The Art Institute of Chicago may seem like just a place to go if you're a tourist, but it is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in the city. There are a wide variety of exhibits and many famous paintings. I would recommend this to anyone, especially people visiting the city for the first time.

Very interesting place to go. Lots of art, scultures, etc. We take the kids there for special classes and exhibits they have. Sometimes they have a kids only class on the weekends which is very cool. The employees are all very friendly and its not an expensive place to visit. If you are in Chicago i reccommend you visit during your trip!

There's a reason this place always has people coming in and out. It's a fabulous place to see art and take in a little culture on the lakefront in Chicago. The selection is fabulous. No matter what style of art you like, you're sure to find a great selection here that you will love. The staff are great. You could spend an entire day here and still not see everything.

I've been to the Art Institute a few times and I still don't think I've seen it all. I really enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the place. The building itself is art. Be sure to check for free days; I believe those are on Tuesday. Allot yourself a lot of time to explore and wander around the grounds. There is a lot to take in.

I'm not really into art, but this museum has some really interesting displays that appeal to everyone. They have everything from classics like american gothic to midieval armor and weaponry. If you're visiting Chicago, make sure to stop in, especially on one of their free days in the summer (usually Tuesdays). Its located right on Michigan avenue next to Millenium Park, so its hard to miss.

I'm sure if you are into art you will love this place. If you don't, it still has alot to appreciate. To be honest, I've never gone here because I wanted to, other then I didn't want to be left behind on a field trip day. There is a wide variety of paintings, sculptures, and misc. "art" to see. It would be a great date idea if you want to look sophisticated. Also, it is located in a great part of Chicago with lots of restaurants around (to sneak out of the fieldtrip and go to).

Not only does this museum have a wonderful permanent collection(Impressionists, modern art, etc.) they have excellent special exhibits where it's a big advantage to be a member. Their restaurants are good, particularly their outdoor garden, one of my favorite summer places.

The Art Institute of Chicago is a great place to visit to look at famous art work. My personal favorite is the painting called "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte." This painting is an example of pointillism, where images are created by fine points of paint and the true image is visible from a far distance. It is located at the edge of Downtown, so it is best to take public transportation when visiting the museum as parking is limited.

One of the top art museums in the world filled with priceless paintings, sculptures and collections that will make your eyes bug out. The list of famous painters and sculptures that's work graces this Chicago landmark is too long to mention. A must stop when visiting the city. Inspiring and awesome.
PROS: Right in the downtown area, near many forms of public trans and cabs
CONS: No parking except pricey lots nearby

Don't go to Chicago without visiting this museum - and make sure you put aside multiple hours for your visit. The Art Institute houses famous classics and modern art alike, housing a variety of collections that changes throughout the season. It's on par with the Met - just not quite as large. Don't miss out on this awe inspiring art viewing experience.

Most people know and love the Art Institute but don't know that if you have a baby or toddler, you can still enjoy this great institution as a child-friendly destination. Everything is handicapped-accessible, the security guards are friendly, and there is so much for a little person to see. Put away your baby Einstein stuff and take your little one to see the real thing. The open floor plan makes for great exploring, and the cafeteria downstairs is bright, clean, has high chairs and has many good food choices for kids.

Located convieniently in the Loop, the Art Institute is one of the top art museums in the US. Their Monet collection is especially big, but they have many other wonderful collections as well. They have a 'free-admission' day once a month, but spend the money and go on another day, because the crowds are pretty big.

Whatever type of art you are interested, they have it in spades at the Art Institute. The collections range from early civilizations through modern. Special exhibits are frequent and of high caliber. A true art lover could spend days wandering the various galleries and still leave some.
PROS: extensive art collection
CONS:

THE ART INSTITUTE IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO GO VISIT,VERY SERENE ENVIROMENT,THE PAINTINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL,THEY CALL OUT TO YOU AND SOME YOU CAN SENSE THE EMOTION IN THEM WITHOUT THE ARTIST HAVING TO SAY A SINGLE WORD,SOME ARE HAPPY,SOME ARE SAD,BUT REMARKABLE AND BRINGS A STIR OF EMOTIONS. AND DRAWS YOU INTO THE PAINTINGS,YOU CAN USE YOUR IMAGINATION TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE PAINTINGS,AND SOME YOU FEEL LIKE YOU COULD STEP INTO THEM(THE BIG PICTURES). AND I HAVE SEVERAL FAVORITES THERE THAT HAVE BEEN HANGING SINCE I WAS A SMALL CHILD,I ALWAYS LOVE TO SIT AND LOOK AT THOSE...FEELS LIKE HOME,A MEMORY FROM A CHILDHOOD THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK AND SEE...KINDA LIKE A OLD FRIEND,NEVER GET TIRED OR BORED OF THEM...

The Art Institute of Chicago is definately World Class. Tuesdays are "free days" with no set admission fee, any donation you wish to make they will accept. The exhibits here are first rate, adn they have something fro eveyone- whether you like your art modern, classical, primative, 3-D, the impressionists, whatever. Plus for the kids they have the swords and armor hall. Parking is expensive, but park under the park and walk over, it is not a far walk and then go see Buckingham fountain and enjoy a picnic lunch and a stroll along the lake for a great day out with the family

The Art Institute has one of the best art exhibits in the US. You may want to take this in several days, otherwise you'll be running through this mueseum to see all well-known artists, paintings, statues, photos, sculptures, armors, etc. etc. This is a gem of the city, and is a must visit. A VERY good value for anywhere in the world.
Tuesdays are "free days" with no admission fee. Whichever day you go, I'd say get there early. You'll need to make a few visits to see everything.
PROS: Free Admission on Tuesdays
CONS: Little Parking
