***DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! *** I came here with my beautiful and energetic 8 year old dog. The admitting vet said: wow you wouldn't even know she's sick. Within days of allowing Dr. Seth Ghantous to 'treat' her, however, my magnificent girl was dead. Dr.Ghantous's 'treatment' caused my beautiful dog to hemmorhage and die. She had NO history of health problems.

Dr. Seth Ghantous had no treatment plan and allowed my dog to hemorrhage for 3 full days before he took any action whatsoever. By then it was too late. She was far too weak to recover and died of cardiac arrest. Immediately following her 'alleged' blood transfusion all communication from Dr.Ghantous ended. No phone calls. No status on my dog. Nothing. I never spoke to Dr. Seth Ghantous again although I was physically in the ICU that night and 3x the next day for HOURS.He knew I was there. But I was told he had "other appointments". Apparently he knew he killed my dog and was too cowardly to face me.

Realizing my dog was dying I tried to get her discharged so I could bring her home so she could be surrounded by the family who cherished her. I tried to talk to the vet in the ICU to get her released. The tech (Kristen) said she would "do her best". Yet, the vet onsite in the ICU (Baruch Caballero) would not talk to me despite the fact I was in the ICU with my dog for 2 HOURS and was literally 10 feet away from him. Unable to get her discharged, I wanted to stay with her that night. The tech (Kristen) forced me to leave. 4 hours later my dog was dead.

They would not release my dog into my care nor would they let me stay with her. Instead she died alone under horrific conditions instead of at home surrounded by the immense love of her family. That's right. They held my dying dog hostage where she died of the floor of the ICU and they would not allow me to stay with her.

Unethical. Unconscionable. Despicable.

Do NOT come here. My dog didn't die from liver issues (the reason I brought her in). My dog died from cardiac arrest for the reasons cited above.Your pet's life is at stake! Be sure to check out their other legitimate 1 STAR REVIEWS on Google Plus. You've been warned.

BEWARE: They also execute a convoluted estimating process.Review every detail of your charges to be sure they did what you've been charged for.

These people are caring and understanding. As much as I didn't want to be there, the staff and dr's made the visit as tolerable as possible. I don't know what people expect....that your vet fall apart like you do when your pet is sick. It's their job to keep a calm rational head. Some of these reviews are just plain stupid and impossible.\n\nI had to bring in my sick cat on a Friday night. It was possibly the worst 3.5 hours of my life. These people at the Vet emergency did whatever they could to make my visit as easy on me as possible. We came in and due to our emergency they rushed us in past everyone's ""emergency Dog at Christmas chocolates"" and provided a spot on assessment of our situation. They were sensitive and provided all the information necessary to make our decision. They didn't push us in either direction and only let us know in a calm manner what our options were.\n\nWe had to make the worst decision possible...to put the cat down (after 15+ years of healthy activity). They didn't rush us or make us feel uncomfortable and if anything, he doctor made us feel better about our decision. It was the right thing to do. So many people question if they are doing the right thing, they want to, but as pet parents we are often blinded by our need to hold on. Our Dr. comforted us and was kind during the entire ordeal. He carefully explained our test results and there was no other option.\n\nSo $650 later and one less cat, I can still give a positive review. Four stars because I would have liked them to sweep the floors in between visits. I didn't like that my dying cat who didn't want to be held was crawling on the floor with other animals fur all over it. But that's so minor compared to the wonderful care they did provide.

I have bought my dogs into Chicago Emergency Vets in the past. they have a good staff and are caring and helpful even over the phone. \nAny emergency vet is going to be pricey, I have been to 3 different emergency vets in the city and suburbs over the years, these are vet specialists and emergency vets have to make life and death decisions, you get what you pay for. If you have an older pet get pet insurance, you will need it eventually, and its easier to spend 35-60 a month than a lot more at one shot.\nIf you have a pet emergency in the northside of the city this is the place you should come.

