I have been a very long time customer of Fannie May -- decades long customer. My complaint isn't about a specific store, rather, as the belong blogger indicated, the lack of consistent quality/freshness of the candy. At Valentines Day, I purchased 6 - l pound boxes of Trinidads - my favorite - gave half of boxes as gifts. In the 2 boxes I ate - there was an average of 1-3 stale Trinidads, i.e., cream center was so hard, that the yellow coating broke away from the cream center when I attempted to eat. Also, I've noticed that Pixies I've purchased on several occasions, including last Thanksgiving, as part of a hand-picked box, were not as fresh as fresh as the other candy or as fresh as Pixies should be. The suburban store where I purchased the Pixies admitted that they have noticed that they have been receiving candy - or been told to sell, Pixies not as fresh as usual too. When I contacted Fannie May via email, I did receive a call back; however, their solution was that I return the stale candy back to the store so they could analyze it. I explained that it wasn't all of each of the boxes I bought, that I'd given away almost half of the boxes and that it wasn't worth my trouble. The rep denied that Fannie May would intermingle stale candy with fresh; however, there can be no other reason to explain my experience. A small gift card to compensate me for the staleness of some the candy would have been sufficient. Going forward, I will be less likely to purchase Fannie Mays, especially to give as a gift as I wouldn't want to be embarrassed by recipient biting into a stale piece. Should be noted that price of Fannie Mays has doubled since being taken over by a new company

I was a long time customer of Fannie May but the past few years I've observed a steady decline in the quality and service. I have ordered online from their website www.fanniemay.com as well as bought candy form their shops in Chicago. Very inconsistent quality- some boxes the candies were fine, others contained stale candies. In particular their prized buttercreams have been "gritty" and not smooth. Sometimes the candy has the white "bloom" coating, or the bottoms are caved in from being old. Most upsetting have been the string of failures in service through their website. I have been disappointed numerous times with late deliveries, sent for holidays, items that mysteriously become sold out despite having ordered them and my credit card was charged. Also was very embarrassed with the condition of several very expensive gift towers I sent as gifts this past Christmas. The recipients reported the candy was disheveled and in poor condition. I sent an e-mail to Fannie May and no one responded. I posted the photos on my own blog too:

My recommendation is to skip Fannie May. Its a shame because they used to be a great company.

Fanny Mey is worth the stop if you are walking on Michigan Ave and have a sweet tooth. They have a wide range of items to choose from and the prices are low. I love the mint meltaways.

I buy boxes and give them to my staff during the summer. Great variety of chocolates to choose with a hometown feel.

I have always and still do love Fanny Mae candy. It's the best. However, that cheap, low-quality free 1# box of assorted chocolates that you get for purchasing spending $29 or more is the pits. I throw it out every time. It's so bad. I have made requests to either omit the free box from my shipment or replace it with anything, ie a minuscule 4-pc. box of normal chocolates, even a little bag of hard candy. They continually ignore my request. So when I get the free 1-# box, I keep throwing it in the trash. This tells me something about their lack of concern for keeping good customers (I spend a lot of cash there.). This is not a good thing.
