3 Stars: La sardine (by Mike C.)

The usual for French food, high prices and small portions. Still, not bad. If you like French food, I recommend. Maybe eat before hand though.

5 Stars: ...in response (by by rox at Citysearch)

Are you kidding me? The reviewer who claimed something was wrong with his wife's food has a serious problem with, um, logic...
One, he was not sick.
Two, a restaurant is liable if she made a complaint, which she apparently did not, as it is still open... and furthermore, food contamination and/or any bacterial problem lasts more than one night of discomfort...
Three, everything else was good, and it was December, January... even in February everyone was getting the flu. I don't mean to be all "new" about it but call it a "season" or something.
Last, the mgmt. seems to have addressed the problem in the same way a credit card is declined... i.e. we will look into our system, but maybe you are just, um, short.. gosh..
Either way, maybe she just needed a few minutes away from you... and/or you libido.
I've faked worse, so don't blame the restaurant.

4 Stars: Good food. Weird B-tender. (by by rmdo at Citysearch)

Soup was great. Steak was perfectly done. The sauce was ok. Dessert was ok. Wine was great. Coffee was good. Bartender would not break my twenty so that I could leave a few dollars in the coat-check box...go figure...I'll probably go back soon but I'll just avoid the weird bartender.

1 Stars: Great food. Until my wife got sick and threw up all night long... (by by dustingellman at Citysearch)

I love Le Bouchon (La Sardine's sister restauant) and have dined there for many years. My wife and I dined at La Sardine on Tuesday evening, December 11.

We had the following: Escargot, pea soup, grilled steak with house butter, grilled pike, Grand Marnier souffle, and apple tart.

We enjoyed our meal, and the service was excellent. However, within an hour, my wife felt ill to her stomach. She spent the majority of the evening throwing up.

Restaurant owner's response below:

I am so sorry that your wife became ill after dining at La Sardine. We
have 3 certified sanitation managers on staff and they were all present
on Tuesday. I want to stress that we are very careful about safe food
handling. While I received no other letters or calls, I am unsure of
which item was the culprit. I do appreciate your letter and I have
informed the chef.

4 Stars: Great rustic french cuisine (by by colinsilveira at Citysearch)

La Sardine serves some of the best French food in Chicago. The wine list is awesome and the service is exceptional. I had the bouillabaise which was delicious and had very fresh seafood. It went well with the bread and tasted just like you would be sitting near the Seine in Paris and having dinner. The ambience was great and it is definitely worth a second visit.

5 Stars: Nearly Perfect (by by davino60618 at Citysearch)

Best French Cuasine I have had in Chicago. Both the owner and executive Chef are wonderful hosts, and very personable

5 Stars: Absolutely wonderful (by by britgirl at Citysearch)

As an out of towner, I found this restaurant on CitySearch and decided that it looked perfect to celebrate my anniversary. I am so glad that we picked it. The experience from start to finish was amazing. The food was impeccable - delicious mussels, wonderful fish and pork and a fantastic chocolate soufflé to finish. The service was perfect, not rushed and very knowledgeable. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or those who just enjoy good food!

5 Stars: Stellar all around! (by by ekfoley at Citysearch)

I took my parents to La Sardine over the holidays and we were treated like royalty from start to finish... even wearing jeans! The food was delicious (yummy pomme frites) and the service even better. They have an excellent wine selection and the ambience is exceptional. My parents continue to rave about it to this day. My dad said the filet was the best he ever had.

5 Stars: A hidden gem (by by apple_jack at Citysearch)

La Sardine is a bit removed from the Randolph & Green nexus of high end and tragically hip restaurants, and I'm glad for that. I used to go to Le Bouchon often when I lived in Wicker Park four years ago, and now that I've moved into the West Loop I frequent La Sardine quite a bit. Unlike Le Bouchon, most of the waiters aren't French (or at least they were when I went there), so while they don't pronounce everything correctly they make up for that with a bit less attitude. The food is excellent (seafood is especially well done), the portions good sized, and the service is always at least fair. They have a nice price fixe lunch special as well. One negative that I keep bringing up with the staff is the lack of wines by the glass--only two whites and two reds.

5 Stars: as good as the french are ..... (by by vyieort at Citysearch)

amazing food. 1/2 bottles of wine on mondays, and a list of over 100 bottles. the salads are always spectacular and the subtlety of the flavors is perfect. if they have the french chease cake - get it. not like any cheese cake in america.