Pros: give you some advice on phone

My cat is a playful, loving, purring, genorous little guy. \r\nLast weekend I noticed him sleeping in a weird place in the closet totally lethargic and unable to move. It freaked me out, since it was 11 pm on a Sat. night , and I didnt know what to do. My intuition told me that he was very sick. When I tried to move him, he cried out in pain. I quickly went to the computer and started doing research. We ended up taking him there around 1 am. He had a blocked urethra and his bladder was and he couldnt release it. The Dr's said if I hadn't of brought him in, his bladder would have burst and he would have died.\r\n\r\nThe techs and Drs here were amazing. He was released a few days later and I had to bring him somewhere else. He is home now and doing better but still has symptoms. he is on meds and a special diet now. He is playing, eating, drinking, purring etc. I guess I am just a concerned mom, but I have called them every night since then asking questions and sometimes crying on the phone. The staff is GReAT! Very understanding and they will take your questions to the DR. and come back with a reply.\r\n\r\nEmergency Rooms are expensive, for humans and animals, but these people really showed that they cared, even though I had little money. They took good care of my baby when he was there, and are happy to answer questions when I call. \r\n\r\n5 stars.

Not only did the veterinary staff refuse to indicate the pricing over the phone, they indicated that they could choose to hold the animal if I were to bring my animal for examination and if I refused to allow the animal to be treated (at my expense) it could constitute animal cruelty and I would be reported to authorities. Talk about having someone over a barrel. These people are vicious. Avoid at ALL costs. They appear to be far more concerned about getting paid than helping your animal.

Chicago Vet Emergency was recommended by out stellar vet (RV Animal Hospital) for our dogs and they've been excellent. They are always willing to go the extra mile, will tell you what tests are really necessary or "suggested" and the staff is nothing less than superb. No wonder they are rated one of the best ER Vets in Chicago.

our new pup from a shelter got sick on a Sunday morning. with nowhere else to go we found CVES. we found the level and thoughness of the staff to be great. far better than the firsr vet we went to on tuesday, and said was ok again on Friday(maybe just ate something bad!)...missed pneumonia! if it wasn't for CVES, our little pup, may not be around. the staff was great! explained everything through, patient and understanding, we even called in to check up after hours. would recommend to anyone.

I have lost 2 cats to this place. Yes both of them were very sick but something is very wrong with this clinic. The vibe given off is that of a PETA pyschos. They wanted to put both of our cats to sleep without a real review of what the problems ever were. Both times we took them there they jumped around about the prognosis and still didnt get it right. They didnt want to run full blood test even though we were willing to pay for it. It felt like more laziness then anything else. I will not take any other animals back there. Most of the near by clinics wont even recommend this clinic, they suggest that you head out to the near by burbs.

There is no warm and caring feeling from this clinic and dont suggest that you take you're animal there. When our first cat passed, she was 23yrs old, there was confusion about our cat's ashes and it wasnt till after a lot of bitching that they would even listen to us. They came out and admitted they lied to us because they were scared they were not going to receive the rest of the payment. The only reason we went back this week is because they are 5blocks away other wise we would have gone the 2hrs in traffic to another clinic. We will never go back there again.

I wouldn't recommend this place it's not the best at its quality in service. Although, the DVM are knowledgable in what they are doing, overall staff is poor. Unfortunately, this is the only pet hospital open after hours and on weekends in the city. If you could wait to take your pet to it's normal vet then it's worth your time and money.

The staff is so RUDE and unwelcoming. Customer service could not be worse. I know it's the only place to go afterhours in the city, but someone should open up another one. It is simply ridiculous how rude they were to me when I took my pet there. Never again. Thank goodness my daytime vet is the best!

As a lifelong pet owner in Chicago, I am pretty familiar with this hospital. Emergencies never happen during regular hours, and its during emergencies that you begin to appreciate expert service and a state of the art facility. The staff at Chicago Veterinary Emergency are unique in that they probably see the worst of emergency cases, but they are never cold. In fact, they are quite the opposite. Diagnosis and treatment are amazingly fast and accurate as they have their own lab services on site (something that usually takes a day or two at my regular veterinary clinic). \n\nIm very grateful that we have access to such a great emergency hospital. The extra cost for using this premium service is completely worth it and I didnt find it to be much more than going to my regular vet. Im only sorry that this hospital isnt available for my regular services.

One of the few places with quality emergency services for pets that I'm familiar with. I found out about this place when my neighbor's cat need immediate care on a holiday. They're very caring, very qualified, personnel. In addition to their late hours, they're open evenings, weekends, and holidays. Why do most emergencies seem to happen on holidays? Well, they're here if anything does happen and they're very good.
