Good mellow divey bar with a decent beer selection and easy crowd. Jeans and T-shirts. If you visit Hyde Park on a museum day, end your jaunt at Woodlawn Tap.

Okay, so I wouldn't recommend going down here if you didn't live in Hyde Park. However, if you do, there are probably not many other places that you can go. So come here. The bartenders are friendly, drinks are relatively cheap, and everyone is pretty much the same age (early to mid 20's). Good times.

Pros: friendly bartenders, cheap beer and food for a grad student's budget

Cons: not a place to meet your soulmate (even if you're looking for Hannah Arendt)

After moving to Chicago only a few weeks ago, I've been looking for a neighborhood bar in which to share time with friends and classmates. Thankfully, my search has ended at the Woodlawn Tap bar just down the road from my apartment. I

Pros: Ambience, great character, live music, relatively inexpensive.

Cons: Not the largest assortment of draft beers or upscale spirits, not terribly inventive in terms of food.
