Beware Beware! Sexual predators work at this club! Single women beware!

I went to Funky buddah lounge last night 1/24/2015 and I am waking up this morning feeling disgusting and violated, as I was sexually harassed by a staff member at this club.

Everytime I go to the club, all of the front door staff flirt to no end. One light skinned black guy at the front door, always trys to grab me to get a hug and suggests sexual things. I have been to this club about 3 times since January. but will never step foot in it again!

Last night 1/24/2015 I got to this club at 9:30pm , they lied and said anyone was in the club when I asked them if they were open. After I paid $20 to park at 9:30pm I walked into a virtually empty club, except for the staff.

Tonight there was some short white guy (Italian or ukranian) whom wears diamond (or cubic zirconia) earrings in his ear. Very short, (I am 5"2 and he is almost shorter than me in heels)
He is the shortest of all the white men who work at the club and wears his hair very short cut fade.

Went to the bathroom and realized my outfit (a body suit) had a somehow ripped right in the back by the butt! So I asked the coat check guy if he had a safety pin, he did not. SO then I am by the bar, and this short white man who pretends he runs the club starts to say hello. I tell him my situation and he suggests me staple the outfit. but I ask where we can possibly do this at because I would have to take off the item to staple it. (I should have just went home)

He says I can use his office in the basement of the club. So we go through the coat check down stairs and he says I can use his office and he will wait outside.... I should have known better because sure enough, about 1 minute into me changing out my cloths to staple them up real quick here he comes barging into the office claiming he needs to get something real quick. But keeps his eyes on my body, and starts complimenting me and walking towards me.

I told him to stay back I was almost done. I began to just put it back on anyways before he could get to me, but before I knew it her had his hands all over me, and un snapped my bra and began to feel me up. I picked my bra up and out it back on and I hurried up and put my body suit back on. He then began to proposition me for sex! telling me how hard he was. I told him to open the door and let me out because he had totally ruined my night.

He then began to get mad and tell me about how I turned him down a previous night when he was in his VIP section with a bunch of women "popping a bottle" I remember that night too, he came up and grabbed me and asked me to come with him , which I refused, and he went back to his table.

(OK FYI I am black, I like black men, I do not understand why this man thinks I would want to be waking around a black club with a 40 year old short white man. It would look like something else, that I have no desire to look like. so when I first saw him I was like ew, why would I want a 40 year old short white man when there is a club full of youthful 25-35 yr old black men and Hispanic whom are attractive)

I was waiting on a friend to show up, but I told them not to even worry about it because my night had been ruined by this predator. If you are a single female do NOT go to this club unless you have a man with you because the men whom work at this club have no respect for women what so ever!

I do not know if I can file a police report or anything, I will probably talk to some friends to decide what I am going to do! I will never ever be returning to this club and I hope the two main men who constantly harass women get fired!

Terrible place - would never go back there again. They played weird techno music with people dressed like MTV moon men...it was strange. Of course, everyone made a move to the "hip hop" area which quickly became way overcrowded as they people were definitely hip-hop heavy. Further, the bouncer to the hip-hop room pushed my girlfriend for no reason and kept giving me attitude when I told him to stop. Otherwise, the music was ridiculously loud and I could barely talk to any of my friends. Lastly, the drinks were watered down unless you asked for a "strong" one.

I would not recommend this place for any sort of party and will not be going back.

Pros: Didn't have to wait too long for the bathroom

Cons: Watery drinks, too crowded, too loud, terrible music, etc

Diverse crowd. Bomb music. Always poppin'. Great dance floor. This place is off the hook. BONUS: The bartenders are fantastic. We got a drink that was patron and Ty Ku liqueur. The bottle lights up. Legit.

Go here for a fun night.

Yah i have frequently come here on thursday nights, DRINK before you go in, overpriced alcohol for water down drinks. Never been there on the weekend, only on thursday, which plays hip hop reggae. Come with a large group of friends that likes to dance. THE door people act like youre going into a club that is for the elite famous which is also a downer.

