The Scene
Lots of woodwork and dim lighting set a mellow mood; booths line one wall, and small tables are scattered in the back. Voices are low, with no shouting across tables necessary--a Saturday night rarity in this town.

The Food
Mostly comfort food, dinners come nostalgically close to Mom's specialties: chicken pot pie, pot roast, pork chops with sweet potato casserole and blackened catfish hit home. Lemon garlic chicken is juicy and flavorful, and salmon au gratin is tasty but comes with bones (to our surprise). With 12 beers on tap--most of which are microbrews--and more than 15 bottled beers, you're bound to find something to your taste. Silver Cloud also boasts a pretty impressive martini and cocktail list, including the trendy autumnal apple martini.

The Inside Scoop

  1. When to Go - Hung over? When you can't bear to do it yourself, Saturday and Sunday brunch offers griddle favorites, biscuits and gravy, and several egg variations.

okay

by linda B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 998

This place was highly recommended to me, but I'm not sure why. The food was decent; I had a sloppy joe for old times sake and it was fine but not particularly great. Our server was good though.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.

by Beth H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,424

A friend of mine took me to this great restaurant (supper club). The prices are just right with specials almost every night. If you ask anyone what the best dish is they will tell you the sloppy joe's with tater tots. I know this is something your mom made for you when you were a kid, but oh man is it great. Everything from appetizers, soups, to burgers are great as well. Oh yeah, if you want to watch a game there are plenty of tv's and the bar serves great mixed drinks and has a great beer and wine selection. This is a must when in the Wikerpark neighborhood.

Great comfort food for a bar

by ColleenChicago

I have been here countless times. The food is very good, no it's not gourmet but one wouldnt expect that while eating in a bar. For bar food, it is excellent. The music is loud, but fun tunes. Service is friendly, and overall pretty good, Have the Stuffed turkey sandwich.

Pros: comfort food

Cons: loud

BAD FOOD, LIKE YOUR LAZY MOM WOULD MAKE / HORRIBLE SERVERS / NO MANAGEMENT

by HIGHEXPECTATIONS14798

I recently hosted a party for 12 people ( A 21st birthday for my sister ) at Silver Cloud because on their website it shows that they cater and hold large group parties so, I thought it would be more fun than your typical resteraunt. I set the reservation for 7:30 and arrived at 7:15 and to my suprise no table had been set for us ( 12 people on a cold wednesday night was deffinately the largest table and im sure we ended up having the largest bill of the night). We waited for everything and had an arguementative waitress ( she also lied about being able to turn the channel on the TV ). When it was time for desert, we asked for cake with a candle and some other things. Our waitress brought out all the desert except for the cake with candle and then 5 min later came out with a candle. She forgot things throughout the night and seemed to be flustered when we would ask for things even though our table took up 1/3 of the dining room ( she shouldnt have had many other customers and we heard the other staff people talking about how they kept seeing us look around for her )When we left for the night I wanted to say something to the manager because it was more awefull that I can put into words so I casually said something to him ( nothing rude ) and as im walking out the door our waitress comes up to me and says we are the worst table she has EVER had. I took what she said to the manager and he made excuses ( the best being that I shouldnt expect to much from them becase its Bucktown and theyre casual) The food is awefull, my mom never made bad food like that, save yourself the trip and eat at the closest school cafeteria.

Cons: bad for big groups and anyone with a pallet

great brunch

by wackyjack

Silver cloud is great for those Sunday mornings when you are a mess from the night before and can?t wait to have a really fat day. It all starts off with a snazzy bloody mary that?s basically a meal in a glass. Then after a huge eggs benedict (with tatter totts yuuuum) and a side of mac and cheese or pancakes, depending on your mood, you are basically in a serious food coma. It's soooo good and totally worth the calories.

Pros: great bloody marys

ok at best

by kc312

I judge my experience primarily on the following; quality of the meal, service, wine list and ambiance/decor. The meal part they got all wrong. I ordered the breaded pork chop special that came with corn and mashed potatoes -- NOTHING was seasoned. Bland and flavorless. The 2 different glasses of wine I had were rather blah and uninspiring. The ambiance was alright and the one thing they got right was the service -- stellar. Overall, this is an alright if you're looking for an affordable meal in the Bucktown area.

Pros: close to el

Cons: bland food

My wife and her friends from St Paul visted Chicago this summer and have talked about the Silver Cloud ever since. When we visisted Chicago this month, she insisted we go back.

The food was very good, service was outstanding and the atmoshphere is really fun.

I am sure we will be back

Pros: great atmosphere, comfort food, great drinks

It was my first time out on the town. What a great place! They had smores. Great ambiance and great waitress. It had been about a month since my fiance had passed away, and this place was so upbeat I couldn't help but smile. Thanks Silver Cloud.

by pixy_stix

Silver Cloud is a nice place to hang out with friends when during the warm weather. The martinis are pretty good and the food is pretty good too. They serve tater-tots (mmmm)! The service is better than like restaurants. Not a special place, but a nice hangout.

Pros: Pretty good service, Good martinis, Outdoor seating

Cons: Loud indoors

the worst white trash food

by lokness

I don't understand how this restaurant gets so many good reviews and why it's always packed when I drive by. This was the worst food I've eaten in a long time. There's a big difference between "comfort food" and "nasty white trash food". The Shepard's Pie consisted almost entirely of greasy ground beef with a tiny dallop of fake mashed potatoes on top. The appetizer we ordered (can't remember what it was) left a big orange grease puddle in the bottom of the bowl and a huge hole in our stomachs. And the prices for such crap is damn near astronomical.....it should be served as a free buffet. The only redeeming quality is that the place is dark, but that's probably so you can't see exactly what it is you're eating.

Pros: dark, okay service

Cons: terrible food, no parking, crowded

Upbeat downhome

by MauraYork_Citysearch

Silver Cloud does a nice job of blending home-cooking and a bit of atmosphere. I ate there with four friends one recent Sunday night, and we all had a fine time, liked our entrees and felt more comfortable than if we had been at a greasy spoon or a low-fi chain. It's not Charlie Trotter's, but it doesn't pretend to be.
