i've gone to this shop for a few months now and have spent close to 2 thousand in random parts / new toys / fuel.

the store itself is pretty cool. a moderate selection of what you might
need to repair your vehicle, if you have the same brands they stock.
call first if you need something.. because if you place an order for a part thats not in stock, it can take all month to get it.
if you call to check on the status of an order, they ALWAYS ask you if someone called already. you really get the impression a lot
of the employees in the store dont want to help you out.

i had a vehicle repaired at this store, brought it in and waited
3 weeks time to get it back. it was 2 hours of work that i was
billed for, and it took them 3 weeks to accomplish.

basically its a good place to pick up fuel and maybe some repair parts.
i would not really suggest going there for advice, because
they are just going to sell you on something that may not suit
your application. join a forum online for rc products and gain
knowledge that way.

this store is extremely over priced.
example 40 series moab tires, 45 at al's. 28 online.
thats a HUGE MARKUP for 2 tires.
not everything is that bad, but watch out.
i've been burned by this place more than i've actually
received genuine help and advice.

Even though I've moved away from scale models and train sets, I still like going to Al's. It's a solid hobby should with EXTREMELY knowledgable employees and a large stock of items. It's clear that the staff actually engage in the hobbies they sell, which is an important thing to have in a hobby shop. Where else are you gonna learn about the hobby, if you're not part of a club? That's right- a good hobby shop is the equivalent of years of experience.

If you are looking for parts or model planes, cars, trains, etc, this is a good source. I was looking for R/C cars and they had parts that I needed that other hobby shop didn't have in stock. The shop is small and clutters with stuff but they have a great selection. Parking is small but you should be able to find parking in the downtown Elmhurst area and walk. They have speciality items that most common hobby shops don't have. A great place to look if your into models of all sorts.

I could lose myself in this store forever! What a dream to an adult who loves to build model cars. Al's Hobby Shop is probably the biggest hobby shop in this area. They've got everything you need for hobbies like remote controlled cars and planes, electric trains, plastic models, and die cast cars. They have plenty of paint supplies for decorating all your stuff as well. I really like how helpful and knowledgeable the staff are. They can always point you in the right direction and give good suggestions.