I have been going to the Funky Buddha for about 4 months now. I must admit that if it wasnt for the security at the door making everyone in line feel comfortable and safe due to the line being long. I would have turned around and gone somewhere else. I think the gentlemans name was Bass. He was very very professional with making sure that the line moved swiftly and safely. I was very impressed with how well he handled the people in the VIP line. No matter what day of week I go. The staff is very friendly and courteous. The music is always BLAZING HOT!!! Fundky Buddha lounge is the place to be for a night out on the town!!! My personal opinion, The door staff is the first impression of a nightclub.....Funky Buddha's door staff is the BOMB!!!

i recently moved to chicago from atlanta and have been looking for a "go to" spot for the weekends....well, i have finally found it at the funky buddah lounge. i went for the first time this past saturday. i was apprehensive as i walked to the door because of the large line and was expecting attitude, however i was greeted very warmly and made to feel very comfortable. one door employee, i believe his name was bass, made it a point to make me feel welcomed and even invited me to come back. i really appreciated this because i am from the south and really don't get that warm feeling from too many people in chicago. my experience got even better as i went inside the club. the music was amazing, folk were beautiful, and i greatly enjoyed myself. i will mos def be back at the buddah next saturday....and hopefully i'll see that same cute door guy, bass :)

If you like hip-hop then Funky Buddha is your place to be, They have two rooms of music. The crowd is diverse which is welcoming. All the staff are great. I've been there on Thursdays, and the dj is playing house and older hip-hop in the VIP room which is open to everyone. A great time for all.

My best girlfriends and I went out to the Funky Buddha Lounge to celebrate and we had a wonderful night. The atmosphere was great and the DJ was awesome. We went on a Friday night and it was packed and welcoming. The crowd was diverse which is awesome. There is a cover charge unless you make a reservation and then it is free before 11. The one disappointment was the high drink prices. It is a great place to dance and have fun with friends.

Funky Buddha is so fun. I have the best time there. The music is awesome. Reasonable priced drinks, awesome service, and friendly patrons. Love It!! You have to give credit to a club that?s been in business since 1996 and still bringing in people, famous djs, and artists. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great time!

I was there on a Friday for a birthday party. I am a smoker (I know, currently socially unacceptable, but I am). I and part of the party went out for a cigarette. First the door man yelled at us, he even waved his finger in my face like I was a disciplined child. Then he told us that it would be the last time he let us out for the rest of the night. He said if we went out again we would have to pay to get back into the club (which I found to be ridiculous). On our way back in, he stepped into me pushing me into the girl taking money. I found this to be quite disturbing as I had done and said nothing to warrant this physical aggression. When I left one of the people in the group left at the same time. We had a cigarette together and a group of people came out for a cigarette. They had been outside at the same time as we were earlier and I asked them if they would have to pay to get back in. They told me the door man told them it wasn't a problem and they could come and go as they wanted. My problem with this is that they were of the same race as the door man. If they have a policy on allowing people in and out of the club, first it should be advertised, second it should be enforced equally. As you have probably guessed, I am not of the same race as the door man, and this seemed to be blatant discrimination. I've never been to a place where this type of behavior was accepted. Aside from the horrible treatment I received from the door man it was also clear that he wasn't enforcing the dress code equally. While we were in line he turned away a man (not of his own race, and not of my race either) for wearing gym shoes; although there were other people in the club wearing gym shoes. Keep in mind, the drinks are overpriced and the dance floor is so packed you can't even move let alone dance. What happened to fire codes? It's great when a club is bumpin, but packed to the edges isn't for me. If you decide to try this club, look at the door man, and drink ahead of time. GL

We had planned to go to The Funky Buddha ahead of time. We read quite a few adds stating that there was no cover charge before 11pm. Well, we got there at 10:15pm where we were 3rd in line. We stood in the cold watching the doorman take bribes and phone numbers and letting others in ahead of us. Finally he asked to see our ID's and said "that will be $20 each." Yea, it was 11:05. He was extremely rude. It was obvious that his "doorman" status made him feel like he was so much better than the costomers waiting in line. I would not recomend this place to anyone.

