." The chicken was the absolute most tender and juicy meat that I have ever tasted.

The menu was a bit limited and I wasn't impressed with my soft shelled crab. But I vote this as the place for best dessert because they offer a plate of cookies - awesome!

I visited Chicago from New York a few weeks ago and I was struck by the accuracy of the review I had read in the Journal. The food was ok if un-imaginative, but the pace of the kitchen was a frenzy.

Went with my girlfriend for our anniversary. The service was a little confusing but overall very good. The reasturant itself is very modern, with close seating arrangements on the main floor, but not too bad.

The food and prep was outstanding. We had the ravioli and the artichokes for aps, both great, and the halibut and pork tenderloin for dinner. The quality of the meat and fish were impressive and the wine list was good.

The place is a little pricey, but if you have the means, it is a worthwhile dining experience in Chicago.

Elegant fare and a clear vision have kept the Michael Kornick concept at the forefront of the food scene since 1998. The dramatic yet understated dining room doesn't have a bad seat, but it's the second floor balcony that offers the best…