I went there with my friends on a Saturday night for my birthday and tried to call before hand to confirm the free cover before 11pm but there is no information on the message, so I printed out the citysearch coupons and brought them along just in case. We got there at 10:15 and the bouncer was extremely rude and told us it was $20 each, even though citysearch says it is $10 for women. I told the bouncer about citysearch and he said "a lot of websites advertise us without permission." I told him that I was going to post negative feedback about his comments on citysearch and he said he didn't like my attitude and didn't appreciate me threatening him (I'm a 5 foot tall woman mind you) but finally let us in with no cover. The dance floor was dead early on and the DJ gave my friend a major attitude when she tried to make a request. On the plus side the crowd did pick up later in the night and the dance floor got full. The music started out bad with slow hip hop songs but the DJ did start playing better hits later in the night. If do decide to go to this place call ahead to get on the guest list for free cover, but I think there are better places you can go on a Saturday night.

Not a bad place, however, sometimes it is super fun, and other times it's just not. I found that Saturday nights are the best time to go, however, I've been on Saturdays when it was just dead. The drinks are good and normally priced for a Chicago night club (I'm from Indianapolis-so everything in the Chi is expensive to me). The bartenders are friendly, but the people at the door can be rude at times--but, hey, you're not there to party with them--hand them your money and be about your way. The DJ is cool, and the dance floor is average. It does get crowded at times, so if you don't like the cowd stay out of the club!!! The lines can get really long if there is a special event going on, so arrive early, and there are a nice amount of couches around the place, but, once again, get there early because they can fill up on a busy night.

If you are looking for a place with a younger crowd (under 25), this is the place for you. They have a lot of celebrities frequenting the VIP lounge. They hold poetry slams and fundraising events during the week. But the crowds suddenly appear after 11pm on a Saturday. The music is urban and latin hip hop. The dance floor is tiny, but you can still squeeze onto it when the mood hits you. If you arrive before 9:30pm, you can usually get in without paying a cover charge. It is a lively crowd if you are looking for a funky beat.

PROS: Funky music
CONS: Caters to under 25 crowd

We went to FBL for My roomate's 21st. We heard great things about it and, being a head conceirge at a very prestigious hotel, I was sending a lot of guests there. We got the cover charge waived, and when we got in the place was crowded, there was no seating, the dance floor was small and it was overall just awkward. The worst part was the price of the drinks. I had one vodka tonic and 4 shots and my tab was $63.00!! NOT WORTH IT!! It didn't help the bartendar was a total crab. I will say she never made us wait long for a drink. We will not be going back and I will no longer be sending my guests there!!

I had a birthday party here and the staff were very accomodating, from getting us a table to comping cover for all the people in my party (nearly 40). The dance floor is kinda small.. but the music is great. They usually play hip hop and the DJs actually know what they're doing, which is hard to say for a lot of places in the area.

I am usually sketched-out by $20 covers and "trendy" dress codes. Funky Buddha is actually a great club. By all means, come before 10PM when they waive cover and there is no line!! The incense is at just the right level, and the Therevada Buddhist decoration is superb. (Men who know Buddhist iconography will appreciate the giant lotus wall-paintings.) The acoustics are excellent, such that one can actually have a conversation when not on the dance floor (imagine that!) The doormen and barmaids are very friendly and unpretentious. Bar charges are a buck or two more per drink than average, but if you don't pay cover, you can afford a few more-expensive drinks.

DO not book this place for a party. We were so excited to come here for a birthday party, until we got there. NOt only was the bartender wasted by 10,( I personally witnessed him do 7 shots) he was a complete jerk. Our cover was 35 for U call its, which wouldnt have been bad, except they were out of anything we asked for. Management was not helpful and tried to cut our time 1 hr short, because of their mess up. This place is horrible, the staff is rude and not helpful, and completly unprofessional. Dont waste your time!!!!!!

The music was awesome. I felt very comfortable there and had a great time. Every staff member there was very friendly. The only downsides are the expensive cover and drink prices.

Friends wanted to go and we were a bit surprised with the $10 cover for a Monday. The place is small and wasn't very happening. The drinks weren't that great. The bar staff was nice. Started to pick up a bit later on, but dance floor is very small. Music was good. Not enough space to sit and bar was a bit crowded. The mix of people there seems unusual. Probably won't go back.

Visiting from Minneapolis, we were looking for a hot dance club and The Funky Buddah was supposed to be THE place to go. Why? It was absolutely nothing special and we eventually got bored and left around midnight. I have no idea why they even charge a cover to get in. Small place and nothing going on. Pretty good music, but good luck trying to dance on that tiny dance floor. If you're looking for a glam club, don't go here. Very disappointing.

Visiting the Funky Buddha Lounge for the first time, I did not know to expect an hour wait outside the door. It was frustrating to watch other less attractive but ballsy people shove their way to the front of the line to get in. Once we were in, the bartenders were very attentive and the music was great. The dance floor is small. Steep cover charge for what's inside.

Funky Buddha hosts the most diverse crowd I have ever seen in a nightclub. The crowd is so cool and everyone is there to have a great time, not to be 'seen'. Thursday nights are packed, but worth it. The hip-hop is awesome! They play a good mix of hits and underground tracks. If you are looking for a club that isn't packed with swingers and muscle-heads, check out Funky Buddha.

The Buddha Lounge was the first bar/club I attended in Chicago. I had an extraordinary time. The music is unbelievable. The vibe and atmosphere are perfect for a night of great dancing. Althought the drinks are a little, or a lot!! on the pricy side, they give you a guaranteed enjoyabe buzz. I go back to the lounge every opportunity I get. Needless to say I have not experienced anything like it..

The lounge definitely has a diverse crowd. Went to the lounge sometime last spring. The music was cool the hip-pop, reggae, house, and trance mix was really smooth. The bartenders are good looking. One of the bartenders hooked me up with some free shots. If you are looking for somewhere to kick it and enjoy the music this is the place to go. The only disadvantage of the lounge is that is a little compact.

I was in Chicago March02 for business and looking for somewhere to meet people and do some dancing. A lady at the hotel recommended Funky Buddha Lounge. I took the train near my hotel down to Grand ext. The dance music was GREAT!. The atmosphere you can't describe unless you have been to the Funky Budda. It is a club where you can actually meet people that can dance, and party with. So many different types of people at the FB that I had the opportunity to dance with and talk to. No other city has a dance club like this. I feel lucky to live only 5 hours away. WARNING: if you can't dance or just want to sit and talk and watch people STAY AWAY. This Funky Buddha is for people looking to meet different types of individuals, a trendy, romantic, high energy dance club.

I have only been to the Buddha Lounge one time and I didn't like it at all. It was way too crowded, the drinks were overpriced and weak, and the bar tenders were rude. Maybe it was just a bad night. I have heard some really good things about this bar. Better luck next time?

The funky budha club was okay, the drinks are over priced and this is definitely not the spot to go to if your a single african american female. The black guys there are not there to meet sisters just women of other ethnicity. But if your going somewhere to just dance then it's okay for that.

Great for dancing if you don't mind a cover. The intimacy created by the dim lights and small dance floor made it a great place for dancing. Stay away from mixed drinks-not much alcohol for the steep price. Stick to the beer if you are looking for a buzz.

I read the reviews and found this night club disappointing. The drinks were good, and the air quality was better than most small night clubs.

But the music was disappointing -- cliche dance club type stuff.

The atmosphere-- lacked energy. Very laid back, tring to be hip, but not really hip.

I admit, I'm comparing it to clubs in New York, London, and Paris. In order to make this club really happening, it needs to change something, to attract a more sophisticated crowd.

Diverse, stylish crowd and funky deco make this the place to be. But, nothing is a better reason to go here than the music. The DJs mix an eclectic and addicting selection that your body won't resist.

Over the past few years places have come with flashy grand openings, and faded into obscurity then to dim door closings. Through all of that, this place - Funky Buddha has remained my favorite in the city.

I wish to God the cover were not always so steep, but every part of the place is cool without having to try or scream for attention. Good service, great drinks, fantastic music.
